Also, I mixed new chems yesterday to 1100ppm (top of the band) and today I read the PPMs while testing ph and got 850ppm.. Did the plants get hungry?? I have two medium sized bell pepper plants in the hydrofarm bubbler (3 gal tank).

that's got to be a good sign the plants wanted nutrients. If they are thirsty and uptake water your ppm's would rise. They were hungry and took up nutes...I would say you had good photosynthesis...
Now are you sure about your readings? Check another batch when you are ready and see if you get the same PPM reading. How many gallons in rez?
what nutes are you using?
how much did your water level drop?
ps...If you are using pure blend pro (a pre-mixed 1 part)
then you can add...
before I answer this...I need to know A's to Q's
lw
3 gal res,
http://www.supernaturalbrand.com/ nutes (the aqua grow) plus dyna grow bloom and a drop of superthrive, and they are about to get a pinch of epsom salt.
Water level seems to drop steady a couple of cups a day.. though i think its mostly evaporation.
todays ppms - 810
oh and i have some translucent critters showing up on the leaves.. look like 1/4 the size of a grain of rice.. they will probably develope into something i can identify soon.. i just keep spraying them off it when I see them. . any suggestions?
put out plate of soapy water...need piks, to identify.
best i have is a 640 by 480 web cam at the moment and they will be one pixel at best.. but what about the PPMs?? should i adjust back to 1000 with nutes? The plants are growing off the hook.. have to move the two cfls twice a day now! GO HYDROPONICS!!
This is a great topic.
Over the winter I started like 12 varieties of hot peppers in my growroom for spring planting outdoors. They were under 24h. MH light. They grew VERY fast and flowered...since I had a LOVELY greenhouse whitefly problem, guess what, they got pollinated and began to fruit.
When it was warm enough to plant I hardened them off and put them outside but I think they liked it better indoors!
Nice peppers. They are making me want nachos and beer, both in large quantity.
glad you are enjoying yourself stinkyattic
aaron, Yes mix a gallon and pour it in until you reach your desired PPM's, but
I see your problem now...you are in a 3 Gallon, right...Too Small...In order to get a good balance, you need to get at least a 10 gallon rez...peace lw
10 gallon res for 2 bell pepper plants?? Why so much?
ph balance is more consistant, and 3 g rez does not provide enough nutrtion for the plants after a couple of days...Quote:

hmm.. its a 3.5 gal bucket in a 5 gal bucket with the GH plumbing kit to bubble up and drip the water.. I cant think of an easy way to increase that capacity.. just not make the same mistake next time.. Till then I am changing nutes every few days to compensate.
I dont grow any veggies in my grow room.
too much chance of plant diseases or bugs spreading to my ganja plants
I do use some of the same practices that I have learned from my ganja plants on my outdoor veggie garden.

That is a falsehood...After all veggies don't produce bugs/disease;
Careless growing does.
I start from seed for all my veggies, and haven't had more than the occasional little flying pest, here and there, and that happens to all, unless you create an airlock. LOL
If you choose to protect yourself by those means, I applaud you, but seperation is not necessary, if you have a nice room to house both. peace
Also, this is a veggie thread...We are not talking about a Ganja Flowering Room! Stay on topic in this forum; Please!

