yeah i have a few of those hoods, i just thought the light was move intence from the side of the bulb

i bought more stuff yesterday replaced my 2 warm CFL with same wattage but the ones that look blue...they are 5500k...heard they were better 4 veg, i still have the the big 46w its warm though...who cares

also bought a new powerstrip...6outlet

bought 25 foot extension cord
bought the electric box to house the ballast and igniter
bought the romex cable clamps
bought a male plug
like 10 hooks just 2 have, figured i can use them 2 hand lights

i fucken forgot 2 buy the wire connectors, you know the lil plastic cones to connect 2 wires, you twist them ...i need more but i had barely enough

i still need 2 make a hood for the 70watt hps, and it also came 2 my attention that my lil growspace is all wood, no reflectivity at alll...im just gonna flat white the whole inside but im scared that it will kill my plants, holo long will it take 2 dry and i can put them back in there?

oturbojoeo4o, sounds good. electrical tape those connections if you don't have any more of those wire connectors. Research home-made pyrex cool tube building for your 70wHPS or if you just need a reflector, there are tons of ways to make one. :D As far as the paint, I would think that it shouldn't do much to bother them if you move them out of the cab right before the lights go off and put them in some other black dark space temporarily. Then spray/brush on the flat white immediately and give it good ventilation. It should dry within the time it takes for the plants to "sleep." G'luck.

budbreath420: i havent made a reflector yet plus its weird since my timer is in the growbox...i have 2 route the cord our of the box so the ballast is outside, then i have 2 run the male connecter back in and put it on the timer...lol im lazy so i really havent seen the temps, but im planning on using it with the CFLs since more light really isnt over kill...also the temps in ohio raised back up to the 60s so the box is like 5degree hotter then when it was chillyer...hoping for some nice crisp cold air to be sucked into the intake :)

TGF and invision, i feel honored that ur check my grow out, i look at urs religiously....hope im doing ok...this is the first grow that i put some elbow grease into....i also saw reflectix at home depot (yeah i just realized HD is cheaper and has a bigger selection than Lowes, i never knew, even though the buildings are basically 1/4mile apart...just always went 2 lowes, no reason) was 14 bucks for a 25ft roll...but i didnt buy it :( stupid me, i think im gonna do that instead of paint since i really cant move the desk outside nor have the time 2 paint it :)

As much as you are excited about growing what you are doing is not only a waste of your time but VERY disrespectful to your parents who will legally have to take the pinch if you get busted...your setup is cleverly hidden but it is weak and will not produce any significant amount of bud...the juice is not worth the squeeze!!

Hey man, don't worry about the static everyone is giving you. Your relationship with your parents is your own business. I'm hiding my own growing from some room mates, so I feel your pain.

Anyway, I've never heard of anyone using the fert spikes for cannabis, but since you are experimenting I'd say it's worth a try. I've tried the Miracle-Gro ones with house plants and it seems to work. However, you should only use a little chunk at a time to make sure you don't fry your plants. And at this stage in growth, it doesn't look like you should use them yet. Wait until the very bottom leaves on your seedling begin to yellow, that means that they are running out of the nutrients that are in the soil and it's time to give them some nutes.

You might want to think about buying some liquid fertilizers. I'm not sure how consistently those fertilizers spikes release the nutrients. But again, it's your experiment.

Do you know anything about the ScroG method? You might want to think about it with your height restrictions. Do some research on it, it might be the perfect thing for you. Either that or low-stress training.

here some pics of the ballast box again...finally go the holes punched out and now i have it in the growroom, i used the "clamp light" clamp and i put the HPS light in there, hold the socket perfect, so now all i have going is 2 coolwhite CFL and the 70watt HPS

the plants look like shit 2 when i opened it up 2 install the HPS, they just looked really heavy, but no curling, wilted i guess u would call it, i dont know

looks like i need another passive intake, the one i have is 2 small i can tell cuz when the door is closed the exhaust just isnt blowing as hard with the door cracked...so ill add another 2in hole...that should help things out slightly

so basically now that im not high anymore i can see that the male end was suppose 2 be hooked up the the cord that goes to the light, therefore you can unplug the light from the electrical box....i did it totally wrong lol, but atleast i got the length were i want it...i need 2 cut alot of cord between the box and the powerstrip...i have alot of slack no need for the whole 25ft

