Hello Bill :) you're being too kind Bill, honestly love they do grow themselves, I keep my interference with them down to the bear minimum.

So far I am very pleased with this latest batch, I took a few more pics a short while ago. They are now 4 weeks old and I can see the growth in them on a daily basis. At this rate I think the time for pinching and inducing will not be to far away ;)


I had a little day out yesterday, a "booze cruise" to France and Belgium and today I'm really shocked to see all the heated debate on here and Harddons leaving thread :( ........................Oh dear can't leave guys alone for one day without something happening ;)

Anyway I have to get busy with things here now (family dinner to prepare :rolleyes: ) but I'll have a look in later today :)

Your plants look awesome Mand. You're a true technician. Amazing how far they've come in such a short time. Hope they're all girls!!

Thankyou Marc :) To be honest these are my favourite variety for growing, but they are coming on so well I'm quite supprised :)
I'm seriously thinking of pinching in prehaps another weeks time and inducing maybe the following week. I'll just see how they progress and take it from there ;)

not a problem at all...i just went out and bought a video camera and it is suppose to take digital still's so hopefully soon i can learn to use that feature and get a few pix up of 2 strains i have going...one im not sure what it is...was in a mixed package...and the other is a Skunk#1.....winter is is quite near here and im almost ready to flower so hopefully the unknown can keep up with the Skunk in the cool basement......nice hearing from you as well ;).......later

Hello p :) Skunk#1 my favourite for growing, it's a hardy plant that does cope well with lower tempretures ;)
I've always been lead to belive that cooler growrooms during flowering when in their dark periods actually help the flowering due to making the plants believe that a cooler season has arrived.

I'm not sure how accurate that is but it sounds beliveable ;)

Here's a link to the Sensi seed bank, I personally like Skunk#1, beccause they are very nice growers and there also good value, £15 for a pack of 16 seeds. Mind you there not the post potent bud there is but there not too bad ethier ;)
I buy my off a stall at the local Sunday market :)

thanks for link . i might try a few in greenhouse in spring , ive a full space with the 2 strains i'm working on at moment, skunk 1 is a blast from past i remember first time i put some seeds down yield was fantastic compared to what was around at the time.

if you dont mind trading abit of end product maybe we could trade some clones in new year. ive got chronic x silver haze and jack x bubbleberry at moment.

Hmmm space is always a bit of a problem for me Chembob, I really need to get the other room wired up for power or grow a few less ;)

Anyway I just called on to post a couple of pics, I tried to get all the room in but couldn't reach high enough, so my son had to take these for me :o
There five and a half weeks now and you can see I don't have a lot of space to spare.

Mand you are truly my hero. Your grow is unreal. I can't see one leaf that looks like it has even the smallest bit of a problem. Awesome!

Mand I think between your plants, your sex appeal, your seemingly inexhaustable good nature and your obviously positive aura you have effortlessly developed a good size following here on the boards and may just have to change the title of this thread from "just a little journal" to "just a small set of books"!! :eek: !! lol. :D

Marc :) Thankyou but it's the horse poo that does it not me. Honestly Marc start a compost heap and put in it all the vegatable peelings, lawn cuttings, dead plants out the garden, in fact anything that will rot down easily.
To be truthfull love I'm quite good at growing leaves but not so hot at growing the buds ....................enough for me though ;)

Tell you what though Bill my youngest is going to get nagged of me when I catch him. He came in last night after midnight absolutely drunk.
Well I've no problem with that, I've been known to get a little tipsy myself on the very rare occasion :rolleyes: :)
The problem is he had to go to work at 6am this morning and that meant he had to drive his works van, which if he had been pulled over by the police I'm sure he would have been still over the drink/drive limmit.
Anyway He's done a dissapering act on me before I can tell him off about it.
Then again what do I know I'm just nagging him................kids :rolleyes:

Don't know for sure but possibly you just need to let them go a little longer. Anyone that can grow leaves like that can grow buds.

I'm still not sure when to induce them..................sooner or later :confused: ...............I'll see how they go on and then decide ;)

As long as they end up about a metre high then I'll be happy with them :)

Hello Digi :) I flower with a 400 watt HPS love.

I'm not worried about it though, like I say as long as there is enough for me ;)

I've found a pic of some of the buds from the last crop, I'm not absolutely sure but I think those hanging were from 3 or 4 plants (the bigger ones). In total there were 9 big plants and 3 runty ones.
I have to say that the runts didn't produce an awful lot of bud but it's very very potent, one joint really does the trick ;)

I'm glad to see that you're getting into the horse poo game Digi, now I've just got to convert Marc ;)

Ive got some horse fields a few miles from my house....and where there are horses, there is also horse crap. Maybe Ill try it out. Very nice grow mand, keep goin!

Hello Keno :) I've used shop bought compost before but it's much cheaper to use the homemade stuff and it's much better as well ;)


Errrrr I've forgot how old they are now, I'll have to check from my first post on here :o I've just been that busy just lately I haven't had much time for them, just pop in once a day to water them ;)

Anyway I pinched the tops this morning so I'll give them a few days and then switch to 12/12 on the HPS bulb.