Well I set the hydro rig outside and now have a ton of aphids destroying the plant.. whenever it opens a new bloom to produce a bell pepper the aphids eat it off.. and the bloom falls down in the hydroton (yes i pick it back up and dont leave it there).. I wash the plants off at least twice a day.. i have used poision and passive treatments.. the poison worked but i had to stop using it since the plants are making fruit (trying to anyways) and now everyday thousands (and i mean thousands) of aphids are covering it.. I kill them all.. next day.. thousands more.. and the plants havent been outside in weeks! this is all happening in my spare bathroom and i spray for bugs religiously here.. there is not a bug in any other room of the house!
What do I do?? I want bell peppers darn it!
Well if famine hits your region...I'm headin' for the Hills.
Bro, I cannot give you a clear cut answer to that, I recommend...Killing everything, and washing out system, treating entire room, and starting again. You might still be able to pick up pepper seedlings at the market. sorry
list your treatments for all to reference and we will see if I can research a comparison for ya. I am going to look into it for you, I have put in a message to My veggie Guru...OK
some plants from the nursery might have a disease.
this area has been hit recently by nurseries selling contaminated compost.
NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I will not give up!! I will kill these bitches with RAID right on the plant before I cut the plants down!!
I will kill them even if it means I cant eat the bell peppers.. just because Im a vengeful bastard.
But I hope it doesnt come to that.. I got some stuff from supernatural that the guy at my indoor garden center swears by (it is the wetness you see on the plants). He swears in 48 hrs I wont have an aphid problem.
If I do have to "sterilize" these bastards into non existance I will do it with lighterfluid and a match on my back porch.
I HATE APHIDS!!!!
Thanks for the help guys.. and here is the pain I have to watch every day...
looks like pepper plants...goodluck, bro
thanks.. i hope it works.. they are bell peppers
I drenched the plants with some wallly world stuff and no new bugs today.. keeping fingers crossed!!!
jalopeno's, a nice gypsy pepper, and some orange bells...
these orange bells are the sweetest tasting peppers I have ever had.
Pure blend pro, calmag+, using rowater. In DWC.
All future peppers are going to be grown with the drip method and/or soil pots...On with the experiment... peace:thumbsup:
p.s. We haven't bought veggies in a month:D
nice harvest..
I havent seen any real relapse of the aphid problem since the wally world spray down (which i thought would be least likely to work)..
I put my bell pepper plants back into veg cycle because so much of the growth was destroyed.. hope they recover and give maximum yield.
there is no veg/bloom photoperiod for tomato's...stay at 18/6
Nice.. the things i dont know.. haha..
Anyways, still no aphids! Got these pants back into veg.. all the buds fell off and they are growing at least an inch a day. SWEET
Take a look!
Nice job...Now keep a circulating fan blowing around them so the pollen can move around...If you 'brush' the pollen, remember to be real gentile...You don't want to knock the flowers off...get some ladybugs...their neat!
also, It is about time for you to build a tub to/from rez, recirculating drip...Then you can start 2 plants in a 10 gallon $4 sterlite tub, addatub=4plants/addatub=6plants. then you can have more than one plant to make sure you get some yield. Having 4-6 veggie/pepper plants will teach you so much more in a much shorter period of time. Having just one make your hands on resource one dimensional...
Follow me?
For instance, you could have 2 Bpepper plants in (1)tub, 2 Romatomato in (2)tub, and 2 J'peno in (3)tub...You can see whether or not or which plants thrive under your nutrient regimen...If 2 strains don't thrive or just flounder...Pull 'them and Put in a different Strain of pepper or cucumber. See what I mean.
later.peace:thumbsup:
I see EXACTLY.. There are actually two bell peppers in that pic.. it was three but one of the three just didnt make the cut.
Im on GH flora 3 part nutes with diamond nectar and DAMN that made a nice difference.. if I could give any newbie a tip on nutes its go with the tried and true.. Ive been thru 4 diff sets of nutes before i finally broke down and shelled out the change for the flora nutes.. should have got them up front.
I actually am working on getting a drip system free from its present commitment to get some more veggies in.. Ive got corn, onions and some other things germinating in rockwool now.. courtesy of a coverup story for my e-b-a-y acct.
will post pics here when i get it setup.. which has to be soon since a few have already germinated.. speeking of which.. I have to get back to work!
Lw, i have a question. This may not be veggie related and its not Mj related either but i figured since it involves tomoto plants i'll post here. I keep having a problem with plants i grow. Everytime i plant somthing, it ends up with purple stem. Could miracle gro potting soil be causing this? I planted a couple tomato seeds and a sunflower plant in some pots and they all have purple stems and they dont seem to be doing too good in general. Leaves are starting to yellow as well. I do plan on growing some Mj in the near future and i really dont want this to happen. Currently i have two types of soil, miracle gro potting mix that feeds for 3 months and miracle gro organic potting mix. I know not to use the nuted miracle gro for MJ but how about the organic? Hear anything good about it? You recommend any soil that can be bought at a local garden center like lowes, hdepot, walmart? If this is not the proper forum for this, i apologize and please move it... thanks. :)
that's Ok my friend...I use 1.99 sterile potting soil (hyponex) from the dollar store. No nutes, then I add...
Lava rocos 1" deep in bottom of pot...
to the soil I add 25-35% perlite...and 10-15% peat moss.
I spent 8 bucks for 4-20lb. bags the other day...
I am in the middle of growing some plants with Black Velvet potting soil...It is Black Cow compost potting soil...without nutes, but Organic...Added 40% perlite to that...it was real moist, almost too moist...but my 1st time using Organic
I would try the organic mix, but watch the nutes...the organic mix will have it's own Natural beneficial elements...
maybe 50% nutes until they start to get big...
red/purple stems is the sign of nitrogen deficiency...Sounds like your nutes are not doing the job, or you might be underfeeding them...get back to me about what you have been using. peace
The only thing i tried using was alaskan fish emulsions, maybe i didnt use enough... i put 1 tbl spoon in a gallon of distilled water and watered the pots untill they started leaking from the holes. I had bought a bag of hyponex before (potting soil) Is the on you got potting or top soil? Im still in the process of getting all the things i need to start a small personal MJ grow. I have..
1: Different size pots.
2:Bag of perilite
3:Organic Potting Soil.
4:Superthrive
5:Fish emulsions 5-1-1
6:Moisture meter
7:Lots of CFL and tube floros for vegging (will use hps to flower)
8:shultz takeroot (if i decide to do clones.)
Is there anything else you can add to this list? My newbie checklist :D
Ok... Not a bad idea, but the fish emulsion's are an additive, and that is your problem. No nutes.
Save your self some time and trouble...If you want to grow simple with proven chemicals and additives then buy...GH 3-part.
If you would rather stay on the organic side, then I would recommend (strongly) botanicare Pure Blend Pro (It comes in soil and hydro formulas)...Buy a gallon for under 30 bucks, and that will last awhile. At least long enough for you to find your niche as far as veggies go...That is what I use, and you cannot beat PBP for veggies...My fruit taste great! 1st time, 2nd time, and on and on!
And you don't change photoperiods in bloom for tomato's, peppers, cucmber's etc...Let me know what you are up to.
peace
Well, the only reason i got organic stuff was because i keep reading that its hard to burn plants with organic stuff so i went that route :p. I didnt know that the fish fets were just an additive, if i would have known i would have saved my money for somthing else. I had already planned to get GH 3 part but just dont have the dough right now. No im not a youngen who lives with mom and dad... im just a regular hard workin joe that has a family and bills :D. I did find a hydro shop, but its 64 miles away. I'll probably take a trip there when i get the money to do so. There prices per gallon are
Flora micro gal. $32.98
Flora grow gal. $24.98
Flora bloom gallon $24.95
You familiar with a product line called Earth Juice? There is another hydro shop like 54 miles away and seems thats the brand they have the most of.

