The fan was 61.99 at home depot, they also have a couple others that arn't enclosed in a tube like a squirrel cage style for about 85 and another style for 6" and up metal ducts for 40 (both could be installed in larger metal ducts and made just like this one). I also went on their web site and they have fans in this style (dont know where to find them though) up to 14 inch, not 8 like I mentioned previously, and they range up to 1400cfm for this same style.
I got a single 20 ft. duct now intead of 2, 8ft. ducts taped together, this way I can close the door better and keep the duct up towards the ceiling and out of the way. The only downside is the temp went up to 80 since adding the longer duct.
In the new place, I think I will make the cool tube Mellow Man posted.

Day 18...
Alright, whats wrong with the plants? The 1st 2 pics are of the worst plant (not the runt though), its leaves are turning yellow around the edges, then moving towards the center, the bottom leaves did this first, then the next ones up.
There is also a pic of the runt, and also two plants have secondary growth over night since I put in the fresh air, dont have a pic yet, will get one once I get home...I'm just about to leave to get some fertilizer.
Anyone that can help, it would be great. Thanks.

Got some "Hydro Fuel" for nutes. The people at the Hydro store recommended it, they say I'll get a better yield using this rather than others, these two are for veg. and then there are another two I have to get later for flowering. $20 each kit (part A and B) so $40 for both grow and bloom.
NPK :
Grow -
Part A : 3.5 - 0 - 3.21
Part B : 1.45 - .62 - 1.9
Bloom -
Part A : 3.5 - 0 - 3.21
Part B : 0 - 2 - 4.5

Thanks guys.
Fishy Mulshine?...huh?
How often should I feed the girls this stuff? Every watering? The instructions only say for hydro, says to change mixture in nute tub every 7-10 days, doesn't say how often for soil.

I think nutes were the answer. I watered them with nutes yesterday and today one of them has already straightened out...that same one also got the beginning of secondary growth overnight...the others might take more time to recover, but they are growing everyday...they all sped up since the nutes and fresh air. Even the runt finally started growing again, quite a bit actually.
So, do I use the nutes everytime I water?
Is this dangerous for animals to eat? Or do you say careful because they will dig up my plants? Either way, I put a screwdriver in the top of the closet so the door will not open more than a crack, so the cat cannot get in. Also, I use a syringe to measure it, so no spills.

no they won't die...lol
i don't think... just poop.. dogs love to eat poop.. but yeah, they might tear your plants up to eat the poop.. : )

Thanks for the reply to my thread indicloset...looking at the picture that Mellowman posted it dosent look that hard to hook up ..im sceptical about the wall switch part thow how does that work? im going to home depot first thing in the morning to pick one up, my all time high in the closet today was 93%-25% hummidity..i sound like a weather man .. if i didnt have a fan blowin the hot air out it could easily get to 120  ..anyways, that explains why my leafs look mutated i thought i was overwatering..how many degrees did your closet drop?...do you think it will straightin them back out? or will the next set sprout straighter?
PS. How long is the ducting? i need about 8-10 feet..
-
1st closet grow - Indica - 400w HPS
My ducting is 20 feet, lol...I dont have the cool tube set up yet, not till I move probably. The temp was 85/86 with the glass and the oscillating fan and then dropped to 80 after adding the fresh air fan, but that is probably because my tube is so long, the fan doesn't blow as hard as it would with shorter ducting. Also, the fan is just sitting on the ground. Tomarrow, I'm going to experiment more without the glass and positioning of the fan...I figure if I can lose the glass and keep it at 85 or just below, I should be fine...for now.
For the switch, I didn't bother, I just spliced the wires to an extension cord, plugged it in and now have it running 24/7. Green on the fan and extention cord are both ground, hook them up together, the other two black wires go to the black and white of the extension cord, they can go either way.
-
1st closet grow - Indica - 400w HPS
If you could get my a picture of the wireing that would be great..i really need to get this setup quick, my plants will mutate themselves to death if i dont =(..did you just set the ducting on the window seal? or did you do it another way?
-
1st closet grow - Indica - 400w HPS
My setup is just temporary until i move, but I just have the tube going out the slightly cracked open closet door, draped over the bathroom door, then attached to a peice of cardboard cut to the size of the window (you can make the width of the cardboard just bigger then the diameter ducting your using) with a hole cut out in the cardboard for the ducting to sit in.
I could not get you a pic of the wires right now because everyone is sleeping and I would make too much noise in there, but I drew you a diagram. I can get you a pic of the wires tomarrow for sure though.

