Operation Northwoods, or Northwoods, was a 1962 plan to generate U.S. public support for military action against the Cuban government of Fidel Castro, as part of the U.S. government's Operation Mongoose anti-Castro initiative. The plan, which was not implemented, called for various false flag actions, including simulated or real state-sponsored acts of terrorism (such as hijacked planes) on U.S. and Cuban soil. The plan was proposed by senior U.S. Department of Defense leaders, including the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Lyman Louis Lemnitzer

The main proposal was presented in a document entitled "Justification for US Military Intervention in Cuba (TS)," a collection of draft memoranda written by the Department of Defense (DoD) and the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) representative to the Caribbean Survey Group.[1] (The parenthetical "TS" in the title of the document is an initialism for "Top Secret.") The document was presented by the Joint Chiefs of Staff to Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara on March 13 with one paragraph approved, as a preliminary submission for planning purposes.

The previously secret document was originally made public on November 18, 1997 by the John F. Kennedy Assassination Records Review Board, a U.S. federal agency overseeing the release of government records related to John F. Kennedy's assassination.[2][3][4][5][6] A total of about 1500 pages of once-secret military records covering 1962 to 1964 were concomitantly declassified by said Review Board.

"Appendix to Enclosure A" and "Annex to Appendix to Enclosure A" of the Northwoods document were first published online by the National Security Archive on November 6, 1998 in a joint venture with CNN as part of CNN's 1998 Cold War television documentary series[7][8]â??specifically, as a documentation supplement to "Episode 10: Cuba," which aired on November 29, 1998.[9][10] "Annex to Appendix to Enclosure A" is the section of the document which contains the proposals to stage terrorist attacks.

The Northwoods document was published online in a more complete form (i.e., including cover memoranda) by the National Security Archive on April 30, 2001.[11]

In response to a request for pretexts for military intervention by the Chief of Operations of the Cuba Project, Brig. Gen. Edward Lansdale, the document lists methods (with, in some cases, outlined plans) the authors believed would garner public and international support for U.S. military intervention in Cuba. These are staged attacks purporting to be of Cuban origin, with a number of them having real casualties. Central to the plan was the use of "friendly Cubans"â??Cuban exiles seeking to oust Fidel Castro.

The proposals included:

Starting rumors about Cuba by using clandestine radios.
Staging mock attacks, sabotages and riots at Guantanamo Bay and blaming it on Cuban forces.
Firebombing and sinking an American ship at the Guantanamo Bay American military baseâ??reminiscent of the USS Maine incident at Havana in 1898, which started the Spanish-American Warâ??or destroy American aircraft and blame it on Cuban forces. (The document's first suggestion regarding the sinking of a U.S. ship is to blow up a manned ship and hence would result in U.S. Navy members being killed, with a secondary suggestion of possibly using an unmanned ship and fake funerals instead.)
"Harassment of civil air, attacks on surface shipping and destruction of US military drone aircraft by MIG type [sic] planes would be useful as complementary actions."
Destroying an unmanned drone masquerading as a commercial aircraft supposedly full of "college students off on a holiday". This proposal was the one supported by the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Staging a "terror campaign", including the "real or simulated" sinking of Cuban refugees:
We could develop a Communist Cuban terror campaign in the Miami area, in other Florida cities and even in Washington. The terror campaign could be pointed at refugees seeking haven in the United States. We could sink a boatload of Cubans enroute [sic] to Florida (real or simulated). We could foster attempts on lives of Cuban refugees in the United States even to the extent of wounding in instances to be widely publicized. Exploding a few plastic bombs in carefully chosen spots, the arrest of Cuban agents and the release of prepared documents substantiating Cuban involvement, also would be helpful in projecting the idea of an irresponsible government.

Burning crops by dropping incendiary devices in Haiti, the Dominican Republic or elsewhere.
Journalist James Bamford summarized Operation Northwoods in his April 24, 2001 book Body of Secrets thusly:

Operation Northwoods, which had the written approval of the Chairman and every member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, called for innocent people to be shot on American streets; for boats carrying refugees fleeing Cuba to be sunk on the high seas; for a wave of violent terrorism to be launched in Washington, D.C., Miami, and elsewhere. People would be framed for bombings they did not commit; planes would be hijacked. Using phony evidence, all of it would be blamed on Castro, thus giving Lemnitzer and his cabal the excuse, as well as the public and international backing, they needed to launch their war

First off, don't always except Wikipida as fact. Its only as good as the people who contribute to it. You being a conspiracy person should have read about Microsoft paying people to alter data on there.

