I think this is really the better strategy. My first plan could lead to serious problems in the summer... I think I must accept heating with 500W for around 6 hours at night in the winter..... Thank you ranger. I take this advise very serious..

As u can see - I started reducing humidity.
Everything running fine ? I think they are a bit too small. Do u think the damaged time switch in the first ten days of flowering giving an extra half an hour at night - could lead to this delay ? What do u think ?

Plants are looking good mami. Are those actual yellow leaves on the Dutch Dragons, or is that some pretty editing?
-
9 x Dutch Dragon - 1 x White Russian - 600W HPS - From Seedling :-D
The yellow leafs come from the 600W HPS Sun :-)
No editing. Camera was fighting against the HPS.
I could not sleep anymore if the were so yellow :-)
Uknow these are my babies... :-)

Yes, some buds are already bigger then my bic. I bought a new one, with a happy smile on it :-D
Will make some comparison shots the next update...
By the way: I got the Hesi Booster today. Anybody any experiences ?
Other Nutes: nearly like the hesi soil scheme (90%)
And they take it without any signs of over fertilizing.
So keep :rastasmoke::rastasmoke::rastasmoke::rastasmoke:

Can't stop thinking about defoliating. I think now it is really too crowdy in the girlscamp..
There is no light coming deeper than the green top shield. Yes it's like a shield ;-)
I read some articles about defoliating. I know it's very controversial. I'm not sure. Damn.. Can't slepp ;-)
Please help me out. Should I try it or not ??

I think some people get a little too overheated about that debate. There is always a trade-off when pruning or thinning any plant, between light penetration, vs light collection. Due to the inverse square law, the light hitting the upper leaves is far stronger than the light hitting lower down, so photosynthetic efficiency is greater in the upper fan leaves. That is a good argument for leaving the upper leaves alone. But a super dense canopy with overlapping fan leaves makes no sense to me. Certainly you can bend them, but they're not recveiving light with the proper incident angle that way. I think a reasonable balance can be struck. My problem is that once I start pruning, its hard to stop. It's OCD or something. I tried hard to never remove upper fan leaves unless they were yellow or damaged. I used weights and twine to hold the branches apart and that helped with the penetration issue without having to over-prune.

9 x Dutch Dragon - 1 x White Russian - 600W HPS - From Seedling :-D
And I confess that just a few days ago I went nuts and pruned a bunch of stuff, probably more than I should have. Some gardeners tend to be "pruners", and that probably describes me. I just have a hard time leaving them alone. I am constantly in need to interact with them in some way.

If you can't uncover enough by folding or tucking the leaves, do what you gotta do. I try to not take any fans, but if need be, they lose a few. I did it to mine and they turned out great. The key to that is do it slowly...don't get carried away. Only take a few at a time and compromise on one's you'd LIKE to take, but don't HAVE to take off.
I even tell them I'm sorry when I do it. ;)

This is the strategy I plan to use the next time around. I don't think I have room (or budget) for a light-mover, but side-lighting seems like the best solution to me.

Damn that sounds good. Oh yea, the plants, they lose some leaves a the time.

I'm a big fan of side & underlighting. Hits bud sites that would otherwise be too shaded to produce.
How it going GB? Thought I'd stop by & say hi, since the guys are picking on me over on OMBs thread. LOL! ;)

Hi Catbuds. Nice to see u back on my thread. Hope you're fine.
Back to my question:
I do not have the problem that light do not reach the whole area.
This Works with the Adjust A Wings Avenger Large very very good.
I think It's too crowdy. On the tops they get alot of light, but maybe after 15 cm deeper in the plants - it's kind of dark.
U know what I mean ?
I plan to do it or not to do it this evening. I am kind of nervous. Maybe without a cause, I will not start dramatic.
Just thin them out ;-) Mmmmmmmm.... hopping around on my chair. don't know - Yes or no... Damn it.
Thank god it's friday. Mary is here with me.
I think I will discuss this one more hour with her :-D

So anybody with bated breath ? Maybe the newbie girl killed this wonderful project ?
Guys - I could never do this. I really love these babies. I think I will have to cry while
cutting them down on harvest day.
So i had bad sleep the last three nights about doing it or doing it not.
So I decided just to do it with one of the dutch dragons.
I was so nervous doing this I forgot to make a photo how she looked before....
Here is her left neighbour:

While starting this action I noticed there i already more bud going down the leafs than I thought.
I took about I would guess 35 percent of the leafs.
Here are the victims:

What do u think ? I am so curious what will happen... Like a Child on X-mas I can't wait :-D

Do u think I should do this way to the others, too ?