1st closet grow - Indica - 400w HPS
Alright, well, I got one pic with the tape still on the wires...you can see the colors of the wires coming from the fan, but the ones on the ext. cord are all faded and have actually turned different colors, so I think it would be more confusing to post that. So, just look at the diagram for whats not in the pic. Basically, just splice it up, then tape it up, but make sure to tape each wire individually before taping them all together so they dont touch. HTH.

Well i went threw all that trouble to get everything and my dad told me no its a fire hazard, so i made his ass take it all back ..now i get to watch as my plants slowly mutate themselves to death  ..wat a waste soon ill have my own place.. i might as well turn the fuckin light off
-
1st closet grow - Indica - 400w HPS
Harsh...but, a fire hazard? I would think it would be more of a fire hazard without it since it would be getting so hot and dry in there.
Anyone know how long the plants should take to recover from the nute def.? The new stems are no longer coming in purple, but at the top where the new leaves are coming in, some still have a slight bit of purple (hardly noticable, before it was very noticable) to them at the base of the leaf.
Anyways, I took the best pics I could so you guys can see better, so if someone could take a look and tell me what you think, it would be greatly appreciated.

I got a couple sheets of info about the nutes I have. I dont think it is that fish poop, because it doesn't stink, it doesn't really smell like anything.
Here is a link to some info about it as well as others, its the 3rd one down - "Hydro Fuel" :

Also, here are pics of the sheets that I got with it and a couple more of the plants.

The pic on the far right... one of the leafs on the bottom looks exactly like mine do ..i dont think its a nut problem i think its a temp/humidity problem because my plant isnt ready for nutes and its looking like yours ..is your temp still around 85? should do sumthin to get it around the 70's maybe adding 2 fans in the duct :p ..i dunno im not a expert or anything but yeah...about the fish poop ill take a pic in awhile of what it looks like...its basicly grounded up waterd fish guts ..its called alaskin fish fert..or known as fish emulsion..plants love it, so do dogs i guess lol

My temp is steady at 80 right now. The last two pics on the bottom post on the right is just the runt, its always been like that even when the others were fine. The seed was twice as big as the others, and it took forever to sprout, it cant even hold itself up right now because the stem is so thin. Anyways, that one I'm not too concered about, I'm just interested in how its going to do, i've treated it exactly like the others. The others are showing different symptoms though. They do seem to be doing better though, and growing more since the nutes, I'm just hoping they are recovering and I'm doing everything correct now.

1st closet grow - Indica - 400w HPS
Alright, well a bit of progress in one of the plants, the lower leaves look kinda crispy, but the top and new growth is looking decent, more alive.
I did a bit of rearranging last night and was able to get the temp at 81-82 without the glass and thats with the thermometer directly under the light, if I put it on the far wall with the the bottom level with the plantsl, it reads about 78-80.
Now, when I move, the new closet is going to have to be sealed up for light and has to have a carbon scrubber. I will be able to make holes in the closet door. My current fan will remain the intake.
I was planning on using the fan in the link below (made by the same company as my intake fan) for the exhaust and to blow into the carbon filter :
http://fieldcontrols.com/ab-1.2.html
Now, the opposite side of the fan that you dont see in the pic is just a smaller round hole near the middle of the opposite side, lloks like it would fit a 4" duct. Does anyone know if this fan has to be installed into a duct like the instructions say? Or, what I was thinking, is to just mount the smaller 4" opening of the fan into a hole in the closet door, then attached to the ducting and carbon filter and just have the top part of the fan open on the inside of the closet...will this work?

