A lot of you guys listen to nothing but shit rap. Snoop Doggs first album is probably my favorite rap album of all time, same with Dr. Dre's "The Chronic" then there is Wu-Tang Clan, Nas, 2Pac, NWA, and you cant leave out Cypress Hill if you like to listen to music while high. The DOC is the most underrated rapper of all time and if you haven’t heard of MF Doom yet then you need to. Public Enemy is another great group. Rage Against the Machine is more rock than rap, but Zach de la Rocha’s lyrics are fuckin ill. Rakim is the best rapper of all time followed Ice Cube. I hate Biggie but I still give him his props. lil wayne has to be one of the best examples about how you can have zero talent and still make it in todays world of rap. Rap died with 2Pac. When he went down the quality of rap music has been falling well below the six-foot deep mark. fat joe, pall wall, nelly, game, 50 cent are not rappers and bring shame to the music. This is why strictly rock people are laughin their asses off at people who like rap. The beats suck and the lyrics are even worse and if you think that todays rappers are better in anyway over the ones in the past then you have no idea on what rap music is. I’ve been saying it before Nas made his album about it, hip hop is dead.
Big L, quasimoto, gang starr, del, Talib Kweli, Peanut butter Wolf, Madlib, DEVIN THE DUDE- check him out hes sick
Edit: forgot the legend DJ Screw
mf doom's overrated as fuck
his production is on point tho

Thats all the shitty rap is, studio produced garbage that trys to mimick real rap music to make money.
his production is great have u heard: there she goes?Quote:

Man i hate it when people argue about what music is better, or what music someone should listen to. It's pointless, you'll never be able to convice someone out of liking a group, song, or band that they really like. Not to mension it's just stupid and lame to do so. For someone who says that everyone else only listen's to "shit rap" you listen to pretty mainstream music. I'd like to see a really original hip-hop artist put up there so i can really judge your knowlegde.
Personally, i don't really listen to hip hop, so i'm really not in a possition to tell someone what they can and cannot argue about. But I still think it's stupid to say that artists who have sold millions of records are a part of "shit rap".
That being said, the few amount of hip-hop songs that i like include:
Grits - Ooh Ahh
Scarface - My block
Geto Boys - G code
People Under the stairs - Acid Rain drops
And i like alot of Hilltop Hoods
That's just my input
underground: imortal tech.
oldies: pac, biggie, dre
new 1z kinda suck, all bout gurls and shit, but eminem, akon, yukmouth, the gamee, lil wayne, mobb deep, raptile, chingy, luda - bluberry yum yum, luniez - i got 5 on it LOL sick ass song ... list goes on
huge hiphop head
aesop rock, cunninlynguists, sage francis, little brother, ill bill to name a few.
First off, the word 'mainstream' can be put to death, because it is an irrelevant term. The most common example people on this board use is 50 Cent...well, I'm not sticking up for 50, I don't like him that much anymore...but he was the king of the underground 4-5 years ago. People look past that fact...
Anyway, my favorite artists consist of the like of Jigga, Eminem, Nas, BIG, Jadakiss, Tupac, Big L, Snoop, Dre, Method Man (I like Wu, but Meth is my man), Redman, Game, Styles P, Lloyd Banks, Big Pun, Talib, Common, NWA, Outkast, D12, Scarface, old 50, Bone Thugs, LOX, Killa, DMX, Rakim, KRS, AZ, Gangstarr, Akrobatik, Mr. Lif, Esoteric, old Ice Cube, Kanye, some Luda, some Wayne, some Mobb, Obie Trice, Run DMC...to name a few.
Anyone saying underground rappers are better than any of these artists is naive. Yes, most of those guys are pretty 'lyrical', but half that shit doesn't make sense, they just put words together in a way that sounds good. As far as production, how can a beat made in someone's basement sound better than a Just Blaze or Kanye track...it doesn't, not even close. Commercial and mainstream terms are irrelevant terms...Jay for example...has some commercial songs...but 90% of his material is not.
It must be understood, the term 'selling out' is irrelevant as well...these people do this for a CAREER...yes they love the trade, but they also want to make a financial living doing it. So, sometimes you have to make some business moves to further your CAREER...it's being smart...not selling out.
Mac is so fucking right! These artists are just trying to make a living, it's not "selling out". These guys have to put food on their plates, pay the bills, put their kids through school and all the other shit normal people have to pay for.
They're trying to better their own lives by doing something they love with a smart business sense, you can't hate on them for that.
By the way, i listen to game, nas, lupe, dre, tupac, biggie, bone thugs, dmx, juelz santana, three 6 mafia, jay, Cypriss Hil, ice cube, snoop, NWA, Wutang Clan, Public Enemy, Run DMC, and lots more.
peace
WoW, didnâ??t know Americans listened to hilltop hoods. Thatâ??s awesome!  :thumbsup:Quote:
