if you want change, try revolution or evolution. in my opinion, the best solution is to keep on havin' a good time under the ice.
I will keep telling myself that, Its a Plant. It takes time, or revolution for change to happen.Quote:

Much Love,
I voted...went through the painful process of requesting an absentee ballot...sparked a huge bowl of dank...voted for (among others) Kinky Friedman for governor of Texas...mailed in ballot. Waited 2 weeks for actual election to take place only to be blindsided with disappointment: The congressional district that I live in went to a democrat, My choice for Governor lost by an astronomical margin.
And to make matters worse, as of 12:10 central time, I would say that both the Colorado and Nevada MJ initiatives are hopeless.
I don't really see the point of voting anymore. It seems that whenever a good candidate or a great progressive idea comes along, an entire voting bloc of citizens with mental illness steps up and calls themselves...The Democrats...
Like Kinky ever had a chance in the first place. I gotta say that I love the guy, though.
Did Texas vote Dem, or Rep for Gov? Just curious, as you seem to be blaming the dems for Kinky's loss...
I voted and I feel really good about it. It does help that almost everything I voted for passed and the right people were elected. But in Washingon that happens pretty much every election. Pot is the police lowest priority.
Why do you all vote for people who want to put you in jail?
Would someone please explain this to me?
Most everything I wanted in my state came through. Got rid of a conservative, replaced with someone more liberal. Got the stem cell initiative passed (I want to live longer). Got minimum wage raised, which should help out the poorest folks. No extra taxes on smokes (they're already high enough). All-in-all, I'm happy that I voted, and even happier that pretty much everything I voted for passed (or the things I voted against failed).
Am I happy that the three states with marijuana-related initatives didn't pass those? Of course not. But the real problem there lies with the federal government anyway, and liberals are more concerned with personal freedoms and civil liberties than conservatives, especially religious conservatives, so I feel progress has been made. I mean, our new speaker of the house, her district is the most liberal freedom-loving city in the country, and she is both smart and outspoken, so I think she can make a real difference.
For those who sit on their voting rights rather than using them, that's cool with me, as it just makes my own vote have more effect. Heck, if nobody BUT me would vote, that'd be great, since then I could make ALL the laws! ;)
If we can get barack obama elected prez in 08 then more history can be made.Nancy Pelosi is at least open to the prospect of medical MJ right? U got 2 stand 4 something or you will fall 4 anything.:D
I was surprised of the really big turnout here for a non presidential year... all but one of my candidates are winners today...
I vote for hope of a progressive change in our country. As long as conservitives have the reigns, more liberal ideas, and such could never unfold in this country. But, we now have control of the House of Reps, and it's likely that we will gain control of the Senate as well. (I'm talking about the Dem's) Not as good as I would like, but it is the best a person like me could hope for right now. (A lefty potsmoker)Quote:

Much Love,
hmm, i still dont like voting for corrupt assholes despite being told its my civic duty or how proud people get about the fact that they voted when most werent informed anyway, they vote straight party. if someone resembling a human being runs under a major party ticket some time in the future ill vote. and no political candidates,k throwing a football around and showing pictures of your family or windsurfing doesnt make you seem any more capable of independent thought.
and everyone here seems to be forgetting that for pretty much all of the 90's democrats had most of the power and shit wasnt that much different, except i will say they didnt invade iraq
I'm pretty damn glad I voted despite feeling so apathetic to do so. As long as that bastard George Allen loses.
For those of you who voted..Well done! (even if you did vote incorrectly...lol)
For those of you who didn't...maybe your temperament is more suited to another country. A move might be in everyone's best interest.
In Vien
"If voting made a difference, it'd be illegal."
Well, the house and senate are controlled by a different party now. I'd say, voting does make a difference, plant. (Obviously)Quote:

I don't want to argue Plant. It is your right not to vote, and if you think voting is futile then that is your right as well. I'll not try to convince you otherwise anymore, cool? I apologize for being dick. Now, take back that slave remark, and we'll be even...
:D
Much Love,
I like the Swedish Proverb in your sig, btw.
Yes, a good ole' fashioned "agree to disagree" is in order.
And I'm not the one who first made that 'slave' remark. Jim Morrison frequently yelled that to the crowd at his concerts, and I've always found it entertaining for whatever reason. To some degree though, he's right.
Cheers. ~
We're all slaves to the system. Hell, even Morrison was. Sure, he was a bit of a rebel, but when push came to shove, he was just like everyone else who lives in America.
I watched the Doors the other night. That scene where they're in the desert tripping peyote, and morrison is going on about fear, then says ""I was lying, I am afraid" Fucking priceless...
I love that movie!
So you're going to sit on your ass and wait for someone to make a difference for you? Sorry dude, but that responsibility is just as much yours as it is mine, and everybody elses. That applies to every aspect of your life as well as Government.Quote:

I guess I'm the one being a dick, but all our asses are in this together and I'm not going to let anyone off the hook on this one. Voting makes a difference. People blowing off voting makes a difference.
Lol, ohhhhkay Hamlet, continue placing your votes if that fulfills you or makes you feel like your contributing. I wouldn't say I've given up, but fuck, I probably should. Just look at our gov't today, and honestly try and tell me that there's hope for a nation free of corrupt officials and leaders anytime soon.
There's more hope in an empty cabin out in the middle of nowhere, away from everything that I dispise about society. And I'll probably end up out in the middle of nowhere someday, too. ~
whats up guys.....what are you talking about?
everything is fine....sheeeeeeeesh
Hey guys why are we not hearing about voting fraud? Voter Intimidation
Did you see the way that the republicans handed over the reigns?......Classy...I must say.
The best quote i herd all week is when someone called Nancy Pelosi...a "Socialist Dingbat" I love that lable.....
I imagine that's exactly what a Mexican says to himself (in Spanish) about his country, right before he swims the Rio Grande to come over here. That's why third world countries are so fucked up. They see themselves as peasants who can't do anything about the tyranny and corruption of 'the Powers that Be'. ...and most of them can't-BECAUSE THEY'RE NOT ALLOWED TO VOTE.Quote:

Pick up a paper, or turn on the news. Politicians are kissing your ass to do anything you want if you'll vote for them. You want a Government free of corruption? Make it happen. Enough voters get together and say 'this corruption's gotta go!' and the Suits wanting to stay in power will drag DeLay, Ambramoff, Ney and the rest out in the streets and shoot them for you.
You're not going to escape society running off into the woods and trying to live off the land. Believe me, I know a thousand hippies who've tried and are still trying.
Government is like any other kind of power--sex, money, fame, food, or fast cars--either you control it, or it will control you. And don't say ya don't wanna play cuz you're already in the game.
shame on those who didn't vote.
Unfortunately there were no Libertarians or Greens running in my district. I had to vote for all Democratic candidates.
America could very well be a third-world country. It certainly makes sense to me.
Politicians are kissing my ass and making false promises to get my vote, and most of the time, go about their business and fill out their own agenda. But I don't for one second buy into any sort of "sincerity" they might throw at the general population. I must say that some politicians do seem to care about the citizens they represent, but most are led by dreams of power and money.
And I don't quite understand your logic for that "either you control the gov't or it controls you" analogy. If by "control", you mean placing a single vote for some Suit ultimately representing a meaningless party full of the same unfulfilled promises, then yes, call it 'you being in control'. Yet you used cars, fast food, and money in the same sentence, but it's nowhere near the same thing. If it were that easy, I'd drive on down to Wendy's and order a double George Washington and a frosty. THAT'S control. We only control the names on the desks and the color of the state, and nothing more. In the end, it's all the same. It's not like we can go from pawns to Kings in this so-called game you speak of.
That's just my opinion of things though. I'm definitely not looking to change any minds here, nor do I think mine can be changed. But hey, that's politics, and this is just my :twocents:
As for my great escape from society, I also agree that I can't escape it, but at least out in the woods, I won't be constantly reminded of a world gone to hell. All I'll have is the solitude of the forest, and my own mind to keep me company. ~
Sorry man, told ya I wasn't going to let anyone off the hook on this one so it's something I gotta do.Quote:

Nothing more? You're so wrong there. We put the agendas and values that we want represented into those names on the desk, and colors on the States. Sure there are plenty of sleezeballs who have their own agenda but that can be dealt with. The Christian Coalition figured this out and has the most venimous serpents in Washington (DeLay, Ney, Bush, etc) professing how they love Jesus and pushing their religious agenda through. <--You don't like what they're doing? You want to fix that agenda? Get on a bandwagon and let'm know you're a citizen that doesn't take any shit. You get pumped and others will get pumped too. Leave it to someone else, and you're going to wake up in a nightmare where you don't even have a wilderness to run off to.
It's not like we went from pawns to kings in this game ya say? Fuckin'A believe we went from pawns to kings. We've got the vote and we can tell the ruling class to kiss our sweet ass if they don't like it. First time in history too, our founding fathers set it up so that we're in charge. Many got got their balls blown off and hanged trying to git 'r done, but here we are and we're keeping it. My opinion counts--and your opinion counts. From toothpaste to TV they wanna know what turns you on and deliver the goods. If your opinion is 'this is all fucked up bullshit and I'm throwing in the towel" ..someone is going to seize that opportunity and push their own agendas through, or take it right back to Monarchy domination.
By all means go live in the forest and enjoy it. But every now and then come down out of the hills and cast a good vote. It's what's going to keep them from coming for you to drag ya out of the forest and plowing over your cabin.
guess what nimrod they tend to care more about representing what people who give them millions of dollars and actually have the power to control more votes than just their own do, honestly they could care aabout a pissed off citizen who isnt taking it any more. and guess what, it isnt throwing in the towel and settling for a monarchy if you dont want to contribute to a system you feel is corrupt, feel that either party is more concerned about being in power than actually using that power for good, i guess you just pulled that out of your ass. keep telling yourself you really have a say in the government if it makes you happy but you arent going to convince anyone who already knows better so just give it a rest there uncle samQuote:

Yeah? Then what the hell is it? Enlighten us between breaks in Worlds of Warcraft what you think it is. If it's corrupt it's because lazyass couchpotatoes mooching off the system and not contributing have allowed it to get that way. Pickin' your nose, doing nothing and bitchin' about a corrupt system doesn't make you Thoreau.Quote:

so basically what you did there was respond to nothing i said and just said i played world of warcraft and ate cheetos, two things you completely pulled out of your ass. you just keep changing the world all i ask is that you dont act like you are better than people who dont vote. for god sake if you dont trust the candidates or have a problem with the system you dont have to partake. there is a reason voting isnt a law. do you understand the bases upon which this country is founded. there is more to democracy and god fair government than voting. i already said several times if there was a candidate i like i would vote, so stop calling me lazy. and for christ sake and dont take it so personal. what you need to do is calm down:thumbsup:
I believe I responded to everything you said. (which was basically nothing-- except for a couple snide 'names called' and some mumblings about not participating in a corrupt system.) So if you want to make it personal ad hominem because you're lacking a valid arguement, don't get in a snit when it's served right back to ya.
Im glad you guys fight too.....
im not the only one.....
ready, set, break..........resume.
Fighting? Who's fighting? ...okay, I guess I am. ..my boo. But I choose my battles discreetly. This is something worth fighting about. We're all sitting here like a bunch of anonymous fugatives because we've been too apathetic to do anything about it. Well, it's time to do something about it.
why you act crazy? not an act maybe?
