NEWB,1st GROW, THOUGHT I'D SHARE EXPERIENCE W/ OTHERS FOR INPUT!
By the way, I am also going to be using a 1000W MH, it's a closet grow with mad ventilation......do you plan on growing the ww out or a sog method..looks like it might get a bit tight in your growroom as these plants mature...any plans on using a HPS lamp during your flowering phase......
puff puff pass!!:rasta:

NEWB,1st GROW, THOUGHT I'D SHARE EXPERIENCE W/ OTHERS FOR INPUT!
well i got a switchable ballast mh to hps.... everywhere that i read it says that i should use MH for veg and hps for flowering...
been talking w/ some other people, and they told me that for the 1st week i really should use flourecscents, so that's why i went out and bought all those, but since yesterday when i started w/ the MH, in the day while i'm at work, and like now when i come home for lunch, i honestly can tell a difference in my plants, whereas the flourecscents couldnt...
they love that MH...
but to answer your question yeah i do plan on using the HPS but only during flowering..
damn 1000w gets HOTTT!! i got 2 big fans blowing air out of the room, and it's about 92-93F in there right now..
i need to build like a plywood, or even thinking about thick cardboard door that i can cut into, so i can hook up intake and outake fans..
going to buy one of the small a/c units here in a couple of weeks..
but yeah, eventually i definately plan on building a cabinet in some other part of the house, and dedicating that to nothing but females in a scrog.. ( can't wait for that, probobly after first harvest, take my clones, and start then! )
but some good news for me, MY OTHER SEEDLING POPPED UP ABOVE GROUND TODAY!!!
always makes me happy to know i have that much more possibility of great bud!
it's white widow too...
going to use some of that fish emulsion tonight.. in small amounts.
does anyone think that starting off my first 12 seeds in peat pellets, and then transplanting the pellets directly into another soil, may slow down the grow process?
for some reason i feel that my plants are a little behind schedule?
check out my new little lady....
PEACE!

NEWB,1st GROW, THOUGHT I'D SHARE EXPERIENCE W/ OTHERS FOR INPUT!
No, I actually think that speeds it up. Because it germinates in the peat.
No need to feed a seedling until it starts it's 3rd set of jagged leaves.
And for veg you want to get some nutrients that are mainly nitrogen...like 20-20-20 or an organic nitrogen mix. Like Pure Blend Pro.for growth.
Your definately going to have to fix that high temp. Get a powerful ac unit. And put it threw the window. Make sure it's at least 8000 btu's if it's a regular size bedroom.
I hope you got some cash because they are expencive. But nessisary.
Also you are going to need an exhaust fan. Something like around 200-500 btu's. So you can either leave it on. Or on a timer every hour for 5-10 minutes. If not useing co2 or an acunit just leave it on. If you can. Have the exhaust up high. On the roof or the top of the room. And the intake down low. Up out of the floor or bottom of the wall.
Make sure your flowering area is pitch dark. No light leaks. they are a nightmare. So go in the room with the lights off and make sure you see no light. Stay in there for a while for your eyes to adjust.
Good Luck

NEWB,1st GROW, THOUGHT I'D SHARE EXPERIENCE W/ OTHERS FOR INPUT!
Any plans yet as to when you will force flower to find the males?.......or are you looking towards a long veg cycle?.......Yea, those 1000W MH are brutal, ventilation is of the utmost importance. I always attached a dryer hose to a nice size fan funneled with oaktag to get the air in at the bottom of the growroom and there is an attic above the closet with a big fan laying on top of the opening pulling everything out. If need be, I'll throw my 5,000 btu in the window and have it in front of the inlet fan/hose contraption....... Keep an eye on that temp bro........

what up everyone! what up j, and buffalo..
j, really appreciate the input.. think that this weekend going to try and go get a strong fan, and build some kind of door in front of the door, so i can exauht into ....but yeah, the room is completely sealed of light in/out..saw these cheap a/c units on ebay that run on water, not freon (sp)..think i may try that, w/ intake, and outake fans going..
hey buffalo, what is oaktag? i hope to produce my buds as soon as possible, so i'm reallly looking to flower as soon as possible.. that's why i was worried about my plants growing slow.. after coming home from work today, in that short 5 hours, my 2 new ladies grew!!
check out the pics, they love that MH...
had to turn it off though, gave it some floro...going to give it some of the fish emultion tonight, hope it doesnt screw my beauties up..
anyways though, check out the pics, basically the same just a little more beautiful day by day....