Few things stick out in this one.. The fact that even the Attorney General at the time does not believe the government would be able to hide such a task from the American people. And the very last line "all efforts should be made to develop new and imaginative approaches to the possibility of removing the Castro regime"

N E W Y O R K, May 1, 2001 In the early 1960s, America's top military leaders reportedly drafted plans to kill innocent people and commit acts of terrorism in U.S. cities to create public support for a war against Cuba.

Code named Operation Northwoods, the plans reportedly included the possible assassination of Cuban émigrés, sinking boats of Cuban refugees on the high seas, hijacking planes, blowing up a U.S. ship, and even orchestrating violent terrorism in U.S. cities.

The plans were developed as ways to trick the American public and the international community into supporting a war to oust Cuba's then new leader, communist Fidel Castro.


America's top military brass even contemplated causing U.S. military casualties, writing: "We could blow up a U.S. ship in Guantanamo Bay and blame Cuba," and, "casualty lists in U.S. newspapers would cause a helpful wave of national indignation."

Details of the plans are described in Body of Secrets (Doubleday), a new book by investigative reporter James Bamford about the history of America's largest spy agency, the National Security Agency. However, the plans were not connected to the agency, he notes.


The plans had the written approval of all of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and were presented to President Kennedy's defense secretary, Robert McNamara, in March 1962. But they apparently were rejected by the civilian leadership and have gone undisclosed for nearly 40 years.

"These were Joint Chiefs of Staff documents. The reason these were held secret for so long is the Joint Chiefs never wanted to give these up because they were so embarrassing," Bamford told ABCNEWS.com.

"The whole point of a democracy is to have leaders responding to the public will, and here this is the complete reverse, the military trying to trick the American people into a war that they want but that nobody else wants."

I don't care if it comes from CNN, Fox, Prisonplanet. As long as it states the facts and can backup its claims with evidence. You wouldn't want to be convicted in court based solely on theoretical evidence? What you and the others who follow this cult is just that. You expect us to convict our government based only on stuff that you yourself couldn't be tried on in court. One problem with people like Mr.AJ is that his stories are based on commentary, his perception of the truth. Just like Catholics and Christians both follow the bible, each has there own interpretations of it. This allows Mr.AJ to selectively pick between truth and fiction to make up a theory. And its not just limited to him... Bill O'rielly, Anderson Cooper, Glenn Beck are all guilty of it too.. There news is based off there believes on how something went down. Commentary = no real accountability, and thats all these stories are. Its almost like whispering in a person ear who has depression to "cut yourself". Thoughts are planted in peoples heads with very little or no evidence to real facts only opinions and opinions of opinions.

It is rare that any one story will post the truth on anything. However when you make claims that our government is plotting against its own people thats some serious claim you got there. You better be stating facts, not commentary. Most of us could care less how one person thinks it happened.

When you talk about CIA operations that are now declassified your best bet is to post the real deal hard facts. Why? Because anyone with a brain should not take such claims at there word. Go look up the actual declassified reports and READ them.. You like to bring up that they where gonna shoot down aircraft, but what you always leave out is that the aircraft was to be a drone. And 9/11 conspiracies have been debunked over and over with actual facts. Yet you choose not to pay any attention to them because it goes against your beliefs/religion.. Its not only been done by the government but also by many independent investigations, and you always come up with the same story to refute a cross examination regardless.

I'm not gonna sit here and say the government didn't dot every "I" and cross every "t". Sure mistakes where made in it, but a mistake is not an admission of guilt. Whatever I put up that refutes your conspiracy claims you just ignore. I put the actual Northwoods and Mongoose reports up. If you goto any Alex Jones site he mentions them in ways that are not true because whatever information he got about those subjects he got from the same reports I showed you. You need to put 2 + 2 together. Maybe I can't prove our government correct, but i've put more then enough up to prove conspiracy's are even more absurd. Pre 9/11 NORAD's only role was to protect American soil from foreign attacks. And after the cold war ended, took heavy budget cuts. There radar systems where only monitoring flights coming into the US. They didn't monitor domestic flights because it wasn't thought of that enemy aircraft would takeoff and land from our own soil. If the aircraft was hijacked while flying over the ocean, or Russia was sending over a fleet of bombers, then they would have had plenty of time to scramble jets to intercept. Even if NORAD somehow got a stand down order it wasn't there duty to begin with, and by the time the did locate those flight it would have been too late.. just like what happened that morning. When you talk about NORAD and 9/11 its like comparing the FCC to asteroid monitoring or the US coast guard to mountain rescue.

