i notice you say you use home made compost... what would you say are the best home made compost recipe? i know you told me to use the 14-14-14 fertelizer, which i will be doing on my other plants when i start growing them, but for the most part if i get more seeds to grow i would like atleast half of them to be organic. other then this imma ger a worm composting bin and use that for all my plants, weather or not im going to have ferts in the soil.Quote:

Cover that with breatheable black shade cloth. Forget about them for a year. Ta Da! Compost.
The only reason I was using compost for my starts is I didn't want to buy dirt. I'm lazy and cheap. I was using old rubbish soil from my long season holes, and I needed something with some fresh nutrients to add.
I usually save the compost for long season. I consider it very valuable and a bitch to make....so you don't want to waste it on short season.
Worm castings are great for plants. If it works...big if... you have no need for compost...but let's get real.
There's a logical progression here. No offense, but you have much to learn grasshopper.
You're just starting to play with the herb. Make a bunch of seeds. Focus on the plant. You have yet to see cutworms, snails, slugs, rats, and birds. Also lets not forget Bud rot, and White Powder mold. Add that to Females, Males and lets not forget the dreaded hermie. Top it off with all the Oahu Rip-offs, and you have a hard road ahead.
This year write off as a learning experience. Expect nothing. Get the basics down. Shit, for $30.00 you can buy just what your plant needs. And your plants will grow as well as mine...maybe better. Remember, Rome wasn't built in a day.
When pops says "Sure, you can tear up the lawn to put your plants in" THEN you want to look into composting and a worm bin. If your looking at a small scale grow, compost and a worm bin is redundant. You don't need them. And believe me, it isn't worth the effort. Not yet at least.
I guess if you are throwing dog shit into the mix you probably want to leave it a year but otherwise, a properly constructed and tended compost pile should be complete in 6 - 8 weeks. Piss is also a great additive to any compost pile. The pile needs adequate drainage, periodic aeration, and nitrogen additives from time to time (hence the piss).
Careful with the seed that go in there. They are killed by the composting process so long as you achieve optimum thermophilic composting which generates significant heat. However, you need at least a cubic meter of material to achieve these results. Otherwise, the seeds and pathogens will live on.
I think I need to do something with my composter. I bought one cheap from the city. It has square layers and a loose fitting top. It seems to take forever to compost the stuff I put in it. What are key things that will speed up the composting process to 6-8 weeks.
This is a bit off topic. Hope it's OK oldhaole.
Actually those composters are among the best. Three parts right? Keys to composting are as follows:
1. Get a good balance of green vs. dead matter - think dead leaves vs. fresh cut grass.
2. Make sure you have a nitrogen additive. Like I said, piss works great. I let my kids use is as an out door toilet which greatly pleases my mother in law... You can also buy a compost accelerant but the key ingredient is nitrogen so you may as well use your own.
3. Make sure you have decent drainage. Straw works very well as the first layer but really, so long as it is sitting on dirt and not concrete you will be fine.
4. Add water. You want the material to be the texture of a wet sponge. Not soaked but good and damp. I leave the top off mine when it rains and then flip it afterward.
5. Turn the pile every 10 - 14 days to add oxygen. Add more water and nitrogen accelerant at the same time if needed. Here is where your system is so useful. Take the top section off and place it next to the other two. Now just scope the material out with a fork and place it in the empty container. Repeat until you have removed all the material.
If you get the mix right you will see an explosion in the red worm population. This tells you that the microbial activity in the pile is high which is what you want. Also note that composting will greatly slow or stop during cold periods below 40 degrees F. unless you are dealing with quantity. Also note that if you continue adding new material you will end up with bits of uncomposted stuff in your finished pile. I also use my three tiered system to segment nearly finished compost. I use two sections for the nearly finished / larger pile and one section to collect new stuff.
You can find all kinds of info on line. Run a google search.
Just one more note and then I promise not to hijack this thread further...
Compost anything organic. Do not compost anything that is cooked, as this attracts rodents. You can also throw in egg shells, and recycled cardboard. Egg cartons are a good example but also a lot of packaging these days. I also throw in paper towels, napkins, and kleenex. Now get composting!
BTW I don't recommend that you use compost on your MJ plants, especially if you have an indoor garden. Compost is full of bugs and pathogens that you will then introduce to your garden with the compost. Best to use it in the veggie garden. Outdoor gardens are a different animal. I do wish I could be an outdoor farmer again!
k first off before i reply to that post of yours...
dont you just hate it when your thinking about something all day, and then right when the moment that thought matters you forget all about it?! i swear this whole day i thought of a ton of questions to ask and now that im on the threads i cant remember any of them!!!!!! :stoned:
any ways back to the information part. hahaha
no offence taken bro. i know im new to the game and need a lot to learn, and thats why im reading through threads and asking a lot of questions. im also reading some books on the topic. as for the composting, i understand the whole concept of composting, what i meant by the 'compost recipe' is that are there any certain organic materials to compost that these plants just love?!! dont different things decompose into different types of nutrients for plants? i heard that banana peels and corn husk being composted are good for bud plants? but then again i just heard this, and you know how deceiving word of mouth can be...
as for the rest of the tips you gave me so far, thanks. its helping a lot, and will continue to help me in my future career as a ganja farmer :rastasmoke: bwahahahaha! one of my friends actually around 8 plants too right now, im trying to talk him into teaming up with me. after i told him of a few tips you given me... it looks like this team up just might happen. after this happens, its time to start breeding . hmm, a new question just popped into my head... since i mentioned breeding, i should ask for a few tips on that topic. well for now imma just ask, are there certain traits to look for in diff plants that could be a determining factor of some killa offspring, or is it just the luck of the draw? i just want a general yes or no answer, no need to get into details on this one. if so later on down the line when the breeding actually happens you could probably help walk me through them traits though.