congratulations.....
Oaktag is just a thin cardboard that can be shaped. Don't be hasty with the feedings, seedlings don't really need much for a few weeks. What are u using for soil? If you have a basic potting soil, maybe transplant to something with a bit more nitrogen.......

ooohhh weeee.. it's a long weekend out here in the U.S., and i got off of work...:D
what up everyone...how's everything, and everyone doing?
shit, just another day here...not too much has changed, plants are growing SLOWLY, but they're still green, so i am happy...
so today i watered them...i used that fish emulsion for the first time, i sure do hope that they like it...
watered them each w/:
1qt h2o, 1/2 tspn of fish emulsion ( 5-1-1 ), and 3-4 drops of superthrive..
should i be adding any other ingredients to my water right now?
i took the ph of each of my ladies, and they were all somewhere in the range of 6.5 - 7.2 .... each pot was different..
so i've got 5 x WW and 5 x NL that are actually growing right now..
one of my WW though for some reason will not shoot out it's leaf's.. it's been growing a stem for about 7 days now, and it did have the popped seed shell ontop of the stem, but when watering today it knocked it off..
check out pic #2, does anyone think that there is somethig wrong with it?
also, one of my NL's the one that had the yellow leaf, well it's still got it, hasnt really grown or changed at all ..
check out pic #4, anyone think there is anything wrong w/ that one?
but yeah, will get on later..
holla at me, advise me PLEASE!!!
PEACE!

hey buffalo, i know that you seen MAND's grow... shit looks beautiful, huh?

-
NEWB,1st GROW, THOUGHT I'D SHARE EXPERIENCE W/ OTHERS FOR INPUT!
well I wouldn't freak over the yellow leaf but it is my opinion that the 1000w should not be used before there are about 4 pairs of leaves, not includding the cotyledon set. Give those seedlings a break and and just stick with the flouos. I'm sure this is a fairly common suggestion on this board, as I have seen it stated before. Be patient, mother nature will provide:rasta:

Buffalo- what's going on man? only reason i keep questioning the MH or FLOROs is b/c i am reading through other peoples threads, and they started out w/ their HID ( whether is was hps or mh ) from the very beginning, and when i look at their plants on day 12 they've got a lot more leaf's than mine..
for some reason i just feel like my ladies are growing slow..
but believe me i feel ya on what your saying about they dont need super strength light right now, that's why i've been giving it to them 10 - 12 hrs a day..
but what i am going to do is go to WalMart and buy 2 more of those floro sticks for plants, and place above them, and just let them go 24/0...
i just want me some good reefer, been a long while for me since i smoked anything like that.. guess i'm just too anxious for it already??
so the plant that had the stupid shell stuck on the outside of it w/ no leafs, now has 2 leaf's and trying to pop out another 2... so that's good..
the fish emulsion didnt seem to have a negative effect on them, as they are still standing, and green as can be...
should i only be giving them that stuff once a week?
was reading another thread where some dude was giving it to them during the flowering stage once a week, talking bout he's going to start to do it twice/wk..
just want to be sure that it's okay to use right now, in the stage that they are in?
what does that stuff actually do, i read the bottle but still dont really understand..
i know it provides nitrogen, but what does nitrogen do for them?
anyways, i holla at ya'll later..
PEACE!

New growers always overdo it.whether it is watering, touching the plant, nutrients or just screwing up the night cycle during flowering.I don't know much about fish emulsion except that it is a great fertilizer, but how much food do u think your seedlings really need right now?........I can tell that you are an attentive grower, but be patient ,distract yourself and let those youngins take root.your patience will pay off in the long run....light, water and time are all your plants need at this point. If I am way off with my advice I'm sure that one of the veterans on the board would be slamming me right now.:p ...........just watch em grow:thumbsup:

NEWB,1st GROW, THOUGHT I'D SHARE EXPERIENCE W/ OTHERS FOR INPUT!
yeah that's what i been noticing..
so yeah, just going to leave all the floro's on 24/7 for another week or two, and then drop them under the 1000w MH for 2-3 weeks, and then however long it takes during flowering, i got the HPS for that..
i just hope that they take off here soon.. they have been growing so slow compared to others that i have seen, and been following..
we'll see though...

