I didn't put the plant numbers either cuz I dont know which one it is or cuz it already has a number in the picture.

Problems at the O.K. Corral....:(
I lost track of which day it is but its not too far off. They are labeled better coming up.

Ok, guys. Gotta go for now. When I get back, we are cloning, chopping, topping, pruning and all kinds of maddness. Keep checking back in. Post me some feedback on my feeble attempt at a first grow. Thanks. Ask me any questions about the temp, nutes, watering, blah blah...anything u wanna know.
Be cool.

So I have 13 plants. They are all different sizes. I have a couple runts and some spindley-looking ones, and then I have some decent sized ones with decent inter-nodal growth.
They are almost all stretched due to the low lumes-per-foot I had in the inital veg room. Since adding the CFLs, the stretching has all but stopped.
I have experienced some nute burn on some of them, and I think some of the burn was even intensified by the CFLs in the right side being too close. This is my assumption, of course. I'd like to hear someone else's take on it...
*crickets chirping*
Well, OK, then. Onto the chopping. I have decided to only take one clone of each plant, hope it roots and then take those clones and flower them to find out what sex the corresponding plant is.
We have decided against building a separate box for the cloning...so we built ourselves a little shelf in the veg room to try it out.
Here are pictures of the cloning space.
Wish me luck.

I weilded an alcohol-cleansed razor blade. Used Olivia's Rooting Hormone GEL...and planted into rockwool cubies. Some of the plants are looking pretty bad and some of them just don't have any thing to clone, so I topped some of them. I topped them partly as an experiment to see how easy topping was and what the result would be...and mostly because the plant was a runt and it couldn't hurt. If I kill the plant, it wouldn't be the end of the world...or would it??
PIC #1 & #2: PLANT #2 - Topped. Twin #2
PIC #3 & #4: PLANT #1 - Topped. Twin #1
The twins were the two plants (#'s 1 & 2) we thought would do the best based on the look of their seedlings. They have already been outdone by #'s 3, 4, 13, 9...etc.

Be back in a little to post the rest. I know the plants aren't looking all that great now. Give me some feedback pls. Thanks.
TGF
Good grow. I would put those to flower soon, find out which are girls and try to clone her. Or whatever. Stay High m8.
Hey, W4L, thanks for stoppin' by. Yea, gonna be flowering soon, I hope. Gotta finish up the cloning process. Gonna clone one off each plant first, then flower that to see what sex the corresponding parent plant is, then will eliminate males, re-think my plan, etc. Thanks for the input. Yea I know, they are too big! CraP!
:D

The previous ones were topped, while these were just cloned off of a nice outshoot. :)
:rasta:
Looking very nice.
I have seen far FAR worse first grows than this; all-in-all, I think you're doing very well!
Some questions: what light(s) are you going to flower with? HPS? What size? CFLs? You can flower with CFLs, but you won't get much yield that way. But HPS lights generate a fair amount of heat, and I didn't see a cooltube or any type of air-cooled reflector in there. Just gonna leave the doors open when the lights are on during flowering?
I wanted to do pretty much what you are doing. I have a closet I could use which is about the same size. But I couldn't think of any way to cool it properly without cutting holes in walls or the door or the ceiling for ventilation in/out, and the woman nixed the idea of me hacking on the structure of the house itself, so I had to go with the cabinet concept (which has worked out fine). Actually, I think I like cabinets better, so it's just as well that she nixed my closet plan.
Oh, on your pruning/topping, and taking cuttings for clones: when you make a cut, dab a little of your cloning gel on the exposed cut area, not just on the cutting but on the plant you cut from. I just tried that a couple of days ago when I did some topping and pruning, and it seemed to make a difference. I figured if it encourages roots to grow in cuttings, maybe it encourages new node growth on the 'mother' plant after a cut too, and it looks like that theory was valid. Worst case, it certainly didn't do any harm, but I think it actually helped.
Hey, Jam. Well, I'm gonna use 400wHPS for flowering. I'm probably going to flower my test clones under CFLs, but I'll get to that in a little. Thanks for the input. Yea, I know it isnt the worst grow, but it certainly leaves a lot to be desired the next time around.
As far as the closet, even I had a little resistance with the idea of hole cutting and punching, etc...but the cannabis will prevail. Mua ha ha ha But this isnt in my home anyway...know what I mean. :)
So, about the cloning gel. I was wondering about that because as I was cloning, I topped a plant before I took a picture of the whole plant...so after I dipped the top in the gel, I put it back up on the plant so I could take a picture. That got some of the gel on the plant where i had taken the cutting from. I didn't know what it would do, so I wiped it off. It will be interesting to see what it does on your plant. I would assume it just preserves that cut piece a little longer like water or something preserves the bottom of a rose stem. Let me know. I have seen lots of your posts around and look forward to chattin with ya on here. Keep checking back. I'm going to be putting more pics up everyday until I catch up. Then I have a ventilation question. THANKS

