I think you guys are celebrating too soon. BC NDP is not the ruling party of canada. The Conservitives are the ruling party of Canada at the moment with 124 seats followed closely in seats by the Liberals with 103 then the Bloc Quebecois with 51 and then the NDP with 29, they really dont hold enough power to legalize weed.

Sounds good but for us iggarunt murricans, wtf is the BC NDP? Natl Democratic Party in BC? Are they in a position to pass legislature? Can they condradict the federal law (if thats the right term) on this?
I mean is this more than just some local group adopting a resolution like making all nuclear weapons illegal which really has no relevance other than to state a position?

NDP stands for "New Democratic Party". they are in possition to pass laws for our province, and that in itself will change a lot of the national mindset and significantly reduce prosecution in BC. Not to mention it'll give supporters more confidence that it is possible to win this battle.Quote:

You guys keep using the federal and provinal NDP interchangably. they're 2 DIFFERENT PARTY'S, and the one talked about here is NOT the federal one (which also wants to legalize weed).
Is marijuana REALLY going to be legal in canada??/ It sounds way too good to be true.... but if so, next time i get caught and my dad uses the exucse "i dont want an illegal substance in my house" i will show him that article....

Well I really hope that Canada does legalize it, because then the US will have no choice but to follow, at least in the relatively near future.

Its somewhat difficult actually. My wife and I looked into it a few years back, what with all the political ass-hattery we have here. I seem to recall it being quite too much of a pain with all the steps taken to become a citizen of Canada for us, so we abandoned the idea. That may change though due to news like this.Quote:

British Columbians tend to vote all over the place, the NDP don't have control over their provincal government but they have some healthy support there.
Here is a Breakdown of the approximate percentages of power each party has right now:
Conservatives- 40%
Liberals- 35%
Bloc Quebecois- 10-15%
NDP- 10-15%
The Liberals held power throughout the 90s untill about a month ago when a corruption scandel hurt their image and lost them the election. Under Stephen Harper's Conservative party we will start building our military, maybe semi-privatize health-care, maybe outlaw abortion and gay marrige, and give tax cuts to big corparations. The Conservatives tend to represent the province of Alberta (cowboy oil drillers), The Liberals, Ontario (Yuppy coffee drinking hockey lovers), The Bloc, Quebec (conquered whining frenchies) and the NDP represents Unions, pot smokers, enviromentalists and communists (they're kinda spread out across the country)
There's also the green party but a vote for the green party is a vote wasted

actually it's pretty easy for an american to become canadian, there's just a lot of paperwork, it'll take about a year untill it's official for ya. (well, it's easy as long as you don't have a criminal record) my sister in-law is a yankee-canuck

this is just saying that a certain party, the BC NDP, has passed a resolution in favor of cannabis reform. it hasnt been passed or made into law. no, canada hasn't legalized marijuana "in all forms", but hey, at least a major canadian political party has come out on the pro-pot side.