''since i mentioned breeding, i should ask for a few tips on that topic. well for now imma just ask, are there certain traits to look for in diff plants that could be a determining factor of some killa offspring''
If you go back to the 1st thread you will see that he has said that the seeds that are used to the environment gets the biggest bang. But with that season over, this thread is making seeds grown in the environment to grow in the long season, which is ''the'' time to grow/re veg=giant yield. So buy a bag of weed thats been grown on the rock your on and grow em all. Then the long season will give you a plenty when reading, practice and everything else you need to deal with there.
After all that and want to breed your own strain, you pick what you like from each of each male and female that you like and breed them together:thumbsup:and thats that:wtf:
:rasta:
Thanks for the kind words and sorry for jacking the thread. But great info on the compost. I have chickens and lots of straw. I just need more green leafy or grassy stuff. I think I will do the two tier one tier thing too.
I guess once the stuff composts it does not much matter what the recipe was. I believe my chicken poop will make a good addition.
Oh yeah - throw that chicken stuff in the mix. But you will need to be careful with the resulting compost as it will be nitrogen rich. You won't need as much nutes using that. As well, it could easily burn your young plants so you probably don't want to use if for seedlings.

but as for the offspring topic, i heard that just because the mother or father plant were good doesnt neccesarily mean that the new plants grown from it will be good, that it depends on the enviornment, soil, care/work put in to it, stress etc... so hopefully i did good for my first time  i am certain that my plant has minimum stress and in a good enviornment cuz its a really peaceful neighborhood nd theres NOT a lot of disturbances like noises and what not. and the air is clean so im pretty sure that helps!

As far as the ''offspring'' the male genetics and the female genetics are written in stone in the seed. ex. if you grow out a strain that tends to mold easy, this is not what you want in your breeding project. And of course it takes experience and thats where choosing the correct soil, knowing how to grow in your environment and many other knowledgeable task's it takes to grow. Plus you need to learn what to look for in a parent plant. But if i were you id grow out your first plant and watch it grow, you learn a lot just by watching the plant grow. And keep up on this thread. This is the thread that will get ya where ya wanna be, if you read the first thread. Man id be hanging on every post bro:thumbsup:
:rasta:
That is absoutly correct you need to compost poo longer or it can burn your plants. I knew an experienced grower that killed his field by having a truckload of cow or horse poo spread on it.:( The next year of course the field was perfect.
you mentioned the piss for nitrogen... just a quick question, i dont know if youll be able to answer it or not but just in case you can... do the minerals and neutrients we take in also come out in the pee as neutritions for the soil? lets use calcium for example, if i take calcium pills on a normal basis and pee in the compost pile, would that raise the calcium levels in the compost?Quote:

Big, Thank you for the compost tutorial.

Back to Reality. Back to watching paint dry.
The first batch of plants have reached three feet. If my damaged brain recalls right These were planted Sept 29. So they have been growing for seven weeks. These are the first ones I want to get to five feet. They may just make it.
Batch two are the Femmed (I sure as hell hope so) seeds. I did not boost them with lights, On these I put them in small, the sooner they tell me if they are all girls, the sooner I see if this worked. Partner has alot of these seeds, and if they are girls, we can save a trip into the field. We would be able to dump them in and come back to harvest. No real need make an extra trip to male.
Three is a Sativa from B.
Four is Strawberry Kush (not White Russian) from M.
Five is Diesel from M.
Six is an old style HB from B.
All of these have been cracked and planted. Unless I find something real tasty the seed search is done. Next up is breeding.
I love how you are disappointed with anything less than a 5' plant... I ScrOG mine so that they can achieve the equivalent of 4'. It puts that last grow into perspective! No more thread jacking. I promise...
When I wake up I'm looking at the blue sky. "Pretty white clouds, but why the hell am I in the mud? Shit! At least I am not in the hospital like last time. I think I broke my nose. Where the hell is all this blood comming from?? Oh shit it's mine! What the hell just happened?"
As I wobble up my phone chirps. Partner calling. "Where are you?" he asks.
"Hell if I know" I answer. "Why is my quad in the cane?" Follow the tracks, and it becomes obvious.
The day started off easy enough. Partner had a day off and I am doing my usual nothing, Both of us are cracking seeds and we plan a return to the cane fields. Both of us have blown up our legal numbers, and we are looking for places to grow our "overage".
Maui has 35,000 acres of sugar cane. We are the last Island that still grows sugar. When I moved here in the '60 we had 3 mills and more than 60,000 acres in sugar on Maui. Sugar was grown on Kauai, Oahu, Maui, and the Big Island. Now the only sugar plantation left standing is HC&S. That stands for Hawaii Commercial and Sugar, though to us it means Harvest Cannibis and Smoke.