Ok, well, I'm pretty sure this is nute burn... I think I know how to fix that. The new growth is ok, cuz I leech it and back down on the nutes when I see the burn.
But look at the friggin' MOLD on the rockwool! That is one thing that I still have not been able to fix. I have added H2O2 into the res and it helps with the algae in the res but it hasn't done anything to kill the mold on the rockwool.
The only other idea I would have would be to cut little squares out of black plastic and put them over the top of the rockwool to prevent the light from reaching them, thus killing them...? Does that sound right? Any ideas on the stupid mold?? :cursing:
:D
TGF
GreenFog, I think you're doing very well too. Your plants have looked very healthy. That is key.
I would try to get more light into the branches so the plant doesn't grow upward. Using a fan to blow it away before it hits the plants really helps to lower the light. I'm only directing the light to the top of one of my plants. Most of them are getting light to their sides.
I'm not gonna make holes for the inline fans I bought. There's enough cold air in my room
My attempt at topping.
Pic # 1 & #2: PLANT 7 - runt...topped.
Pic # 3 & #4: PLANT 6 - runt...topped.
I topped them, because there were no cloneable branches...and cuz these plants piss me off.
These ones, and then the ones in the last post...#11 and #12, I think. They are the ones I moved to the right side to veg. I wanted to make more room on the left and I picked the "worse" ones. My cohort wanted to just get rid of them...but I cannot...I am like Buddhist when it comes to these plants. I cant seem to bring myself to destroy any. Even when we find our males, I want to plant them outdoors somewhere.
When cloning...I sliced my finger with the razorblade. I feel it was the plant saying, "see...its not so comfortable, is it, fucker!" lol. :)
TGF
GreenFog, I think if the surface is moist and the light is hitting it, you'll get green growth. Kind of like your lawn.
Thanks, PassThat. I am trying to increase the light with the new CFLs we put in there. I am still learning tho, so the plants look stretched, overnuted..etc. But, hey, like you said, they look healthy otherwise, and that is key. I'm getting the hang of it.Quote:

As for the CFLs, from what I've heard here about them being able to be so close and stuff...it has not been my experience. They have burned several of my leaves and I have to keep them at least 5-6 inches away or so. But they are nice and strong. I mean they are only like 24 watts but they are full spectrum (thats what it said on the packaging...each of the letters was a different color. lol) so they seem to do the trick.
Your inline fans...I would like to talk to you about them because that is what I'm getting for this space. Will hit you up about it later. Gonna post some more now. Lets see how these plants do after the massive pruning...!
As far as the mold. I'm gonna work on it.
Stay tuned!!

Here are the clones and tops I took. Wish them luck. I sprayed some seaweed extract on them...
TGF
To me, it looks like you haven't had enough light per square foot throughout the entire process ... but really, that seemed to be your only huge flaw. You made other mistakes but quickly nipped them in the bud, so to speak. You're really doing a great job though!!! :)
UPS, yea, we've figured out the light problem. I mean next time, we know not to scrimp there. I hope at least. LOL.
DAY 50 from seed (I think)...Two days after topping and cloning.
Look at the new growth. :D
TGF
Here are some more. Some of the leaves on the left side got burnt by the CFL...strange huh?
[b]DAY 53 from seed. Still vegging. Trying to maintain my vegging plants whilst I wait for my clones to root. The plants I cut (which were pretty much all of them) seem to be recovering very well. They have lots of new growth. Some of the fan leaves are burnt from the lights and possibly nutes, but the new growth looks good. I am trimming any leaves that look dead or unnecessary. I know some of them look kinda rough but I'm working on them. Keep praying for them. And pray they are ALL female. If they are, tho, I wont have enough room! Ahhh.
Let me know what you all think. :D
TGF
Still DAY 53
I cant show each and every plant. That would take too long. If you do want to see any particular plant at any particular stage, just ask. Thanks.
TGF
DAY 54 from seed. Some new growth. Boy these things grow fast. Especially upwards and stretchy when you dont have enough light, eh? LOL
TGF
Some more from DAY 54.
Got ourselves an AIRSTONE. :D Hope that helps.
TGF
Still DAY 60.
Taking all the plants out and taking nude shots of them. lol Gotta raise the lights. These suckers won't stop going up. I wonder if its the lack of light? wink, wink. :)
All tall beauties. Probably all frickin' male! :( Hope not.