Looks good to me GB. Nice work. I think you demonstrated a nice balance to your approach.

So should I do it this kind to all the plants ?????
@Chromophore: By the way - Did your Data Logger arrived yet ?
-
9 x Dutch Dragon - 1 x White Russian - 600W HPS - From Seedling :-D
That does look crowded GB. I might consider doing some gentle thinning on all of them if I were you. You probably are seeing some Chlorosis on the under leaves? I thin my canopies to alleviate that problem myself. My mama plant is due for another "haircut" just for that reason.
Get out the clipper's GB...just be gentle.

OK OMB - I will do it tomorrow. Making a lot of Photos. Maybe they will help other newbies like me ;-)
In such situations - when I don't know doing something or not. I recognize that I am a newb.
(Maybe with good preparation - but still a newbie girl) I simply don't have comparison data.
And I don't like situations like that. But right now I am looking to a photo of day 25 and a photo of day 31
and how should I say - I am really happy everything runs like that :-D

Less than two hours till the babies wake up ;-) Getting nervous again, but with a good felling :-D
Photos of the work comes later...

Wanted to make a lot of Pics - But that was complicated - I had to take the ladies out of the tent.
And then there was no space to make photos. Sorry for that.
But I shot a few ones:

I am not sure if this was the right thing :-(
Hope everything will turn out well.
But the good message is. There is already a lot of bud producing in the field ;-)

Hey girl! Been busy getting all my ducks in a row. Crystal can help with a ton of recipes! She's an herbalist who uses other medicinal herbs for healing & medicating in combination with all sorts of cannabis derived oils & elixers. I recently directed her to another forum that doesn't prohibit the mention of some of these herbs & actually has a sub-forum for them. They also have PMs (a private messaging system). Its a little more breeder oriented & less strict in many ways. I'm actually here to invite you over. MNS. I think Crystal said she googled mr nice guy to actually make it in. Not saying to abandon cann.com. I'd never do that. I'm actually a member of 5 forum boards & find they compliment each other & is a balanced way to broaden your horizons. I occasionally invite people to other forums when I think one would be of interest to them. So, come on over!
-- I applaud your efforts! Great pruning job. Not over done & definitely serves the purpose. I can see it was done with love. Yeah, mj is a robust plant. Often surprising first timers when she quickly fills the available space! I have some more bending , wireing & pruning to finish myself tonight! :)

The White Russian is really producing faster than the Dutch Dragon.
I Bet the Dutch Dragons will follow up the next weeks.
In my opinion there is a lot of budding. What do u think ?

Hope there are some Nerds out there to enjoyâ?¦
So letâ??s do some curve sketching ;-)
Point 1
I tried thinning on one of the dutch dragons. Sorry I called it defoliating in my post. Not sure if this was the right word.
U see the temp at the leaves fall down at point 1 ? Want to know why?
I was sitting nearly an hour in front of the girlscamp thinking about hurting them or not.
At least I did it to one.. It was sad. Had some bad sleep this night ;-) I waited one day, but she seemed to enjoy.
Point 2
Other members confirmed me, that it was kind of crowdy in the camp. And I could go on with some gentle thinning.
So I did it to all. This was Point 2
Point 3
OK and now over to Point 3. Damn this is funky. Now concentrate on the temps at soil level.
They increased around 5 degrees Celsius. This was without more extra heating.
I think more light is coming to the soil. So the soil gets warmer. Even holding this temps at night.
I know this project is on the cooler side, but itâ??s winter here.
And I hate wasting energy, while heating out of the window.
They enjoyed the warmer soil level so much, I decided to try and give them some extra heating even through the day.
They love it. My bad conscience about mother earth but I decided to set the temp to hold at 19 degrees at night
and 23 degrees by day (which means some extra heating from the filament heating.
If there is a next run â?? I will add a second 600 W HPS to get the extra thermal heat.
Everybody should prefer light heat than filament heating or others. Think about ;-)
Damn reading this text is kind of embarrassing. Maybe I was in kind of good mood while I wrote this :rastasmoke::rastasmoke::rastasmoke:
