The one I killed was RIDDLED at the nodes, a few even had multiple bananas. He may not consider it a problem, but I do. I can't believe he pawns it off as a "trait" of the plant. I like Franco a bunch too, but he loses a few cool points from me here.
-
step right up to see irydyum's GHSco.-all orgainic-giant tree extraviganza w/ a twist
Yeah I think Franco's a good guy, he takes a lot of shit for being a GHS grower. I just find it strange that the 'King of Cannabis' doesn't even sell regular seeds :wtf: Oh well, I don't want to start the same GHS bashing that's already all over the net. I think their products are OK, great for a noob, and many people have had success with them (including myself). The old saying goes, don't put all your eggs in one basket, and I find this to be so fitting regarding seedbanks and breeders. Also the one that goes 'life is like a box of chocolates...' :D
-
step right up to see irydyum's GHSco.-all orgainic-giant tree extraviganza w/ a twist
the problem is that we are PAYING FOR GENETICS, NOT BEANS! that's why beans cost so freaking much. and apparently the breeders have a problem releasing males of their plants. i love how it's in the growers best interest to have only fem'd plants. what the fuck ever!
20-30% hermie is not acceptable at any rate! PERIOD! that's like saying one out of three or four cars will be worthless in a month after you buy it. sorry, but those are not good odds.
i'm not bashing greenhouse specifically, although this case does pertain to them.
we are paying for gentics, so if the genetics aren't right then why do we send them our money? looks like some querkle and jilly bean in the near future!

How do you get the light so close? If I'm any closer than 14" my widow starts to light bleach. I'm running a 400W in a cool tube.
-
step right up to see irydyum's GHSco.-all orgainic-giant tree extraviganza w/ a twist
I did see a little tiny bit of bleaching in the White Widow I have, I'm just not all that concerned with it. It wasn't much and it doesn't seem to have done much harm.
The AMS grew into the HPS and was about 4 inches from it, I did manage to burn a couple leaves on that one, but I just raised the light a touch, and cut the burned leaves off.
I don't know how I keep it that close, most of the tops are in the 8-10" range from lights. Open reflectors. Temps at the canopy peak at about 82-83. 2 oscillating fans. Keep in mind these plants are pushing 5 feet tall also, I think larger plants are a little harder to hurt, in my experience.

My widow is the one that seems to be touchy. My sensi star and power kush are just fine with it a little closer.... Your plants are looking very nice. Might have to try out Biobizz on the next run.

Very impressive grow. What do the bottoms look like? You going to stage harvest them or take "em all?
Are your hermies pollen fertile? I've seen some strains over here that will just throw a stamen of two but the pollen is sterile. When you see three or four stamens per top it is time to take the plant. Never had a seed.

I couldn't say yet if it's sterile or fertile, just scary. The Trainwreck that I chopped was showing multiple stamens at some nodes, hence the murder. The other TW and the AMS that have shown has been very few and far between. I'll pray that it's sterile, or that if it does pollinate that it is limited damage.
I'm not sure yet about partial/full harvest either. That is kind of going to depend on how these strains mature. This is my first run with all of these and I'm less than optimistic about all of them but the Church. There seems to be something special about that one.
On a funny side note, bought a sack yesterday, and it looked and smelled wonderful. Closer inspection revealed that the nuggets had dried up little male flowers on em. Not a bunch, just a couple here and there. When it rains it pours I guess. Maybe someone is trying to tell me something.:wtf:

Just snapped off some pics of the ladies today before lights on and figured I would share them. Not much to say, haven't seen anymore male flowers lurking, they are probably all buried in buds with my luck. Anyway, here they are.
1. Garden b4 lights on
2. AMS Cola
3. Trainwreck bud
4. Church macro
5. Giant AMS Cola

I agree about the beans. Never used any hermie beans that I have produced, although some that are less fortunate may want them:D
They are 5 gal squares, my preference. Used to use 3 gallon rounds in flower, but always ended up rootbound too early.

Are you with growing co2? Plants look awesome :smokin:
-
step right up to see irydyum's GHSco.-all orgainic-giant tree extraviganza w/ a twist
Negative on co2. I have to keep my exhaust on at all times to keep temps under control, so it would be a moot point. Planning on getting air cooled hoods to deal with heat in the near future tho.
-
step right up to see irydyum's GHSco.-all orgainic-giant tree extraviganza w/ a twist
Ever think about using some A/C? That's where its at, takes around 3,500btu's to cool a 1,000w, and probably a lot less when its air cooled. There is a problem with running one in a sealed room though. I basically had two options, I could take option A and buy a thousand dollar split a/c unit(not an option at all for me) or I could fabricate an intake to the intake side of a cheap, used a/c unit so I could use external air to cool the a/c. It's pulling in cold air from outside and cooling the a/c really well, the exhaust is vented into the basement, the compressor can pretty much stay running contstantly lol. It was as simple as taping a dish washing container 12''x12'' plastic tote to the a/c, and cutting a 6'' hole for ducting and installing a flange. I bought another used a/c unit for when this one takes a dump, i figure it's only a matter of time running constantly 12hrs a day.
-
step right up to see irydyum's GHSco.-all orgainic-giant tree extraviganza w/ a twist
I have looked into a/c. I don't have any windows or anything tho so I was thinking one of the portable type. I suppose my only concern is if I air cool my lights and put a/c money into another light, would it be energy better spent?
I'm kinda on the fence with it as of now, summer will probably go ahead and answer the dilemma for me though. I suppose ideally I would have both, it's just not an option at the moment.
One step at a time someone wiser than me once said.