Update: We got mentioned on Alex Jones' show when a caller mentioned this post. Jones went off on a rambling talk about how he didn't want to come to the Phoenix conference but they wheedled him into it, then whined when he cancelled. Jones also claimed that we must be behind the fake blog, that this was some sort of way of getting attention. He also seemed quite depressed, which of course cheered me up to no end.

It's sad when the biggest conspiracy poster on this site, pisshead, wont even defend his cause :( But I give eg credit atleast for sticking to it.

HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF ALEX JONES? HE'S SOOOOO COOL!

I have assiduously avoided much discussion of Alex Jones, as I prefer to deal with weightier issues than the rantings of a professional conspiracy theorist, but I get e-mails every day asking me what I think of the guy...

Here's the deal with Alex Jones: he's the living embodiment of the old adage that:

"Nothing is completely wrong- even a broken clock is right, twice a day."

Yeah- I know of the guy's "cool cred"- being one of the Insane Texas Clown Posse that revolved around Bill Hicks. I've seen the video of the guy smoking weed, and his interview with Gary Busey was typically hilarious.

I started listening to the guy years back, when I spent a good deal of my waking hours listening to rapture-right christian radio. One day, I was listening to Radio Liberty, and Dr. Stan had Alex on as a guest. I started listening to online Alex Jones archives, and it was interesting, in one respect:

Caller: Gee- I agree with what you're saying, Alex- we're living in a horrible situation, in this country, and I thank you for being a courageous voice for liberty.

Alex: Thank you- what's on your mind?

Caller: Alex, earlier, when you were talking about (insert issue,) you missed something very important- that...

Alex: SCREW YOU! YOU'RE A SHEEP- A MINDLESS, GUTLESS SHEEP! HOW DARE YOU? HOW DARE YOU? GET OFF MY PROGRAM! YOU'RE NO BETTER THAN THE NAZIS, JANET RENO, OR THE BILDERBERG GROUP! ENJOY YOUR TRIP TO THE OVENS, YOU SHEEP! YOU'LL BURN WITH THE REST OF THEM- MARK MY WORDS!

This would happen at least once a program- I dunno whether this sorta on-air behavior was supposed to reflect his passion for the issues, or entertain the audience as a bit of radio theater- it was all pretty much senseless rage to me, and while he has mellowed out, in recent years- at the time, he came across as a cartoon caricature of a crackpot conspiracy theorist.

In those days , Alex was a self-admitted diehard conservative who was being "shut out" by the legendary "liberal media." He spent his on-air time talking about Ruby Ridge, Waco, Bohemian Grove, The Oklahoma City Bombing, and occasionally would prove himself to be a early soldier in the culture war, decrying the "satanic" nature of the entertainment industry- particularly video games.

Now- don't get me wrong- Alex, serving as the aforementioned broken clock, was right twice a day, and during those moments, delivered some great information that was genuinely repressed by the powers that be- and for that, he deserves props, kudos, shout-outs, what have you. The only problem is that my clock isn't broken, and once the minute hand skipped forwards, Alex was back in bullshit territory- "Moloch, Satan, Kissinger, Rockerfeller, Luciferian society, bullshit, bullshit, bullshit."

Fast-forward eight years, and Alex has turned his ham radio broadcast into a world-spanning internet media empire. But as the twig is bent, so grows the tree.

Ya see, Alex Jones remains what he always has been: A professional Conspiracy theorist- all well and good- the Weekly World News wouldn't be the media powerhouse it is, if there weren't an audience for that kinda stuff. However- the Weekly World News never claims to be a "News Source" (and neither do I- anyone who comes to me for "news" is seriously deluding themselves.)

The guy is a bullshit artist of a scope that makes L. Ron Hubbard look like a piker. He seizes on the most minor of issues, and blows them up into am indicator of a formless greater conspiracy (more on that, in a bit.) Why does he do this? Because hell- if it bleeds, it leads, and the more BS you post, the more suspicion you sow, the more shock you can spread, the more people will wanna come and get a taste.