I was having the same problem with the heat. I had my 400w in my closet with 4 plants and it was about 100deg.f. all day. I left the door open with a fan on the inside and one in the doorway blowing air in. It helped but wasnt sufficiant (oops SP). So i went to home depo and bought a "wall closet" for $150 along with some $10 ducting. I also bought a themostat for $13 from target. The average temp in there now is 80 deg. f. during the day and 70 at night. One thing i would say is invest in some floros and use them for veg if you dont have the money, time, or space to do what i did. I have a bathroom in my room with a large space under the counter, i use that space with 120watts in floros for my veg. This way i can flower and veg at the same time. happy smokin fellas

What were your leafs looking like when you had high temps?
-
1st closet grow - Indica - 400w HPS
IrieInSocal, looks nice :D . Thanks for the advice. I havn't been having an issue with the heat since I've had the cold fresh air blowing in over the top of the plants. My temp is at about 78 - 82 over the day and night with 24 hours of light. I was thinking of using a cabinet inside of a closet before, but I figured I could cut holes in the closet door and seal off the cracks easier and cheaper than building or buying a cabinet, my place now only has the one extra closet in the hallway and I was going to do it to this door, but I am moving into a new place and didnt think it was worth it to buy a new closet door. In the new place I am going to be using a bigger closet and doing the original plan with one more exhaust fan blowing through a carbon filter.
I figured I was underwatering since I have not been watering until the water starts to drain out of the holes in the bottom. I read somewhere you were supposed to do this, so I tried and the next day, they were all perked up and looking alot better.
Today, two plants started to droop, the pots were light, but the soil was still somewhat moist after an inch down (in the small pots, 6" wide x 5" deep), so I watered them again and now they have kinda revived a little. However, one of those two plants is looking like it is getting burnt from the nutes, but why just the one, wouldn't others look burnt as well? I am using the 2-part mix of Hydro Fuel for "seedlings/cuttings 200-400 ppm" (the first stage on the chart I posted above) with every watering now (says on the program, "dirt farmers use with everywatering"), its been about 3 waterings so far. Should I be using the one for week 3 since thats what I'm on? Its 1000-1400, that sounds a bit high, but the percentages of the nutrients are low on the bottle.
I was also thinking that maybe its time to transplant, I'm not sure when to though. The two bigger pots are 6" wide x 7" deep, 1 gallon pots and the other smaller ones are 6" wide x 5" deep. Should I transplant to 3 gallon pots? Or what size pots should do me through the rest of the grow?

1st closet grow - Indica - 400w HPS
Well, the crispy one is looking crispy, except that there are secondaries growing from where the old branches are. The runt, I took out and put under fluorescents, if it lives, it lives, if it dies it dies. The other three are doing really good, still a little droopy, but much more alive now and look bigger everyday.
Actually, I think I have to transplant tomarrow. If I look up the drainage holes, there are white roots starting to become visable. I'm assuming I should transplant ASAP. I'm going to try to find some 3 gal. pots tomarrow, but I only could find 2 gallon and 5 gallon pots today (for the cheap black ones anyways), so I'm thiking I'll go with the 5 gal. Anyone think otherwise, will the plant grow too big with a 5 gal. pot?
What do I have to watch for while transplanting? Any special techniques anyone uses? Should I cut the bottom off the pot or should I take everything out of the pot?

I transplanted 3 of them last night to 3 gal. pots. Guided by Hardon's stress free transplanting FAQ, it worked out great. The plants have already perked up a bit overnight. The only things I did different was that I used Stim-Root No. 2 with .4% IBA instead of the Schultz rooting hormone and a green light so the roots didn't see any light. I read somewhere that plants cannot see the color green, so you can use a green light as the only light source to reduce stress during transplant, this way you can see, but they cannot. I hope it is the correct light, they didnt say anything specific about the green light, just that its green, so I just got the cheapest one I could find.
I am very limited in space, so I cut the bottom off the 4th plant (the crispy one), used the double potting technique that is in the above link and just used a 1 gal. pot underneath. I just cut the very bottom off only, instead of the last inch, I hope it doesn't make too much of a difference...I missed that part. Since is the worst plant, I did it like this to save space and also money on soil, I dont know if its going to live, but if it does, this pot should do me up until sexing, then I will see if its a keeper or not.