Well I've tried to take a few pics but affraid I can't really do close up's, I need a magnifying glass and I've not yet gotten around to getting one :o

I don't know if you can make anything out from these photo's. However when first pinching (topping) I think it is best done with a small pair of nail sisscors, so that you can remove only the very top new growth, I use my nails because I've done it quite a few times before ;)

Whatever you do make sure that nothing is taken off the area were the new stems are going to grow from. You can see them it's were the new sprouts are.
The bits on top of the ballast/transformer thingy are the new growth that has been removed, that's all you have to take off..............nothing more ;)


As for nutrients, I just start of with a good well rotted home made compost and I sometimes add a pinch of Phostogen plant food to the water, thats it really :)

How do you pinch the tops exactly? And what's it do really? Keep the plant low? Cause I really need mine to stay low.

Hello C :) ,It's quite difficult to explain without a decent pic...........

At the very top of you're plant there is the very freshest new growth just bellow the new growth were it joins the main stem thats were you cut it off.
However make sure that the cut is above the diagonal shoots growing from the node bellow ;)
With the main stem cut off all additional growing will come from the two shoots bellow the cut, making two main stems to produce buds.

I've grown with and without pinching (topping) and have found that by having two main budding stems that it does increase the yeild quite a bit ;)


I suppose that it could be used for keeping a plant low, I've never used it for that reason, check this thread out C :) .............................

Mand im want to use a 400HPS and 400MH bulb but im having trouble looking for an

inexpensive light fixture. I guess when working with so much watts you do need a

ballast or can you just go stick those bulbs in a reg socket? Do you recommend

Hello B :) I'm affraid where lights are conerned I'm only know the one I use and to be honest I no next to nothing about that :o

Before I bought it I read and was told that the best combination of lights was a Matal Halide for vegitive growth and an High Pressure Sodium for flowering.
Well I just went to the growshop told them what I wanted and they sold me the set up.
The ballast thingy can take both sets of bulbs, so when I've finished on the vegitive growth I just unscrew the MH bulb and screw in the HPS bulb and start 12/12.

I know the guys on here are always on about different types of lamps so I bet they can help you.

Heres a pic of my ballast thingy, oh, the small box that is with it is a relay switch, which stops the timer from melting.

The set up runs on 400 watts and they are quite exspensive to buy but I think they can be found cheaper if you shop around a little ;)

Mand can you answer me one more question? its the 17th today, and i cant get my light untill the 21st (HPS all the way) but my seeds are germenated, and i have planted them, (only 2 plants) do you thonk they will be ok just in my room, with nothing untill i can get a light?

Hello W :) 4 days till you get the light. Well you have no choice really all I can think of doing is putting them near a window and be prepared for them streching, so you might have to put some sticks in them to help support them.

I'm just worried about the length of day light they will get this time of year, it's going to be less then 12 hours, what effect it will have on them at this age I don't really know ?
You're just going to have to try it for now and as soon as you get the HPS get them under straight away and run on a 18/6 light cycle. An MH would be much better for the vegitive growing (18/6), but sometimes you just have to work with what you have ;)
If the ballast for the HPS can also take a MH bulb then it would be better to get one of those.

Just give it a try W with what you have and see how it turns out, when you do the next grow you will have learned a lot from this one ;)

Hello :) , Well I've got one of my boys to try and get a close up pic of where the stem was pinched.......................it's not very good :o

Anyway you might be able to work out that there is no new growth at the top of the plant and possibly see where the new stems are going to grow off diagonally :)

Looking at the new pics I see the cam is still putting out those moire patterns or whatever.

Took the liberty and googled digital camera + horizontal line and it came up with many hits that talk about something called "horizontal line noise".

Several cameras from various manufacturers began to produce "horizontal line noise" because of faulty firmware. This "phenomenon" as some reports called it, did not happen when these cameras were new, but after some time of use as I understood it.

Couldn't find conclusive info or visual examples of that malfunction - to see if it applied to what your cam is doing - but it did sound as if the problem was something which those manufactures were making efforts to remedy - possibly at no charge. Like a "recall" of sorts.

You may want to try googling that term to see if your camera's make and model shows up. Maybe they just swap yours for a new one.

Didn't have time to find out for sure tho, sorry.

Hello Rezinator :) I think I may have solved the pics problem love :) ......................Marc (MB) suggested that I use the "macro" botton on the side of the camera for better close up's, so I have and they seem much better,...................I always wondered what that button was for :o
Anyway I've took a couple more of were the pinching (topping) was done and you can now see it much better :)

Hello B :) these were taken about 15 mins ago, so they are quite up to date ;). I think that I'll begin inducing flowering in another day or two so I should end up with plants at about 1 metre in height.................thats the height I like to acheive. once I get to know which the males are then I should have a little bit more space in there.

Hello B :) , On my first ever attempt the seeds failed to germinate, I had sent off for them from an advert in a magazine. Not one of them sprouted :( .
On my second grow I grew outdoors and everything went fine, I grew a few mexican stavia and some rudrails/indica both were from sensi seeds.
To say we only have a shortish growing season and not a deal of sunshine (we didn't that year) over here they grew pretty well ;)

In 1998 I bought the lamp for indoor growing and since then I have grown 2 or 3 crops a year. I did have a crop fail a while ago because the light bulbs were just worn out with age ..................http://boards.cannabis.com/showthread.php?t=22341

So I've probably grown somewhere around 17+/- indoor crops over the last 7 years.

The plants will be 7 weeks old this coming weekend. I've swicthed the light cycle to 12/12 today and at this very moment I'm just waiting for the bulb to cool down so that I can change it for the HPS.

So I imagine that if everything keeps going ok, then I should be harvesting this lot around Christmas time ;)