Growing in the cane is real simple. Every eight feet there is a drip line. On either side of the drip they plant 2 ft lenghts of sugar stalks. These lenghts of seed cane root and grow into 25 ft stalks of cane. We were going into the young cane and removing one side of the seed cane to make a hole so we could plant there later.
There is security in the fields, in cute little Ford trucks, but both of us are on Suzuki 500 LT quads, so we can run if necessary. We also know places where we can cross the irrigation ditches and they can't, so escape is not hard. Except when you get hit in the face going 40 by a big old thick wet stalk of cane. Then you wind up on the dirt wondering what the hell happened. That 'll teach me not to wear a helmet.
By this time I hear my partner getting closer. He is following my trail. I also hear a truck motor and that means Security is out there too. Time to get out of Dodge. Start the quad and drive it thru the cane. Right down the row. Let's see them chase me in here. Get thru the field. I can go left or right, chose left. Oh shit! Security is comming down the road! He puts the truck sideways to block the road. I slide the quad behind his truck and I'm gone.
Hit the main road and find the ugliest side road I can find and head up the hill.
Throttle up the hill and wait.
Sure enough the security truck makes the turn and is flying up the hill. Persistant little bastard. They have radios and by this time they are setting up to block us off. Time to bail. Say bye bye. I'm gone. Head further up the hill and I find a field that they are watering. That's what I'm looking for. Little Ford trucks don't do well in mud. I find a giant puddle, fly thru it and find a dry spot. Wait. Call partner. Nothing.
Here he comes! Hits the mud and SPLAT. Watch the truck slow, then sink in. Come on buddy,... floor it!.... Nice try.... Bummer dude, your stuck! To bad so sad. Make my day! See ya!
By now I'm sure the have the top blocked off. Call partner again. he answers. "Where are you? OK I'll find you". Back down the hill. find his tracks and follow.
A few minutes later there he is. "What happened to you?" he says
"Don't ask" I reply. "I put one of those fuckers in the mud. Stuck to the axels"
"Bastard tried ram me" partner says. "I going fix him up".
Oh oh...I've seen this before. Partners quad is sitting on a concrete slab, in a nest of baseball sized stones. Rear wheels are facing down the road. I want to watch, but not so I'll get busted for what will happen next. I nestle in the cane and sure enough a little Ford truck is comming. Partner just sits. Truck pulls up behind partner. Partner put it in third gear, opens the throttle, holds the front brake, and dumps the clutch. The nest of rocks he was sitting on become projectiles. Poor bastard opens the door and there are 50 baseball sized stone comming at him.
After the dust clears, the windshield is busted, the drivers side window is gone, and the truck looks like somebody worked the front over with a sledge hammer. Quads rule....again. Now its time to go home. Fast. But instead of leaving from the top we head to where we stashed the gas, fuel up and go the long way home. Later after dark...like midnight, we go grab the truck and trailer. A fun day done.
My nose ain't broke , but I look like a racoon. We got what needed to be done, done. As soon as these starts are ready, they have homes to go to.
Why in the world are we messing with security? We will be in the cane this year. We need to train them not to chase us. After a trip or two like the last one, HC&S will put out a memo instructing security not to chase motorcycles. They will be instructed to call the cops. And the cops know better than to chase people in the fields. They have wrecked enough cars in there. They already have a policy of not going off road in their blue and whites.
I have not ridden my quad in a long damn time. We keep them stashed for special occasions. And I do have extra plastics so I can change the colors. When we plant we only take one. One of us works, the other cruses the fields, leaving trails, and making sure the other is alone.
In my younger years I planted exclusivly in the fields. In those days we worked on the Lahina side. It was heaven. We must have put 500 patches in and only got ripped off twice. The place was so forgiving I could take seeds, pots, and dirt up in the cane, enough rain fell that I could get my starts going there and just move them to their final homes. But alas, The mill closed down 20 years ago, and that came to a grinding halt.
So we moved to the central valley. Then the fields were not gated, so the batu heads would grid search the fields. That year I lost 90% to rips. Next year was the same. So I gave up.
Now the fields in the central valley are all gated. We have the keys, and the berms are easy to hop, and the rif raf is gone. Once we train security, we should have the place to ourselves. Thirty five thousand acres will be wide open. Prime lowland, dry, hot, and complete with water, is calling me.
This'll be fun.
Another trip into the fields. Holidays are best to do this trip. With the exception of a few hana wai men all the cane fields are deserted. Unlike last Friday, where everybody was working, and we attracted some attention, yesterday we had the place to ourselves. The four security guards on duty were all in their little shack watching football. So they left us alone, and we left them alone.
What we are doing, I call advance work. We stashed gas, opened up areas we will later plant in, and cut fence and built a hidden drop gate, in case an emergency escape is needed. We may never use it, but it gives us one more way out if all others are cut off. Now we are ready to drop starts, just as soon as they are big enough. After we were done we even had time to head down to the beach, and hop into the ocean and wash off the mud. All in all a real easy day.
At the house the starts are doing as well as can be expected. Partner harvested a 5 gallon bucket of time release fertilizer, from work, and I hit everything with it. Lost a corner of a tray of starts when one of the mutts pissed in it.
Of my two biggest plants in the gulch (the ones in the pictures above) one went male, and the other fagged. Needless to sat they are no longer with us.
There is one male left. I'll let it live for another week, The girls in the gulch are just starting to bud, so I will let nature take it's course. If you polinate your girls real young, all the seeds should be at the base of your buds, easy to dig out, but the tops will be unseeded and very smokable.
Before I take the male, I will gather as much pollen as I can in a paper envelope. That goes in the freezer. There it will last long enough to make seeds from the other strains I choose to cross it with. The first cross is with itself. Always. As long as I have the pollen in the freezer, I can pick and choose my crosses. All I need is the male from each strain with the best traits I am looking for. Some of the traits I look for in a male is size, branch development, compound flowers, and overall health. I am working with 6 different strains, so in the end, I should have 36 different crosses. When the buds mature we will taste test all of them....that should be fun.
Then I pick the best of the best. Those will be my long season crop. In theory this should be easy. But it isn't. I simply do not have the room to keep everything from itself. That's one reason I am heading to the cane. I can grow my males there. Then I can bring pollen back and hit the females here.
That way I choose what gets crossed, not the wind.
Last year I did not have enough seeds. I planted what I had, and I lost a lot of potential yield. This year I can start hundreds of seeds, and only put the best in my legal holes. The rest go to the cane. They will be my gravy.
Now some pics....
1) First batch. This is the perfect age to breed. Crack it now, and the seeds will all be mature, easy to get, and it will not screw up the rest of the plant.
2) First batch. This male is the one I let grow. It has a week or less to live.
3) Second batch. These are suppose to be femed. So I put them in real small. I wish they would hurry up and show me if it worked. If it did work we have thousands of these seeds. So it probably didn't :(
4) Third batch. These go under lights every night. Another two weeks and I will put them in my bottom holes.
5) Batches 4,5,and 6. Look at all the time release I dumped on them! In a month or so... out to the fields they go.
ok, first off that was quite an interesting story you posted about the cane fields. A lot of action! haha. any ways, what i would like to know how old are you batches 4, 5, and 6? im kinda guessing about a week or 2? not really too much of importance, its just that i am really getting into these threads of yours and am following along with much interest, and after reading your story i figured you would be planting babies real soon! with that being said, you know how i said i had 2 seeds, well now i got 20 (half of which is og kush and the other half just random, all of which have parents that were grown on this island, from my friend that bred his batch.) long story short, a friend of mine owed me money and decided to pay me off in seeds  . and i am germinating only 1 for now as of this morning, i am tight on money and i dont really have too much supplies to be planting a bunch, (that and i wanna save most of them for when short season is done and i can get them huge)
i just wanna follow along with your planting to get a great yeild. which is why im curious as to how old these new batches of yours are, i want to have as close of timing to yours as possible :hippy: . as for soil... well im taking your tips about planting into the ground vs keeping them contained in pots. I couldnt find the soil brands you gave me, so i jus got some 'black gold' not too sure on wat company it is but thats what its called. as for ferts, i havent got any yet but i will be buying some this weekend, again i did some looking around and couldnt find the same brand that you use, i did however find a 'organic' 14-14-14 time release fertelizer (which is good cause of how i wanna keep my plants all organic) i forgot the name of the brand though.
so i did some sight seeing today in this jungle i call my back yard. i found a better spot then im using now, its a little further away but has way less trees and bushes around which in essence would give my plants less shade during certain hours of the day. the more direct sunlight the better right?! i have already prepped the hole. i dug it about 1 ft deep by 1 ft in diamiter. is this a good enough size hole or not? i cut out all the roots that was sticking out of the hole and pulled out all the weeds in about a 3 ft radius from the hole, again is this good enough or no? i will be dropping some lime in the hole and fill it some what with the soil i got and put in some fertelizer soon as i buy it! (well actually more likely as soon as you tell me if i need to prep the spot better or not) and as soon as this plant of mine will be ready to transplant it will go straight into the hole and filled up to the top with the rest of the soil! you said 5 sets of leafs if im not mistaken right? if theres any tips you can give me it will be much appreciated, i wanna follow you step by step and make the best out of the little i know.
The later batches were dropped in the cracking dish two weeks ago.
As for the seeds you have I would get them going now. You will run into more seeds. Right now you need to get a season under your belt. I've said this before, you will need a lot more seeds than you have. If you want to do it down and dirty, plant 4 plants in that big hole you just dug. Leave the males and females together, rip the fags (sorry if that term offends anybody) and let them do their thing.
Besides, you're screwed if those seeds you got for repayment are duds. The only way to know if your seeds are fresh is if you make them yourself. And you're going to need a lot.
You should be spending a lot more time in your backyard. Oahu has too many people, and there are a lot of rips. If you want to get trees, you're going to want a safe place to put them. Unless they are behind a fence, with a couple of mean dogs guarding them 24/7, some asshole will make a grab for them. Even then, if your not legal, green harvest will take them.
If you're creative, you should be able to pull some smaller ones. And the time to do that is now. Forget about trees. If your not legal you gotta go small. Three foot plants, in pots, southern exposure, blocked sight lines, NO TRAILS and NO PARTNERS!
You have a lot of guava or christmas berry? put them at the base on the south side of the bush. Use clippers to open them to the sun. You can water by going under the tree.
Nobody ever looks up. If you can, put them in the trees. Got blackberry or cactus? Lots of thorns? Put them there. The uglier the better. Hide them where nobody in their right mind would go.
Water at dawn or dusk. Don't ever get spotted hauling water.
Use tabbies instead of boots. Don't scuff or leave mud on any wood or rock you step on. Go under, not through.
And I'm only getting started. All this stuff you must learn by yourself. And it ain't no picnic.
The easy way would be;
a) get legal
b) get your own land
c) get fence
d) get a pack of dogs
e) get very cool neighbors (preferably also growing their own)
Once you do all that you shouldn't have any problems. Until that point, be content with a flock of smaller, easier to hide, plants.
Batch Two... The batch I had high hopes for....the ones that were suppose to be femmed....weren't. I just wasted a month and a few thousand seeds. Epic failure. Wonderfuckinfull.
So batch two is a waste. I could try to salvage something out of this, but it will come back to bite me later. So I pulled them all and dumped the seeds. Garbage in, garbage out.
But....I had batch three waiting in the wings. So my holes were empty for all of a half hour. So all those sweet plans I had....
Never mind.
A stumble, but not fatal. It will jam up my timing though. A big short season will not happen. To bad..so sad...for me. WHAAAAA.
Regrow Sativas need to be put in by Jan 21st. It will take a month to boost the starts, and I can do that in pots, so I don't need to clear and plant the big ones in the holes until the end of Febuary. Or I could sneak two plants (mature 90 day wonders with a small keiki in the same hole to regrow. Take the buds, and the regrow will be left smiling)
Batch one seeds will be ready. Batch three...probably. Four ,five and six...they won't be ready. Not even close. They are going to have to go into pots, or in the cane. Cross that bridge later. They are all good stand alone strains, so I may just make it easy and cross them with themselves.
A friend gave me two....count 'em....two. Jack seeds. Well praise Allah one is a girl, and one is a boy. Like them apples? Something goes right. WTF? Those seeds will be ready and crossed in time for long season. Unless the girl fags...anybody want to put money on that?
Jesus wept. This is starting to get complicated. I'm on a deadline. Why can nothing be easy? So I'll do what I normally do. Throw it all against the wall and see what sticks. Why should this year be any different?
Did I mention it rained today? Probably will have more this week? About time.
I have 90 give or take days to get these keikis up, pull males, into bud. defagged, crossed, seeds matured, harvested, seeds removed, weed tested, best saved, and replanted....Shit....Piece of cake, and I have some beachfront land in Iowa to sell you.
At least there is an outside chance that this log may get intresting. I may have to dig into my bag of tricks to pull this off.
Stay tuned.
my parents ( in there 70's now) always told me plan for the worst.....if you can live with that...everything is else if gravy.
Oldhaole.....I just chuckle about the Quads....I have several of them and have been on my butt several times.....I am too old to crash and burn on them....but it happens.
Good luck ....keep us posted.
I have a breeding project of my own going right now.....But I only have 30 seeds of each strain....we will see how it goes.
I am a sick bastard....like I'm telling you something you already don't know.
I also have too much free time today. So the sick comes bubbling right to the top.
Here's the story...and I'm sticking to it.
I wander out to the gulch. And what do I find??? See for yourself. That damn male is getting more than I ever did. There is no god.
Since I saw it with my own eyes and got the shots, I will be happy to explain what I saw.
Pic 1) What? looks like the old 69 to me.
Pic 2) Back to the conventionary missionary position.
Pic 3) The post coital smoke.
Pic 4) Shit...Looks like he went to sleep. I guess it's universal.
I think there is a fair chance she is hapai. My first cross. In living color. Before they went nuts...I'll leave that alone...I shook off...or should I say "manually released?'' two envelopes of pollen. They are in my freezer.
It appears the male expired right after sex and she ate him...go figure. So I have a hole to fill....don't go there....That's my job. :D

.wow......been awhile since I got to check this. I just love your threads. I make it a point to check in once a week and read. Your a great story teller:thumbsup: and I learn a lot by reading this thread. So far.....no questions. Check back soon. Peace:hippy:
Weez....Yea they have let me get away with more than I expected....Is that a good thing?:wtf:
True.... Thanks for feeding my oversized ego....Is that a good thing?:D
When we last left our hero, he was littering up the board with a totally gratuitious post. What was he thinking??? Maybe a second gratuitious post is needed.
Naaa, I don't think so.****Danger!!!....boring post ahead***
I've been devoting this short season to a few goals
1) I want to get my short season plants to 5 ft. I'm going to win that battle, but lose the war. When you mess around and drop young starts under 24 hr light, you get a lot of males. I could have beat this thru shear numbers, but I didn't have the seeds I needed to do the job.
2) I wanted to put a flock in the fields, to do that I needed the seeds from batch two to be femmed. Total clusterfuck there. Failure.