Here are a few snaps of the tomato plants and sunfower plant. I will probably ditch the sunflower pnat because somthing was eating its leaves whenit was outside the other day. ne last thing, no that is not my grow room, its not setup yet. i have tons of reflective material to hang.

forget the 3-part...since, you appear serious about veggies, I will stick with you bro...Get a liter/quart 17.95of pure blend pro grow, and a Gallon (27.95)of pure blend pro bloom/flower formula both for soil. that will cost 1/2 of what the 3-part cost...you don't ever need to buy a gallon of grow. It will lose it's shelf life before you use it.
the pure blend is organic, so you will be back on track.
Big tidbit of info:::Organic ferts can burn your plants as fast or faster than chem nutes...now growing in soil, takes longer for problems to develop, But if you are growing veggies. I use only Pure blend pro... peace
BGHydro.com is a safe and excellent choice for ordering online...In fact: I get them to send gallons for $2-3 bucks cheaper than if I bought it at the local store. peaceII
Thanks for all your help Lw. Would pure blend pro be good to use on MJ too? Actually i have two seeds that are germing at this moment. These are some bagseeds to practice with before i ever fork over money to buy good seeds. I just hope to get more great information from you on that area as well, thanks again.
Yes, I have success using it on my soil plants...In fact...you can use 1/4-1/2 strength for veg...full strength is around 2.2EC which equates to around 1100ppm by hanna conversion scale, then in bloom you use 1/2-3/4, or even full strength, depending on what you find works for You...that also saves You a bit of money.
You may find that You like chem nutes better later, but to start with, Pure Blend Pro will grow healthy plants for You. peace...Read up some more on your fishferts/additives, because they might come in handy. find out what the npk ratio is
Lw, in all of your grow logs, you say you use Ph'd RO water. I know what RO water is and i know that the PH range for MJ in soil is between 6.3 and 6.8 right? Well i dont ever recall you saying what you PH your water to. Do you ph it neutral or lower?
you are right on...6.3-6.8 in soil...5.4-5.9 for hydro.
I also add pulverized dolomitic lime to my soil mix to buffer the ph...peace...$2.99 a bag a wlaly's
hey Lw, is it ok to put water with superthive in it on seeds and sprouts? Im asking because i have two MJ sprouts that just popped out of the dirt and i need to moisten the soil, lights dried the top layer of soil. Would there be any benefit to the superthrive?
I have used superthrive 1/4 tsp per gallon, and spritz the soil 2-3 times a day
