Dropped the screen on today.

Your screen needs to be about 3" lower,....Quote:

You want to expose all those nodes that aren't getting light, and provide a medium to train stretch while the plant does it's thing! :rastasmoke:
I have a plan in mind for how I want to train the screen. It might not be traditional, but it all looks good in my mind. :smokin:
There is still going to be a couple weeks of training until I flip to 12/12. We shall see how this works out for me.
I am with CWS in how the screen should be placed but quite interested in the results you get from how you have placed it.
Ahhh,.... I thought you had already kicked the lights. :stoned:Quote:

Yeah I plan on leaving some room for training when I flip the switch. I am not going to leave a whole lot of room, because everything I've read says this strain does not stretch much.
Also it is hard to tell from the pics, but that screen is only 9" above the tub. Any less and it would be a pita to get my hands under there to train.
I just seen a solution to my clear see through lids. nice pics btw.
may i ask what material the silver is on top of your lids.???
Just took ten cuttings!
This is my first time cloning so wish me luck.
d0tc0m,
It is foil tape, and then panda film on top. I use the panda film because foils can create hot spots.
Forgot to turn on the flash for these pics. :(
Just went and checked on the clones. Man was I surprised to find that all the ones that were bent over (From their previous growth and where I cut them.) are now standing straight and tall. :D
Was not expecting this to happen over night.
The first pic is from when they went it the cloner last night.
The second pic is from just moments ago.
Been pretty mellow, just training the new growth under and out.
Every other day I trim just a little bit of the unwanted under growth. Looks like I'll probably be flippin' the switch in about a week.
The clones are still looking good. I think they have actually grown a little since they were cut. :stoned:
She's pretty thick! :hippy:
PS, I like what you did with your hood!
I just have a fan blowing across the bare bulb and an exhaust tube taped to the other end of mine :o It's UBER GEHTTO!!! :(
Thanks! :D
I enjoy tinkering around and saving money.
Where'd you get the glass and how'd you mount it? I've got 2 reflectors I'd like to try and cool.
I see how you did the backing,... And I'm brewing an idea on how to get the fittings I will need given my situation.
P.S.
Thanks for the inspiration! :D :hippy:
The glass you can get at any window glass store. They will cut it to your dimensions and should cost around $10-$15.
To hang the glass I use four L-brackets attached to the reflector. Then I slide a piece of rubber hose over the bracket where the glass will be.
That's it! Cheap and simple
Yesterday I flushed and changed the reservoir to flowering nutrients.
Lights went out at 10:00a.m. on Wednesday the 29th, and come back on tonight at 07:00p.m.. That's 33 hours of darkness.
The Soup:
- 5 ml/gal Grow
- 2.5 ml/gal Micro
- 15 ml/gal Bloom
- 5 ml/gal CalMag+ (I was not going to use this during flowering because of the Bud Candy, but forgot and now it's in there.)
- 5 ml/gal Bud Candy
- 2.5 ml/gal Pro-Silicate
- 1 tsp/5gal Sub-Culture B
PPM = 1100 (should have been around 900, but the CalMag+ is in there.)
First two pics are from before and after their training session, just before lights out.
The last two are of the root zone. The staining and a little sludge is from when I was using Liquid Karma. (Don't think I will be using it again.)
:hippy:
This is a very good grow tikiroom. Hope you have lovely flowers from her :hippy:
Thanks for the compliment. :D
Also many many thanks for the best wishes on getting "lovely flowers".
I am sooo ready to hopefully see some buds forming. :weedpoke:
As canni said, she sure is thick!
Last night she got her last training session. All growth is going to be allowed to grow up through the screen from here on out.
I also added 5ml/gal of Big Bud to the reservoir.
PPM = 1000
On a side note, all but one of the clones have rooted. :D
I am surprised, because I didn't use any rooting hormone.

Emmie
I have found that it helps to bend the stem as close to a 90 degree as possible when placing under the screen. Trying to get the stem parallel to the screen.
Also you will be spending some time tucking fan leaves under to expose all the potential bud sites.
Last night she started to show some nice pistils. It's a Girl!
:woohoo: :giggity:
Awsome:thumbsup::thumbsup:Quote:

I always thought you had to poke the head of the plant through the screen..smh, shows what I know
thanks homie
Hennessy1414,
This is still my first time with scrog. The way I have trained this girl is the way i think it should be. I already know from the experience so far, that I will be training the next one a little different.
Beautiful setup. Everything is so clean and nicely assembled.
Just a quick note on beneficial bacteria. If you're not using RO water with the bacteria there's a chance you may be killing the bacteria before they're given a chance to multiply, depending on how much chlorine or chloramine is in your local water supply. Apparantly just 1 ppm of chorine is enough to exterminate most pathogens.
Like I said I love your setup. How does that bucket outside the tent work? All those hoses and pumps coming out of it look cool but I wish I had a clue how it works. How do you change your rez?
Thanks and looking forward to seeing how things unfold. As it happens I am very interested in Barney's seeds and plan on getting some soon. I think your thread will help me decide.
Thanks for the kind words. :DQuote:

One is at the height where I want the water level to be. The other one is at the bottom with a shutoff valve attached.
When running the system I keep the bottom valve closed. The nutrient solution is pumped into the reservoir until it fills up, and then it starts recirculating back to my lower res.
I also have two shutoff valves at the pump. One goes to the main reservoir, and the other to an open hose. In normal operation the open hose valve is closed and the reservoir valve is open.
When I want to change the nutrient solution, I first shut the valve to the reservoir at the pump. Open the valve to the hose.(This hose is put into a bucket.) Last I open the valve at the bottom of the main reservoir.
The higher res drains down to the lower res, and is pumped out to my extra bucket.
Then it's just a matter of dumping that bucket down the drain.
I hope that makes sense........
Things have been going pretty smoothly this past week. [Knocks on wood]
She is currently drinking about a gallon a day. :glugglug:
The new growth that is coming in no longer has that weird coloration. I guess she just finally outgrew it.
On this past Wednesday I added 1 ml/gal of Thrive Alive B1 to the reservoir. Still maintaining ppm around 1000.
That's about it, and now for the pics. (Here pretty soon I'll be able to say here's the bud porn!!)
These were taken just before lights on today.
Here's a pic of the three clones I kept. Obviously the center one is going to be trained for the next run.
The other two are going to be transplanted into soil, and then from there one will be chosen to be a mother.
.
I think I got most of that :D thanks for the detailed explanation. I run a similar system but much more barbaric. Lovin the power of machinery though hehe.
Just tried some Chocolope for the first time, and I must say it's very nice. :stoned::S5::stoned:
Last night my water pump sprung a small leak, and I do mean small. A drop every few seconds.
Luckily I have a backup pump. :D
It will get switched out this afternoon.
Disaster averted.
Great GROW tiki,.....
sry bought the 1st grow but WINNERS NEVER QUIT QUITTERS NEVER WIN.... glad to see you went at it again and looks like great success...
i was curious the hydro store i goto HTGSUPPLY in shrewsbury,ma was mentioning to me this new line Cutting Edge Solutions
said great for beginners since there is no ph adjusting is that true..?? and it produccesss great quality
i see you use it and was wondering your review.. compared to foxfarm or general hydroponics.. i plan on using a ebb n gro set up i already have the whole hydro ff nutrient line up including the chaching, beastie blooms, and open sesame...would it be worth switching it all up already spend $$ on the FF but heard FF has alot of ph fluctuation in hydro... ANy advice be great
Hi RIpatient7,
Thanks for stopping by and taking a look. It sure has been a huge learning experience so far, and I haven't even made it to a harvest yet.
As far as the Cutting Edge Solutions nutrients, yes it does have ph fluctuations. It does not correct your initial ph either. You have to mix nutes and then adjust to desired ph. It also makes the water look like a really dark Kool-Aid. :wtf:
This plant seems to like it, but I am not completely convinced.
I have not tried FoxFarms nor General Hydroponics, but I am trying out Advanced Nutrients on my clone for this next run. The ph with the Advanced has been really steady so far.
If any of the veterans around have used those nutrients and would like to give their two cents feel free to reply here, I don't mind. :hippy:
Best of luck and happy growing to ya.

GaGrown,
I have been using a venturi that I made to get more dissolved oxygen in the water. It has been working great!
As far as lowering the res to 58*F I have found that it is to hard to maintain without a water chiller.
The res stays right around 70*F, and with the use of beneficial bacteria and the venturi she has been thriving.
That's great! I just thought I would mention it,cause that is the norm for most operating res. tanks. Since you have it under control.. Adding the oxygen to the water at that temp. will make it harder to uptake the added oxygen,by the roots.. Lookin' good,My Brutha!Quote:

i could only wish my plants could look as healthy as yours tiki!!!
your garden looks great:thumbsup:
Thanks SoHigh420
wow, very impressive demonstration of SCROG. I'd like to try this but a little hesitant as i'm inexperienced. I'll probably top to get 4 cola's instead this round, but maybe next time i'll try something like what you got!