Just a quick update...plants seem to be doing fine, they perked up the day after I transplanted, but then didn't perk up any further, the tips of the leaves are curling down a bit, but maybe its just from transplanting. I'm going to switch to feeding them like this : feed, water, water, feed, water, water, etc...
day 28 pics...(the purple isn't there in person, a little bit on old stems, but I think its the camera flash and the lighting). Anyways, I hope the new watering schedule fixes them.

day 33 update...
Two of the plants are over 1 ft. tall, and the other one is a bit smaller. Cant start to flower until after I move on Dec. 1, I hope they dont get too big in that time...I would hate to have to transplant them again.
I think I have been giving the nutes too often without adjusting the pH of the water, so I got a pH test kit (the test drops...I'll get the pH pen sometime after christmas) and some "Bumper Up" and "Bumper Down." The water that comes out of the tap is at the 6.5 - 6.9 range, so I watered with tap water with no nutes (that has sat for 24 hrs.) and the water that ran out of the bottom of the pot is around the 5.0 - 5.4 range. So...what I plan to do is water with only tap water until the pH of the run off water is at 6.5 - 6.9, then continue with the schedule of, water, water, feed...But, this time with the water/nutes mixture adjusted back to 6.5 - 6.9. Hopefully that will solve the problem. What do you think? Good plan?
One thing I have noticed since the first watering with straight tap water is that the nute burn started progressing again in all plants up the fan leaves and into a couple of the tips of the secondary leaves. Should I give them a good flush or should I just continue to water with normal water?

-
1st closet grow - Indica - 400w HPS
Alright, well here they are at day 37...still giving ph'd water only and I'm misting them quite often.
The two big plants are about 16-17 inches and the other one is about 12 inches...the small one was in a 6x5" pot to start and the others were in a 6x7" pot to start. They are growing like crazy almost an inch a day or a little less.
Now, I'm not sure what to do, I was going to switch them to 12/12 on day 40. I am not using nutes right now in order to get the run off's ph back to normal. Should I buy the bloom nutes and start feeding them right after I switch them over or wait until the run off is back to normal and then start feeding? I just need some sort of basic schedule of what to do, I'm kinda lost since I messed up the feeding and then overfed, etc... The doses for the nutes are gonna be another thing, but I guess I'll just do a quarter of what it says on the bottle. What's everyone think?

Im asuming your misting them after the light goes off right? just makin sure..i was gone for the weekend and i needed to mist the top of my soil from one of the plants i transplanted so like a dumbass i had my sister do it and it was obviouse she misted alot more than the soil when i saw it lol..i ended up killing the plant and transplanting one of my more healthier plants..i did the transplant about a hour ago im about to update my grow log in a min ..so yeah dont mist when lights are on unless you want a big stem to smoke  ..

Really? Whats wrong with misting with the lights on? I know of quite a few people who do it. My lights are on 24 hrs. for this grow. I mist the leaves every chance I get, not the soil, the soil stays moist for really long as it is, I only have to water about every 4 days with the 3 gal. pots.
Here's one more pic from day 37 that wouldn't fit in the update I just posted...its the small one (12 inch), she's getting a little left behind since I have to raise the light for the other two every day.

hmm i dunno maybe my light was to close, i moved it up some ..all i know is i came home and my bottom leafs were burnt, i was assuming she sprayed them heavy with the lights on ..and thats what caused it ..i have a experamental plant that is almost as old as my other one and i started to spray it with the lights on today so well see how it works..

Hey indicloset nice documentation there, with the red stems and with the originally deformed growth I think you have a phosphorous deficiency possibly magnesium but I doubt it.

I read somewhere they advised NOT to mist the plant. It said that it actually washed off the some of the trichomes. Whether thats true or not I don't know but why take the risk destroying the lil' babies!!! Good Luck!!!
