The reason that I referenced Saudi Arabia,was that their treatment of homosexuals is from a fundy islamic dictate and is much worse than any treatment that you ascribe to 'homo-phobes' in this country,yet I never see y'all condemning the saudi's for it. It's a double-standard that I rarely ever git an answer to..at least I don't believe in committing violence towards gays,unless they do something horrible,as in the case of 13 year-old Jesse Dirkhising,who was tortured and sodomized and raped,until his death,for almost 24 hours,non-stop..then I believe in the death penalty being applied for such.

Despite the dismal divorce rate that you allude to,what I'm holding onto,is marriage between a man and a woman,for the purpose of repleneshing the population and mental stabilty and clarity,we reproduce heterosexually and our natural instinct,is to do so..when you send the message to our children,that it no longer matters that they fulfill their natural roles,in-stabilty and confusion are the result.

Speaking of wrong...

STDs, including AIDS, can just easily be spread between a man and a woman. The whole "only gay people get AIDS" thing is twisted logic that's been generally unaccepted since the mid-'80s. Even then it was only a notion advanced by the insanely naive (ie, Christian homophobes).

Science is a bitch, yanno?

Second, gay marriage doesn't destroy the meaning of marriage, much less the foundation of our society. If Jack and John get married, does that mean that Bob's marriage to Ethel becomes any less important? Do Bob and Ethel love each other less because of it?

Bob and Ethel are still going to get a divorce 50% of the time regardless of what gay people do. So who cares?

And lastly, I don't know about anywhere else, but here in America, marriage is not the building block of our society. That distiction goes to greed, lies and violence. I mean, look at our history and those values being supreme become quite evident.

At any rate, I'm not going to say anything else about this topic. I'm content with being correct on the issue; I don't need to convince anyone else anymore.

I'm tired of the right putting these mindless, unimportant issues out in the mainstream for people to bicker over while our country is being decimated by the worst president in history. That's where I, along with other progressives, should focus energy, the proverbial bigger fish to fry.

marriage isnt natural. humans invented it. that's why its so easy to cheat on a girlfriend or wife. the only reason that most people who remain faithful do so, is because they have more self-control than others. It's similar to a guy who can eat a pizza and still win a 100 yard dash an hour later. he just has what it takes.

I understand though I don't agree with this view. And here's why, it seems that there's a generational gap between us. I think many younger people who were raised in the 80's and 90's may be more inclined to see this "traditional" notion of marriage as failed. We're the children of the generation that just couldn't seem to get marriage to work for the most part, and so a new definition seems neccessary.
Telling homosexuals that they can't be married, but asking them to settle for a "civil union" is like telling them they can't really be in "love", that what they're experiencing is simply "homosexual love". As if there was some other form of love between two people.

I don't think the people are important in a marriage, but rather the relationship they share.

I think if we teach our children that there is no limit on human potential, that we are free to move beyond our "historical" roles, then progress will result.

"I believe that I might have come up with a compromise to this whole problem that will make everyone happy! People in the gay community want the same rights as married couples, but dissenters don't want the word 'marriage' corrupted. So how about we let gay people get married, but call it something else? You homosexuals will have all the exact same rights as married couples, but instead of referring to you as 'married,' you can be... butt buddies. Instead of being 'man and wife,' you'll be... butt buddies. You won't be 'betrothed,' you'll be... butt buddies. Get it? Instead of a 'bride and groom,' you'd be... butt buddies."

I'd also like to point out how irresponsible and cruel it is to distort the reality that is HIV/AIDS. By implying that a disease like HIV/AIDS would spread faster in group of committed, loving individuals does a grave injustice to those that have spent their entire lives trying to slow the epidemic.

On the backs of dead men, women, and children you once again lie and manipulate the truth to further your cause at any cost.

I dont see what the problem is. If all those christians are so offended by gay marriage.....forgive them. Simple, and the world becomes a more peacful and nicer place