-5x7 piece of aluminum $0.25! making a reflector for the HPS
-those wire connectors...now i have alot of them :) only like $1 for 12
-and a roll of that plumbing "strap" has all the holes in it...gonna use it to hold the reflector, i want a really "airy" reflector...cool the bulb down :)

with 2CFL and the HPS on for about 7 hours the temp was 88F that was with door closed and only one intake hole...so im hoping adding this other intake will help a lil 2 drop the temp

That first pick you posted is that what came from the security lamp, or is that something that you bought seprately? I don't even know what they are so I can't give you a name.

thnks man...im learning as i go...lol im doing all this ballast shit soo i fiigured id update the lightswitches in my bedroom to new ones...and i was like nah i dont need to pull the circuit breaker...dummy i accidently touched a screwdriver to both terminals...felt weird, i alwaya thought 110-120v would feel a lil different, but then again its the amps that would kill you, just felt like a really high powered electric fence, after i got shocked i felt like i had all this new energy inside me

i think from now on im gonna start unplugging the source of power before starting any work to the circuit lol...would that be a good idea?

Good_Vibs: here is a pics of the lamp on the box i didnt have a pic when it was everything was still intact sorry...the box u see in the second pic i bought that it is used to put into walls for light switches or plug outlets, but the ballast and ignitor fight nicely in it so i bought it, its just called an electrical box

Ok here we go from the start:
-Take the metal cover off that covers all the guts and prevents the guts from being exposed.
-Take all the lil wire connecters off and untwist everywire. (make it easy 4 u)
-Depends on what model you buy but the light sensor on mine was on the shaft part of the housing so i really didnt have to take the guts out to get to it...it just unscrewed and i fucking threw that bitch in a junk drawer...no need 4 it.
-The ballast and ignitor come out of the security light with like 3 screws 5/16 i believe, the ballast it like glued to the house but just wiggle it from side to side and it comes right off, no need to heat it up.
-The lamp socket has 2 tiny screws where the bulb would screw in, it hold it against the housing loosen them and the socket will come off. now everything should be out of the housing.
-as long as nothing has power flowing though it, you can cut the shit out of it...just match the wires up like in the pic...on most systems you buy they wil be the same colors as i mention: 3rd pic
-cord that goes from wall to lil ballast box will be cord #1
-lil cord piece with the female end that goes to the ballast #2
-cord that you add the xtra male adapter and goes from lil female cord(#2) and then goes to the bulb will be called cord #3
-on cord 3 take one end and wire it to the xtra male end...slide the backing onto the wire first, then looking at the back side of the plug i put cord#3 white wire on left, black on right side and ground on the green screw which in the bottom prong. then slide the backside cap to the backside and screw it in place.
-the other end of cord#3 goes to the socket, socket just match up the colors, white from cord3 to white socket, black from cord3 to black :)
-dont plug it into the power yet!

make sure all your connections of wires have the little twistie caps on them nice and tight!

-screw your bulb in and it kinda flickers and it takes about 1 min. to reach its full brightness, i love watching it warm up :)

and i wired it up just like the pics...was scared to turn it on, but if you follow the pics on the page and look really closely you should have a nice homemade grow light for alot less money. plus you can pick cord lengths, where you want to put the ballast, make yoour own reflector, all that good stuff

i just double check everything i do, that always helps i just didnt use the box for the bulb to sit in, i like how i have mine setup, its in a clamp that was for an incandesent bulb, i just unscrews one screw and the clamp came loose then i slide it over the socket for the hps bulb, the socket was a little bigger but i just tightened it down and it gripped it just fine :)

i hope that i help clear anything up...i just thought it was 10 time easier to do this than anything, i love little projects like this.

kinda thinkin i might go buy a 150watt security light or maybe just another 70watt...who knows im satisfied with mysetup as it is

what EXACTLY does a ballast do? reduces risk somehow for higher power usage? and at what point should you use a ballast? thanks

Transplanting: wait until the cups are completely dry and light. Get the new pot ready with whatever soil mix you're gonna use, and scoop a hole out of the middle to hold the plant's rootball. Then grab the stem gently, turn the cup outside down, and tug a little, and it should come right out. Then put it in the hole you made in the new pot, and fill in around it as needed to level out the soil. Then give it a bit of water. If it experiences transplant shock, it can take a week to recover and get back to growing full speed. Don't give it any nutes that first week after a transplant either.

dude please take the ballast off the rug they do get hot and you dont want your house buring down then the firemen find a nice hidden grow box.........no insurance money

invision good idea...im making some stilts for it that im just hot gluing it to...the thing is, i put the ballast underneath my exhaust and it does make wonders on cooling it down, even though the air coming from the exhaust is a lil warm, still it does wonders

-so i gave the growroom a new paintjob, flat white...only 1 layer, needs another
-added another passive intake...more CO2 filled air
-painted the exhaust and intake flat black...i cant believe how much light it absorbs now
-i tried to cover up every baby light leak that even lil pin holes got covered :)
-i also put some bounty sheets on the exhaust...plants are starting to smell green lol

I STILL NEED SOME OPINIONS ON WHAT SHAPE TO BEND THE REFLECTOR!

Get a razor knife and just cut the cups off of the soil, becareful not to cut too deep, and just be gentle. Make sure you have your next medium ready and transplant directly in. BE GENTLE!
The best way to cut is to, cut around the bottom of the cup to make it open ended, and then make a vertical inscision and simply fold the cup off the soil.

props on the grow, takes me back to my days at moms house, i had a walk in closet though, i wish you the best success, look into LST(low stress training), dont top your plants like someone said, topping very bad, all elements of your enviroment seem to be under complete control, i will def be keeping tabs on this one

Quite impressed with your grow, i've been following it for about a week now. You seem to have done your research and I like the stealthiness of it. I'm looking around for a decent sized dresser i can take the back off of and grow in there. Anything you've noticed to look for when trying to find a stealth grow spot?

Personally I would go with #1 from your pic (its a parabola... like the Tool song :thumbsup:) That should provide a good even spread across the entire grow area for ya.

I'm about to transplant my first plant here as well... I'm kinda nervous about it too haha.

I have found that kneading the cup lightly all around the diameter helps lossen the soil and lets it all come out a little bit easier. Also tapping the bottom (if you hold it upside down) works too.

well ive been off here 4 a while sorry peeps, im used to daily updates been growth has been slow :( so i figured i really needed to transplant! i went to homedepot and they had no square pots....no one did! so while i was there i bout some SCHULTZ 2-7-7 ...made for cactus and other succulents, 7 drops per every quart...i heard this was good stuff so i bought it for like 2 bucks...no luck on the square pots soooo.....

ok well i transplanted! i went to the dollar store and bought some tupperware...like 4 quarts i think for a 1.50...i cut the tops off so they are square all the way up...i didnt have any white paint so i freakin painted it black...hope that doesnt roast my roots

anyways i used SantaClawz idea and i cut the cup off since the soil was still kinda damp it didnt wanna slide out...the roots looked awesome, i didnt think there was going to be that many!

so i bought MG soil and i mixed it with some pro-mix i had since i heard MG is kinda strong for MJ pants...the MG soil was for "newly planted" and promotes rapid root growth...this soil was sooooo soft :)

i went to wal-mart and bought some activated carbon for lil over 4 bucks for 9oz of it...and i bought a 4pack of those filters for your furnace for $2.20 and im gonna make my own carbon scrubber out of it :)