I'm no expert by any means, haha, but I think it would have to do with you're room size and current wattage. I've ran 2,000w in a 900 cubic foot room, air cooled with a couple tiny leaks coming from the hoods(just duct tape sealed) and the temps wanted to hit 86-87deg's, thats with 700cfm's blowing through the two hoods. I know 86 is ideal with full co2 enrichment, but I like my room to be a little cooler than that. This was in a sealed room with co2 in a basement where the room was normally 60 degrees with nothing plugged in.
The problem I ran into is that it seems best to lower the co2 level close to whats in the air normally during the last couple weeks of flowering as it will prevent the plants from ripening. So that really throws a curve ball in there when you have strains finishing every month or less. lol
If you don't have any windows you'll need to vent the intake and exhaust from the portable a/c outside of the room. Depending on you're room size and desired wattage you might not even need a/c w/co2 around 86 degrees.
Hope I'm not coming off as some kind of grow consultant, just trying to shoot the shit bro :stoned:

I'm pretty secure in what I do, no harm done here. If I didn't do some listening I wouldn't be where I am. Any time good info can hit my log, I'm all about it. I don't care what it's about. You wanna come here and vent, shoot the shit, tell a joke, feel free. It's all good as far as I'm concerned.
If I wasn't running constant exhaust my temps would probably be more in the 90's range. As it is I usually hit a high around 83 so I'm pushing the envelope all the time. Ideally co2 will be in the future, so I'll store all the input for sure.

cool man, I can vent all day about heat issues, now that I finally have them under control, haha. I was lucky enough to pick up my 11,000btu A/C for $100 and modify it for the intake pipe for less than 10 bucks.
I'm curious as to what nutes you're using, right now im just using floranova and some calmag, but I'm considering a switch to one of the humboldt lines.
-
step right up to see irydyum's GHSco.-all orgainic-giant tree extraviganza w/ a twist
Early veg, I usually use Maxicrop, 2 or 3 doses, then I switch to the biobizz line. BioGrow, BioBloom, and TopMaxx. I typically keep with the manufacturers schedule except I double up on feedings from week 3 thru week 5 of flower, then I cut nutes all together in week 6. They recommend feeding through harvest but it seems a waste to me.
I'm sure there are better lines out there, but BioBizz has been so easy to use that I don't want to switch, right now:D I typically use their All Mix soil too, but it wasn't available at my local store since I moved, so I switched to Canna soil. It has been holding up just as well. It's prefortified with guano and lime and all the goodies.
It just seems really user friendly to me. I started out with FoxFarm soil and nutes and had ph issues and lockouts all the time, switched on a recommendation from someone about BioBizz and haven't looked back.

For anyone following along, 7 weeks down, 2 to go. These are going to make it to day 62, which by my gorilla math puts us at one day shy of 9 weeks for flowering. These pics are day 48, and special shout out for the dude in the background of a couple:thumbsup: Been great to have you along for the ride! Week 7 and I'm still shooting fresh white pistils all over the place and some of the buds are foxtailing like crazy. Trichs are mostly cloudy white with a sprinkling of clears, no amber yet to speak of. Plan on feeding once more, then flush till the end. Also in about a week I'll be stripping off the majority of the fan leaves to let light penetrate and hopefully improve the flush. Figuring less leaf material will equate to less water pulled up, thus more effective flush? If anyone cares to chime in feel free.
Onward with the pictures.

It's day 52 and I took small samples from some of the colas to look at under the 60x-100x lens. Tiny samples, about a mm sliver. Most of the close ups revealed at least one all the way to 6 amber trichs. The only one that didn't show any was the white widow, and shes just on her own program since day one.
I'm still sticking to my original window of 62ish days to harvest. I don't like to pass out too hard from my herb. I'll get some more pics up likely later today or tomorrow.

I hear what you say about ''I don't like to pass out too hard from my herb''. My N.L#5 was great on my first harvest. Had a great high without the droopy eyes. The thing is, i smoked till i got that way anyway lol. Man that Church with ''dude'' in it looks killer man. The buds are all nice size and looks so green:hippy:.

Church got cut at day 53, it was looking too good to pass up. Sprinkling of amber in the trichs and pistils were almost all died back. Showed a hint of purple on the underside of the leaves too. Still have the other 2 ams, the trainwreck and the white widow, but the widow may come down next. It's been a sort of mutant since day 1 and it's taking up more light than it's worth. It just didn't fill in right. That's the price of growing only one representative bean from a strain.
Anyways, here's some pics of the church, i'm so excited to smoke it. May get lucky enough to sample some tomorrow if it's dry enough.