so i think i may have some yellow leaf's but dont know for sure.. maybe i am just paranoid..
dont think i have been overwatering, got this meter that reads soil moisture and i water when it's close to dry.. not all the way dry, but close. top of soil is crunchy...
i watered about 4 times in their 2 weeks of life.. everytime they got couple drops of superthrive, and this later water i gave them some alaska fish emulsion ( 5-1-1 ).. this is the only thing i could think would cause this..
ph level of each plant is anywhere between 6 and 7, so that should be ok..
light schedul 24/0
10 hrs of MH about 4.5 ft above them, and then
14 hrs of floros..
all plants have different types of soils.. but based all soils on N>P>K..
any thoughts??
pic 1 and 2 are different plants..
pic 1 is the one i think may have some yellow leaf's coming on ( she's my biggest ) and i just want to stop that before it happens..
pic 1 is the middle one on the 4th pic...
any advise would be incredibly and greatly appreciated.. i just want to stop before it gets bad...
could hot temperature cause this??? cause that definately is a factor..
it does get hot at times...
thanks!
-
NEWB,1st GROW, THOUGHT I'D SHARE EXPERIENCE W/ OTHERS FOR INPUT!
Fish emulsion could easily be a factor, what are the temps like?
Your plants don't need fertilizer yet. :D
-
NEWB,1st GROW, THOUGHT I'D SHARE EXPERIENCE W/ OTHERS FOR INPUT!
ok not going to feed them anymore of that.. just give them h2o and superthrive...
temps in the day w/ the MH on get almost to 100 F... i know that's way too hot, so today i went out and bought another floro tube, tomorrow going to get another one, and another clamp light w/ CFL for the 2 new spouts ....
keep the MH off until i can figure a way to keep cool...
i was reading in Jakes thread that maybe it could be the root are not getting enough oxygen.. you think this could be?
i did not mix any perlite in my soils, ( didnt know )
if that could be a factor in it, how can i change to soil so that there is some perlit in it..?
thanks, i really appreciate any help..

-
NEWB,1st GROW, THOUGHT I'D SHARE EXPERIENCE W/ OTHERS FOR INPUT!
Oof. Yeah, I had the same issue you're having actually. (if this is a root-oxygen problem).
Oh, and I also just read that anything over 90 degrees WILL effect the plant's processing photosynthesis :D They process it best 75-78.
What I would do is get the pot you want to transplant to, make large draining holes, layer the bottom of the pot with rock to keep your medium from falling through, then I would coat the rock with pearlite (just a half inch - inch) and then use this guide that was so expertly written by harddon :D:
http://boards.cannabis.com/showthread.php?t=29705
Oh, be sure to mix 25-40% pearlite with your soil.
Good luck, tell me how it goes!

hey i really appreciate the advice.. i really do think that it could be that the roots are not breathing properly at all..
really sucks , cause that means i have to go and spend some more money..
i have spent so much damn money on this grow!!! i hope that it produces good for me at the end.. it should. :D
my wife is just nagging and bitching about all the money i spend, but hey I can't lose my ladies... that's my biggest one too, the one that is starting to show possible yellow leaf's ...
*** i origianally planted the seeds in small peat pellets, and now they are 15 days old..
do you think that the root system has grown out of the peat pellets yet, or can i just dig around the plant to pull up just the peat pellets.?
and the reason i ask this is b/c they are already in 1.5 gallon pots, and transplanting means i need to transplant into larger pots, which i do not have room for...
but if i need to transplant into larger pots i guess i can find a way to make space...
thanks Mr. GrimReefer for your thoughts!

so last night i went out and bought a squirrelcage fan and set it up.. says that it will clear out 300 cubic feet per minute.. ( i think that my room is smaller than that.. )
so i hooked up one end of the dryer hose to the fan, and the other end through the ceiling and onto the hood of my light...
when i put my hand up to the hold on the hood where it is sucking i can feel decent suction,
but when i power on the light, in less than 10 mins gets to nearly 100 degrees F...
pisses me off, spent freaking 90 bucks on the fan and still doesnt do what i want..
i even cut a hole in the ceiling of my rented place to make it work, and still way too hott....
any idea's anyone..?????
home depot had those small window A/C units on sale for about 90 bucks, should i get one of these?
now there is not a window any where near my closet, so i can't hang it out a window, would it be okay to just set it at the base of the door on maybe a couple of crates.?
i really need somem help controlling the temp in there, so any input is greatly appreciated...

the soil that i put that plant in , you can tell came w/ small amounts of perlite if you look in the pic ( i didnt mix it in so it's not much ),
but is that enough, or should i transplant?

here is a small update,
i put my plants under the MH now 24/0 and they are absoulutely loving it.. every time i look at them they are expanding a little bit...
i lowered the MH to about 3 ft above them as well, so hopefully they'll be getting little more lumens..
some of them are still showing signs of nute burn, but they are growing much more quicker than they're burning, so i guess things are in a decent stage right now..
12 plants going in there right now, so we'll see what happens..
if anyone has any input or advice that may make my grow a little nicer, please let me know..
( i'm sure no one does, the way these boards work.. got to be a professional grower here, in order to get some kind of input. )
doesn't mean i'm not thankful, just putting it out there how it is..