And who can blame the denizens of Alex Jones' Prison Planet? When you go to InfoWars, you get the feeling you're entering a resistance cell- there's so much stuff to wade through, presented time and again as "the stuff big brother doesn't want you to know." Geez, dude- just going to his site officially makes you a member of the Rebel Alliance- how cool is THAT?

Well- it's not cool- on so many levels...

First off- His vast conspiratorial worldview isn't holistic, in the least. For the entirety of his career, Alex Jones has been scribbling all over the map, but has never been able to connect the dots. Veterans of the Prison Planet speak in generalities about Masonic, Satanic, and Luciferian entities that date back centuries, but they are at a loss to describe exactly what's going on in their Prison Planet beyond vague generalities richly peppered with references to "Moloch." Thus, on the Prison Planet, the fight is eternal- the enemy is everywhere, nameless, and constantly shifting identities and goals. If that isn't a recipe for endemic paranoia, I dunno what is- and that ain't healthy, folks.

Secondly, Alex claims to have "transcended" the "right/left paradigm." In the vein of folks like Neil Boortz, Glenn Beck, and other sowers of insanity, he claims to be be too enlightened to sully himself with the existing politics of the day. Such is bullplop. Alex, early on, realized that his wacky message would sell like sand in the sahara if he appealed only to the tin-hat crowd in the red states- he had to expand his appeal to gullible folks all across the political spectrum- and in doing so, set himself up as an "impartial" political figure who was beyond any partisan reproach in his pursuit of a political agenda that remains solidly rooted in bible-belt conservatism.

Lastly, and most importantly, when you weed through as much as you can of Alex's rapidly-expanding conspiratorial opus, one is immediately struck by the overt negativity of his worldview: everything, everyone, every corporation, every politician, every cultural institution, every school, every university, every contrary opinion, is the product of faceless malevolent forces that control our world, on every level. Listen- there are a lot of dangerous forces at work in this world, and we should be aware of them, but in Alex Jones' world, there isn't any hope of fighting back- the only solution he presents is to continue visiting his website, and sending his videos to all of your friends.

Now- tie the three together:

Jones presents himself as the sole dispenser of truth, as a transcendent figure. The faceless enemy is everywhere, and is defined solely by Jones. The only hope of redemption in an increasingly confusing world are the teachings of Jones.

Uhh- am I the only one here getting Jonestown vibes, here? (Pun fully intended.) Jones, whether he knows it not, has succeeded in building the first western internet-based cult:

Alex asks that you surrender your critical thought, to follow him- "Bob" only wants a mere 30 bucks of your money, and then doesn't ever want to hear from you again...

In the end: Here's the deal:

I have never payed 1-cent to Alex Jones. And you have a point about him trying to make $$. On the other hand I think your Wrong in your thinking, You seriously think Mankind will fix global warming? It's hard to talk politics with people who don't have there life organized and planned.


It is hard for them how someone could be doing something for the betterment of the family and not just them self.

to think, that governments/people do not have a plan laid out many years in advance is stupid to say the least.

alex collects news story's you can find anywhere, but to people who can not think past there own small life, they can not see a bigger picture.

i mean, just look at the Israeli/palestine conflict and zionism.

First off, Alex Jones is the radical side of this debate, so his radical views may not reflect all 'conspiracists' views. Personal attacks on Alex Jones will not change peoples minds. It costs alot of money to run a website and produce documentaries. I've heard him mention about how he cleans carpets too, yeah he must be making a fortune and just doing it for fun. I don't consider myself a full on 'conspiracist' because I only care about politics and not about how Bush is supposibly a devil worshipping cult follower. I'll tell you now that personal attacks against Alex just fuel us even more. What he does is gather information, whether it is credible or not, and puts it out to the public and discusses the effects it's having on the world. Theres so much government corruption, do you really want to believe "what they tell you", how can you trust them?

As for any 'evidence' that comes up false, there are still many coincidences and mysteries still unanswered.

I completely respect your opinions when I argue, I hold no personal grudges or anything. I just can't seem to shake the feeling that we are all being lied to. Giving up some liberties for freedom? Thats like saying we need to give up an ounce of weed in order to keep a pound. Then it will be 2 ounces, then 3, before you know it, you'll have a gram left. (I thought that was a good analogy, hehe).