3) I wanted to breed a larger and better Thai/Skunk cross. I now have people pissed at me because I won't let any of it go. I'm keeping it all for me. From last year I have reconized four different variations. I crossed the two largest similar variations....you saw it in the last post. This is going as well as can be expected. It should fly.
4) I want to grow new strains. Better strains. Notice goals 1-3 all depend on an abundance of seeds. Everything starts there. Everything. Screw this up and I am back to the strains I used last year. And they are cold product.
Sorry. boring post....It get's worse.
Breeding and crossbreeding....I'm sure many of you do this differently, and will get a chuckle off how I am going to mangle this, but it works for me.
In order to construct a good strain, first you have to de construct it. That means you must put a bunch of seeds in from a single plant m/f cross As these seeds grow, you watch them, and note the different phenotypes that occur. Pick the one with all the best traits, cross them, and dump the rest. Do that for a few years....and baby, you got something special.
I did this with batch one. Will it work? We'll see in part 3.
I also have the time I need to do the same thing with batch three. Three is a Sativa all the way, looks like it has potential, but if it doesn't...out it goes. I will cross it with the second Thai/Skunk I have....just to see what happens. There will be no more live sex shows. From now on it's paintbrush time.
The rest get done down and dirty. I'm going to dig into my bag of tricks, and fire these seeds out in 90 days. And I'm going to do it with just nine plants from each batch. I will try to do some selection, but it ain't going to be pretty. All of the last 3 batches, are low yielders, not enough yield to make them houseplants. The last batch is a old style Hash Bud....I gotta keep that alive. I drool just thinking about it.
Well if you slogged through all that bullshit...You're a better man than I Gunga-Din....I know...I mangled that quote too.
Fuck...It's getting cold here. It's 56 at 1 AM....Bet we will break 50 tonight...Just too damn cold.....Us poor Hawaii bastards....don't you all just pity us?
I'm thinking of a new name. It has been suggested by....let's just call him a far holier man than I....that I dump oldhaole, and go by the new moniker
Moneyloving asshole baby....I'm now giving that serious consideration....
I'll get back to you on that.
Best of luck to you in reaching your goals! I'll be popping in to check how things are going along for you and your crossbreeding endeavors.
Dawn has broken for most of the island, but not for us. The sun will take 30 more minutes to come over the hill, and until then I am freezing. Fourty eight...here this AM. In the house!
As soon as the sun finds us I am going to snap some pics of my little seed project.
I start out with 4 inch pots. The spot I picked for them gets sunlight from 10 AM to 5 PM. I leave them alone, after the fifth set of leaves they should declare. Haul the males off to an undiclosed location, Let the girls grow, Kill the fa....I won't say it...hermis....You know what I mean.
I know...this is weed 101. Tell us something we don't know.
OK...timing is everything. Pollinate too early, no seeds, but good weed. Pollinate too late, tons of seeds, and shitty weed. Do the deed when the buds are dime sized, and you get mature seeds at the base of the buds, and good unseeded weed on the top. This becomes important down the road when you are trying to pick the best.
I'm not going to have the time to make deliberate informed crosses, because I am ignorant about these strains. Never grew them before...except the HB...that I've grown before. So this all turns into a learning experience. As I said earlier, throw it all against the wall and see what sticks.
really enjoyed that sugar cane piece.
Thank you. Partner and I enjoyed it too. All except the bleeding part. And the crashing part. And wandering around with two black eyes, and having all my friends laugh, and ask "you tuned you up?" wasn't much fun either. So I should say partner had fun, me...not so much.Quote:

However......story time.
I thought I was done with the seeds. These came to me from a friend of a friend. They fell out of the sky. An experimental batch. I will not identify these, I was asked not to...so they will be called Brand X.
I'm sure the creator is reading this, Great germination rate. @3% duds. Start the clock.
So I now have enough to justify a cane run. Barely.
Now before you get your panties all in a wad...
Oooh good! OH is going to bleed again!!...
We will NOT be going in Friday afternoon. We will go in Sunday evening...when it's quiet. If we do this right, the deed will take an hour, and it won't even be worth a post.
Oh come on now, ya really think we believe that you cant make a post out of this:yeahright:. Il bet more people hit this thread then any iv seen lately, we just luv your paint:rastabanna:drying. Its that :greenthumb: we like to see of yours and im not sure about everyone else, but i come here everyday:thumbsup:Quote:

Of course you're right. If I can scrape a log out of this weak year, just think what I could do, if all...or at least most...of my plants didn't have balls.
Who cares? I'll get what I need out of this season. Any idiot can make seeds. I got it covered.
But I gotta tell you. I'd rather have monsters.
And Thank You for saying all that nice stuff....if you're expecting the zinger...there is none.... Thanks to all that follow this madness....
I'm going to cry....Let's all join hands and sing Kumbya....NOT....
KAABOOM!!!
3 AM....It's here early. First Kona storm of the season. It was pounding Kauai yesterday, so it wasn't unexpected. Brought all the starts in last night. I was ready.
So BFD... you guys have them every other week. But you don't have your plants outside. In a gulch. That occasionally flows. The storm is kinda wide so it will be raining for a while. There actually expecting snow on the Big Island. Welcome to Hawaii. Enjoy the snow.
I'm running on fumes... A couple of post ago Stomper asked what makes a good grow log, My name was mentioned, and that made it totaly inappropriate for me to answer, so I will do so now, burried at the bottom of this thread.
I grow log, to me, is a place I can record events in the grow. If it's entertaining or not, it's for the author. After almost a lifetime of medication, I tend to forget a lot of stuff. What I do, when I do it, and why.
Others can follow along, ask questions, and hopefuly not make the same mistakes twice. All of us are working toward the same goal.
If you are horribly bent, like me, let her rip, Then you get either pathetic, or entertaiment. Gotta take a chance sometime. The worst that can happen is people tell you to STFU. I'm married...Like I haven't heard that before.
End of sermon.
OK here some shitty pics of my shitty plants, before the shitty rain floods the shitty gulch and washes them into my neighbors yard.
1) T/S 1st batch. so far virgin, will use her for breeding other batches.
2) Batch 3. Look how desperate I am to see something without balls. I've got holes double planted, praying for girls.
3) T/S whore. I'm watching seeds swell. Slut.
4) The two middle ones are the Jack seeds. The rest are batch 3. Some girls would be nice. So far, my grow has been like a bad Porno movie...too many balls. Not enough pu....you know what I mean.
5) T/S This is what a 90 day wonder should look like. It's a reject. It didn't have the height I wanted. So I didn't breed it. But you can bet your left nut I will smoke it.
It is now light, so I wandered down to the gulch. A few undelared plant were on the ground, but no flood. Just minor stuff. Easy fixes.
A plan emerges...partner just called. He is rained out. No job today. So today becomes Kief day. We only have like 8 boxes of bottom buds to shake. Now we have a worthless day to do it on....Got lemons?... make lemonade.
"4) The two middle ones are the Jack seeds. The rest are batch 3. Some girls would be nice. So far, my grow has been like a bad Porno movie...too many balls. Not enough pu....you know what I mean."
hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. before i got this post started, i jus had to laugh at this one....
any ways, so i did what u told me. i threw 3 seeds into that hole i dug up.. i had a total of 5 plants, the midget (hope no one feels offended by that term) i was talking about, which is my 1st plant. the og kush that i started 2 weeks ago that i put into a pot about a week n a half ago. and i put the 3 sprouts into that hole. meanwhile, DLNR was snooping around my forest, yes i said my forest. i dont care if it belongs to the state, i claim that territory.LOL! :rasta: they were saying something about suspicious activities in the neighborhood!!! no way are they gonna trace it back to me though. this is like a game of chess, im 2 steps ahead of them, and im doing investigations of my own.. i mean c'mon now this is my neighborhood. do they really think i wont notice a guy that isnt my neighbor walking his dog. or a van that practically has a sign that says 'this is an undercover van' (not literally speaking but you know what i mean dont you?)
anywho... so they did some snooping around in my forest, and they dug up the hole, well atleast i think they found it, it wasnt completely destroyed but it looked like someone was snooping around that general area and i know it was the DLNR. i seen tracks i didnt leave, and the hole looked like, well it didnt look dug up, but the ferts i put ontop was swooshed around. i have a pretty good photographic memory and i know it wasnt how i left it..
well, i think theres still a chance that the seeds are still in there, ive still been watering it everyday, for about a week now, just incase they are late sprouts..
but even if the plants got ripped, the good thing is i still got the midget that should be ready to harvest in maybe 2 weeks, the og kush, which is in a 3rd hiding spot, i check on her eerday (well i hope its a her) shes doin good, and growing pretty fast. damn them ferts are working wonders! and im glad they didnt find everything!
even better i still got 4 seeds, and 10 more on the way that my friend still owes me! if in another week the seeds dont sprout through the soil, then imma put 3 more into the hole. i figure, if DLNR already ripped it, they prolly wont think im dumb enough to use the same hole. well guess what, im so dumb it makes me smart. bwahahahahahahaha! well atleast i hope so.. they havent been around since.....
well actually let me give you a discription of my forest, then ill continue with the DLNR story... starting from my houst theres about 20 yards till the trees start, where the trees start theres a cliff, the cliff goes down about 50 ft, (not a straight drop but pretty steep) and this little valley at the bottom is about 50 yrsd from my side of the cliff to the other side, there are houses on the other side, but theres a lot of trees blocking direct view from my side, so you cant really see the plants from there, i already checked.. at the very top part of the hill on the other side of the valley theres a mantion (sp?) with a ginormous back yard, now you know how i say my forest, well the guy that ownes this house can literally and legally say his forest. on the realz!
any ways back to DLNR topic. with that discription... i havent seen them snooping around my neighborhood since the plants were ripped, about 2 weeks ago, however the mantion i was speaking of has a parking structure that is at the end of his side of the cliff, and there was another UC truck this time about 5 days ago... this is what there saying... "where gonna get this guys, where on to whoever is planting in our forest" LOL. heres what im saying at the same time... "no no no no. im on to you guys, im staying low profile about this shit and doing my own investigations. you wont catch me, like i said.. game of chess, im letting you guys think your on to something. but trust and beleive. im 2 steps ahead!" that was the last time i seen them.
so basic summery. i had 5 plants. some dick head people that work for the state took 3 (good thing i still got 2 and they didnt find those) in a week imma plant 3 more and have 5 again... then the next week imma harvest 1 have 4.... you guys get the picture!
well OH! hows this so far for my first season?! and the learning started... and continues! cant wait till i become pro like you  get giant harvests and look like this :stoned: after i reap my plants. hahaha. well that and i cant wait to get legal too...
again, tips are welcome!! thanks in advanced, and thanks for taking the time to read this boring story of mines!
Of all the officials you DON"T want to mess with DLNR is the worst. They're mostly wanabes.... Guys that did not make the cut to become cops...Cops kinda look down on them. So they have something to prove.
They also have a radio, and a gun, and with one call can bring a world of shit down on your head. DO NOT play games with them.
One of their favorite tricks is waiting at the trailhead, and harassing pig hunters after the hunt. Is that gun legal? let's run the #s. are your dogs licienced? Any chickenshit violation. Some of the smarter ones wander into the forest, because hunters know that trick, and stash the illegal stuff before they emerge. If the area you live in has such a trailhead, that's probably what they are doing. I don't think they give a rats ass about your grow, but you had better be safe, so remember...... its their forest.
That big hole you dug? See? That doesn't work. You can't hide it. Never replant a ripped hole. They will come back, ooooorrrrr they have their own crop in the area.
From all the comotion you describe, there may be something going on in your neighborhood, but It ain't about you. Unless you have some side job going that your not telling us about. That doesn't mean you can't become collateral damage though.
I've already told you this, and proved it to be true. If your not legal, you want to go small. In pots. Very well hidden. No trails. And you're watering too much. If you have strawberry guava growing, you USUALLY have the natural rainfall for weed.
You have a couple of safe spots...with all the rain we just had, forget about them for a week. A plant doesn't need you staring at it to grow. Once it becomes established. Leave it alone!
If you want something to do, safely figure out a way down that cliff and finds great spots you can stash a pot or a plant. Don't get greedy, one here, one there. But remember, there are 10 guys in the houses on the other side of the ridge that have the same ideas as you. Chess anyone?
Crack your seeds in a paper towel. Do your starts in small pots. Just like I do. Protect them until they are big enough to live on their own. Then move them to pots and stash them. Stay away from the forest. Stick to the scrubland. I've already given you that speach.
Once again, when you're ready to do this the right way get legal....never thought I hear myself say that.
If you think a set up like mine is cheap....wrong answer. And it took almost a lifetime to get it to where I want it. But that's the difference between legaly growing on your land, vs not. Too bad Oahu stopped growing sugar. We could have turned you loose there.
Friday we had the first Kona storm of the Winter. As storms go this was minor, but it dropped 5 inches of rain over 48 hours. A great slow rain, perfect.
On a rainy day i have two choises. I can let the wife of my youth boss me around....or....I can bail to my partners house and spend the day making kief...I wonder....
So kief it is.
After long season, you have a lot of bottom buds that just don't meet standards. You also may have a plant or two that just doen't float your boat. So I took that with me too.
You can also, and should shake your leaves. The final product will not be as good, and have more of a green color.
So we shook a half lb or so of crap. Took about 3 hours. The other three were spent sampling product.
Pic 1) the shaker
Pic 2) the days work
Pic 3) quality....white is better...way way better.
Just love the CF Chronicles OH?..like so many I look forward to the next chapter.
As popular as they are with the C.com audience, they appear to be viewed and applauded across the islands. I know that the last time I visited the islands the most repeated phrase that I heard from the locals was ??go haole go?. :D
So as one of thousands?I chant:
go haole go !
go haole go !
go haole go !
Looking forward,
HMR
Just love the CF Chronicles OH?..like so many I look forward to the next chapter.
Thank you....I think. Maybe next Friday, an hour before payday, We'll attack the mill, do some donoughts around the big bosses car, maybe kick his door in, and see how many workers will chase us. Then my partner and I can have a contest to see how many of those workers we can wreck out....one can dream....see.... I've given this some thought. :D
As popular as they are with the C.com audience,
That makes me happy.
they appear to be viewed and applauded across the islands.
That doesn't. Its an island. I would like to keep a low profile....Kinda blew that idea up....Oh well...
Now... about that chant....sorry to be the one to tell you... You missed a few words....Understandable.
It's not Go haole go
It's "Fuckin' go, haole go home". Only real good tippers hear the version you did.
Consider yourself lucky...It's that Aloha spirit you hear so much about.
By the way, there is a taste of the canefield comicals (not a mistake) in Part one. Right at the beginning. The fields are my insurance policy. One should pay off depending on rainfall. Dry year like this one...house paid off, cane sucked wind. Wet years like the one comming up, the cane works, while I fight the mold wars here at the house. So I'm just covering my bases. Once a decade, both pay off. :D Once a decade, neither work. :(
Maybe next year I will do two logs....The cane comicals and a house log. I know guerilla grows are frowned upon here, and it is a very small nitche grow.
So it's not like you will learn anything....but it could be a rush. It could also be horribly boring.
The donor of my last batch of seeds will be curious, I'll keep a breeder here, but the rest go to the cane. I also have some Diesel starts with no place to go too either. So there's a good chance there will be a small scale cane comical this short season...stick with it.
:cool:Sticking.