Still day 60.
Some random Pics.
Pic#1: Grown into the light. Deformed.
Pic#2 & 3: Topping works. Look at the 2 nodes coming up.
Pic#4: Our empty left side. We like to take the plants out. They're MooooveabLe. Lol
Pic #5: Lots of Foliage. I wish they were all the same size.
We take them out so we can evaluate them, remove any dead foliage from the bottom that doesnt get light, check the mold (which is STILL here but not bothering plants  ), and place them into better light to try to catch some of the runts up.
DAY 60
Those leaves came from PLANT #8.
Well, I've posted lots of pics. Gonna take a breather (wink) for now. Let someone give me some feedback. Any comments, questions, advice is welcome.
I'm almost caught up to present time. I'm gonna have some questions about flowering, and ventilation soon. Please keep up with me. I need some help. Thanks. This site is great. :smokin:

I think your idea of cutting some squares of poly or mylar and putting them over the cubes to prevent mold is a good idea. But I think it's a good idea for future plants, not these. If you cover that green mold now, it might develop into something worse, so for this batch I'd just leave em alone and try the square idea for future plants. Or, try it on ONE of these plants (like the sickliest looking one), and wait a couple of weeks and see what happens before you try it on any others. You've come this far, so might as well keep going and not put your whole crop at risk.
Here's a pic or two of my cabinet, with three plants in it that got way too big due to me vegging too long (which was unavoidable, as I had to leave town for a week, and didn't want to flower until I returned). I show the pic not to convert you to the cabinet life (you seem happy with your closet) and certainly not because it's the best cabinet ever made (I'm sure it's not), but to show you how I did my ventilation, with the cooltube, passive intakes, and the carbon filter (which you can't see, it's on top of the cabinet hidden behind stuff). My light is also a 400w HPS. You are going to need to figure out your ventilation before too long, unless you just want to leave your door open and have a strangely glowing closet. ;)
Oh, one minor thing: I saw you had some electrical cables and such on the BOTTOM of your closet. I'm sure I'm more paranoid than most people about fires (since my home burned down last year), but...that seems a little scary, especially in conjunction with hydro. Electrical stuff on the bottom + gravity + hydro + pump problem or something = potential fire hazard. If my saying something about it helps prevent someone ELSE from watching their home burn down, well, I'd just feel guilty if I didn't say something. Doesn't hurt to be a little extra careful when it's your life at stake.
nice cupboard jam.... couple of questions: have u put ur intake and outake vents at the back facing the wall?? does it rattle and shake like a bastard? what temp to you top out at?
cheers man.
once again nice cupboard...
i am thinking of making a new flower cupboard and i like the look of yours.
how big is it? and finally how much can you yeild from it?
thanks dude.
Hey, Jam. Yea I've seen your cab. Very nice. I'm definitely looking to scrog sometime soon. As far as the cool tube...Let me show u mine in a few and you'll see what I'm doing. It is pretty similar to yours. BUT, my fan is not strong enough.
Regarding the electricity and the bright orange glowing closet...
No, we havent really been able to go full stealth mode yet. We have ventilation problem to work out. We will soon. Hopefully. I'll be caught up any time now then you can see what I'm working with at the "present time."
(I'm not really growing anything except tomates and peppers, tho)
:D ;)
The wires are on the right side. As of now. There is no real water or hydro system on that side, so no real danger. When I put my res for flowering under there, I will definintely move the wires. We will be installing extra dedicated circuit breakers to hold the load and to remove any wires from protruding from the closet.
So...
I think last time I left you, we had rooted clones...and were overflowing into the flower room. We need to sex quick!
Here, we are moving some of the BIG plants from the left side to the right and moving all the smaller plants to the left so we can maximize our light situation. :D:D
TGF
Cpl more pics. Gonna let the clones root a little more. A couple of them (mainly #8) are struggling.
Also in Pic #4, the very small weak looking one is the top from PLANT #8, the one that was sliced and dice and thrown away.
The one to the left of that is amazing. It came from PLANT #11. It is also a top. It is the one that was exploding with roots. It is the same age as the clones in the top cloning chamber, but at least twice as healthy.
DAY 64 from seed.
Came to check on the babies. Clones are doing Awesome. They have grown much in the last 4 days. Plants on left and right veg are also doing well. Obviously I dont have enough light still in my left side cuz it is causing major stretching to any plant I put in there, but that's all the light I have while I wait for my 400wHPS and while I wait for these clones to flower. They're just about ready!
is that inside the bulb?
i wouldnt use it just doesnt look right
Intakes are two Doran 8"x8" darkroom louvres, one on the left side of the cab at the bottom, and one on the back of the cab at the bottom left. Outtake is at the top into a carbon filter. It doesn't rattle and shake at all, although the fan is certainly audible. Cab is 47"wide x 72"high x 20"deep. If I have the 400w light on and the eight 30-watt warm CFLs on too, temps top out around 10 degrees hotter than the room (which I keep at around 72 during the warmer months, and as low as 65 during the winter). If I just have the HPS on, or just the CFLs on, then the temps get to about 5 degrees hotter than the room. Yield is ~1 pound every 10-ish weeks.
And yeah, you're overflowing your closet there! Lol, but hey, better to have too many than too few! Any calyxes on the grown plants yet? You can tell sex without flowering, generally, if the plants are old enough, from the pre-flowers. Could be you'll be able to determine sex from some of the mature plants before the clones tell you.
Hope you have a bunch of nice healthy females! If there's a lottery, I'm going with 6 females. ;)
