We bought this Econogrow mh light a couple days ago and put it up. So far we really like it but it's pretty heavy and the side with the internal ballast took TWO yoyos to hold that side up correctly.
The heat is pretty much nil unless you actually touch the reflector itself. The seedlings LOVE it so far.

Well dogs aside horses are a LOT along the same line (just nineteen times bigger and more stupid) ....you get on a horse believe me you are TEACHING it SOMETHING....either good or bad and I'm sure dogs are the same way....the interaction is there no matter what.
I HAVE seen my share of "horse whisperers" in action and they are indeed as impressive as they seem......they'll have those horses dancing around on one foot with one quiet word...and again....never a true hand raised. The only time this is suspended is if the horse actually tries to hurt you (malicously) then kick the shit out of him. If you can that is, lol.
These new styles of training ARE the wave of the future....they WORK. And they are much more healthy for both trainer AND trainee then the styles you and I were raised with. They need to go through a generation or so to be imprinted but I for one am THRILLED to see the changes coming in this field.....even if I couldn't do it myself if my life DEPENDED on it with either a dog OR a horse.

Stealth....clarification.....
the 400w will run either the mh bulb OR the hps bulb at one time....you have to switch them back and forth.....400w at once only. That's the way I understand it.....are you thinking something else?

Aw yes, the ol' 2 yoyo technique. To be outdone only by the 3 hot wheels set up.
I've got to know why you went with HID for seedlings instead of something a little less... drastic, like fluorescent. I've found that my seedlings don't like HID light unless it's a mile away. Also is that plexiglas around them or what? Is that to help keep the warmth and humidity in?
TEST LAUNCH-Operation Redwood Tree
Is that plexiglas around them against the weed eating killer cats??
TEST LAUNCH-Operation Redwood Tree
Ding! We have a winnner....Zeb! We've lost two seedlings to those bastards and we're sick of it! :wtf:
TEST LAUNCH-Operation Redwood Tree
Opie I know exactly what you mean.....both about the hot wheels AND the HID. :D
We WERE using some flouros but they just don't have the footprint we want. I thought the 400 would be easy on the seedlings but it wasn't as much as I had hoped. The 250 seems juuuust right.

i could get a switchable set and use a 250mh and a 400hps yeah? if its strong enough for the 400....

Your asking a different q now......I'm pretty sure I read something about not interchanging different sized ballasts/bulbs but I'm not 100% positive.
Stealth if you're going to start a fair amount of plants you most likely WOULD want the 400 vs 250.....when you think about it a 2' x 2' area really isn't very big.....while it works for us remember we've only got 4 plants going under it at any one time maximum.

Sorry, no. New technology is coming out all the time, but as far as I know your ballast must still match your bulb wattage.