(omg and the cup of noodles was 32 cents and a fuckin frozen 12inch pizza was 98cents!!!!! lol aweome muchie food)

i also went to the hardware store in the clearance section they had a socket prewired with a movable head for $1, bought 10 of those little wire clamps for 10 cents each, and i bought that miracle grow soil

here some pics ive collected over the few days...plants look really shitty i dont know why! really droppy :( i also moved the CFLs lil further away since the damn plant has 5 nodes and it looks like a freakin lowryder!, the light seems like it struggles to penetrate, im running the 2 5500k CFLs and the 70watt HPS at the same time i have about 54 watts per square foot at the moment, id like to either buy another 70watt HPS or thinking about buying a 150w(scared about heat) i have 2 empty sockets that i can put CFLs into but i wanna buy maybe a CFL security light and convert that :) who knows i just hope these plants dont get shocked from the transplant.

i also gotta get used to the dry/wet weights of the pots again, and Firebloom: i bent it the best i could since when you bend it to where you want it, it just goes back to its old shape...so i had to bend it like extremely so i kinda ended up with a parabola, more like a ^ without the sharp edge more rounded :)

greenburn i just say try to keep it light proof and make sure you have good air circulation...you can basically turn anything into a grow cab...im currently looking at a broken bigscreen TV that i might gut out and light proof...

i really like these rubbermaid grows you see, Bodom of children and TheGreenFog have excellent examples! but these must be hidden in a closet because at first glance you can tell it aint just no ordinary rubbermaid tub

i like the grows that are in plain site and no one knows!, i try to hide intake and exhaust, i turn my fan on a lower setting when i need to be really stealthy

my favorite grows of all time consist of the C13 and C22 wardrobes...they are the best growing space for any house! they have much hhead room and they look like a regular wardrobe, you can seal the doors very easily, really easy to drill holes and run tubing/hoses

im really thinking about this for the future with a small DWC hydro setup, id really love to try hydro...id like a wardrobe in my room because i have a perfect spot where i can exhaust the air straight out the window, i figured id seal the window and tubing ..thats another subject ill stick with this grow for now!

but id really like to grow withmuch height restrictions

Can you post a link on how to make your own carbon scrubber? That may be a fun weekend project, you might be inspiring me to make a grow cab out of my desk drawers, i would have to take measurements, if I do i'll try to keep a grow log.

WOW! so i get home like 10 mins ago and i was like well ill check and see if they both are wilted instead of just one (Havanna)

so i crack open the door, temp was 85...humid 36% and the plants look beautiful, ive never seen them so full of life, no crispy feeling leaves...the leaves looks nice and flat...seems like they stretched a lol bit which i wanted since they were super compact

i guess transplanting was the greatest idea. or maybe it was this schultz cactus food? who knows

soo i was in such a good mood that i hooked up another CFL its a warm white one 42W(actual) and i have it facing the plants and i have my exhaust turned on high :) so now im about 73W per square foot :)

I think this is day 18 from sprout...i cant remember, i really dont know how long im gonna veg, i think long enough so i can do some LST, right now theyre really small with a fatass stem!

i really dont know where there are instructions on how to build a small scale carbon scruber...so i just making mine to look like the fish filters:
filter element with carbon sandwiched inbetween....im sure ill make a lil tutorial, but im hoping it works like i want it to and doesnt cause my fan to work really hard which makes it kinda loud (not cool)

i was thinking about mocking the large scale ones that look like a cylinder, but my exhaust port is a rectangle soo im gonna see what i can do :)

fuckin woke up and the warm CFL i added had leaned to far towards havanna and gave her some burns...i sure she will heal from this, it just took me by surprize when i opened the door and the CFL was basically crushing the plant :(

i just took the CFL out because the temps were 90 degrees and 25% humid sooo...i also left my space heater on all night and forgot, so i think that might have been a lil factor in the crazy high temp

Looking great man, just a few tips:

1. Let your soil dry up pretty good before transplanting. It will stay together in one big mass better than if its wet.

2. I saw you say you wanted them to stretch because they're super compact. If you just wait another week or so they'll take care of that naturally. At least, thats how my babies always did under CFLs. Like just pile node on top of node on top of node and then finally then the nodes just spread out a little.

3. You said you wanted to do some LST'ing. I'm still technically on my first grow (last one got stolen), and we tied the plants down a week or two ago. They fucking exploded with growth since then, and the way the shape of the plant has changed is just fucking too cool.

oh, and don't sweat that leaf that burned on that cfl, it happens
