Okay... well if we want to self-destruct over whether a BAND who doesn't even know we exist on the planet is good... I won't stand in the way.

Pink Floyd is the best band that ever existed and will ever exist. Its a Plant you are outvoted by millions of fans. They are loved because they are amazing, its a shame you can't see that. Listen again to The Division Bell, Obscured by clouds, Atom heart mother, The final cut, More.. Are you telling me you don't like Shine on you crazy diamond or Echoes?
Most over rated band - The kaiser cheifs
My band 3 Headed Cock. Everyone who hears us hails us as the second coming of Barnabus, but I think were waaaaay overrated.
Oh, but there are so MANY.
The Beatles come to mind. But that's excusable - it was novel and people liked it. It was a new age.
How about Milli Vanilli?
:)
Oh, I know jazz ain't dead, I'm a trumpet player. It's just that commercial music now has lost the thrill of making exciting and bold music, and now bands just chase the dollar. St. Germain did reassure me that jazz is still alive and kicking, and progressing forward. Check our their album Tourist for starters.
I was a music production major and was so disheartened because that was all they preached, "music is a business, we're just trying to get paid like the rest blah blah blah." Business law just made me cry.
Personally I think that because of the limitations of Western music, i.e. the chords and changes used, that music is becoming watered down and repetitive. Ever find yourself where you recognize the bassline of a song? That's my point. After one hundred years of modern music every chord has been played, every chord progression thought up, every rhythm created. Music needs a shake up, a new idea, a spin on what we accept as music. As much as I despise it, John Cage's works could be inspirational to the future. If you're unfamiliar with him, his most famous piece is 4'33". Good luck with that one.
"The first question I ask myself when something doesn't seem to be beautiful is why do I think it's not beautiful. And very shortly you discover that there is no reason."
-Cage
Weird shit, but a brilliant and eloquent man.

You know those velvet paintings that show him with a tear running down his cheek? I always wondered if it wasn't SWEAT... ewwQuote:

Some people can write great songs, but don't sound good when playing them. Are they musicians?
I guess Robert Plant was not a musician, since he mostly sang and only played a bit of harmonica here and there.
Oh, and that probably was sweat mixed in with a bit of tears.;)
A vocalist is indeed a musician, but his vocal talent wasn't nearly on par with the hype that followed him.
Robert Plant had extraordinary vocal talent and deserved every bit of the respect given him.
Here's a question for the music buffs... how many of Elvis' songs were actually written by Elvis? :D
Donno^
But jazz in its true form is as pure as blues in its true form. They are both of the soul. Or at least should be. Its hit or miss with jazz and blues musicians...if theyve got the soul they've got blues, if they just IMMITATE jazz and blues then its gonna sound completely fraudulent. A completely fake work of nothingness. a meaningless composition. you got to have the flow...you gotta find the place where the music makes itself you are just the instrument that plays the instrument. Stevie Ray Vaughan had it.