You have to hang those ac units out the window. Or it will make your room hotter. If you rig up a rubbermade tub around it and seal to the window ,this works too. Mine is like that now. Or buy one for indoors like what you want it for. Just make sure it is at least 8000 BTU's or you are wasting your money.

Hey SJ........sorry I haven't posted in a bit...life is a bit frantic right now ...............including my garden......
pics look great, you can probably agree now that the MH could have definitely waited a bit when you first started out as well as the small presence of nute burn. Seedlings just don't need much in the beginning, now it is a trial an error game to find the proper height for your light. Lessons learned, but hey you have a nice crop going now . Give your plants plenty of positive vibes and you're on your way to some killer oregano;)

now that i lowered my light about 1.5 ft, the temp has gone up to nearly 100 degree's..
going to have to spend some more money, and get a swamp cooler... some a/c unit that works as an A/C but w/o freon...works on water from what i have read...
plants are still looking a little pale, but i swear they are growing soo much quicker w/ that damn MH...
gave them some water yesterday
2 qts h2o + 2 drops ST + sprinkles of epsom salt.... that's what every plant got.
some of plants did turn to a darker shade of green, some stayed the same yellow/green color..
on most of the plants, the bottom set of leaf's that had already started to burn from the nutes, are still burnt, but all the new sets of leaf's coming in are looking good..
i'm hoping that maybe 2 weeks, the showing of nute burn all over will have gone away, and i will have nothing but green leaf's...
i decided to not feed them during the veg stage, and just let them do their thing and grow..
when time to flower i will have done alot more reading on nutes, and know what i need, and how i need to give to them..
anyways,
i'll keep this thread updated w/ anything new that happens..

growing out of a 5'X3' closet, attic exhaust , fan intake via dryer hose to bottom of garden. Still sproutin with flouro's. Waitin' for all my babies to get about 4 leaves then I'll let my 1000W MH loose and see how she goes. walls are painted flat white with a hygrometer mounted on the wall. Plan to flower about @ 6 weeks.will probably use MH all the way, supplement with 400 HPS or just use my 1000HPS. Currently saving for switchable 1000W ballast. I'm a light freak. Basic potting soil right now with decent P. Will eventually transplant to a higher N mix. This is a new grow room I'm using so this grow is kind of a test run before I sprout the WW's. Currently building a reservoir hydro set up for 11 plants. Eventually want to have an aero system. I have always grown indoors from soil so I feel it is time to move on to hydro soon. I want to grow WW exclusively....High expectations........Will post pics as I get the time.......Appreciate the interest:dance: , don't want to crowd your thread.

damn man!! sounds like you got it going on over there..
i heard from an old man back home that growing hydro is easier than doing the soil...
it's just even more money to spend...
if this grow goes decent, and i have a semi-decent yield, then i think i am going to get a hydro system for next grow..

hey i'm wondering if you ever got to fix that temp problem. i'm having the exact same problem. 1k mh, 4x4x7 space, but i only got 170 cfm and i don't think the 170 is strong enough.

still haven't gotten it fixed.. got a squirrel cage fan to suck out of my light, rated at 300 cfm, but it's not doing a damn thing.. room stays around 98 degree's all day..
i keep the door open all day too, just have some mylar taped to this thick black plastic sheet that i use as a door.. but that lets air in and out too..
ordering another fan off of ebay tomorrow that's rated at 1350cfm.. so we'll see what that does..
let me know if you get your issue resolved..

is light touching your thermometer?
i have 2 that i use, one below the light which the light is touching reading at 98. then i got one above the plant but its under a hood so light is not touching it and reading is 80.
i think you should do this: get exhaust to blow out, i think 300 is fine for your space and get an a/c portable a close as you can to the growroom, then use some sort of intake to blow that cold air in. this is just my opinion.

temp is a funny thing.........I read somewhere that if you can put your hand just above the plants and tolerate the heat so can your plants. This is a great gauge, probably the best I have ever heard, if the area around the plants is truly hot to the hand then address your ventilation as best as possible....but then again, if the crop looks good...........well you get the idea.
never grew WW.....but I heard so many beautiful things.
