(aquanauts) First bagseed grow!
Just wanted to second what BickeyBammer said about the Coco. One of the advantages of growing in coco is that it is much harder to over water than in regular soil. If you read the bumf on the back of the bag it says that even when wet it maintains 23% air. Like he said, treat coco as hydroponics.
edit : also as far as I am being told, this applies to PH aswell. I have been advised to keep my PH between 5.8 and 6.5. Which is why I don't like watering with my 7.5 tap water. The people telling me this are people I know and I have seen and tasted the results they get.
Good idea adding "in coco" in your sig... I think I may steal this idea.

@PhatJay - Ahh... okay thats good to know. Thanks!
Day 11 - AM - Veg
- Made new nutrient solution with tap water as I can't get CalMag until later this coming week.
- Watered this morning (trying new daily water regime)
Hopefully using the tap water will make the ladies a little happier. My theory is my RO/DI water I was using had little or no Ca/Mg in it. So using tap water until I can get some CalMag.

Day 13 - AM - Veg
- Watered and upped the dosage of my nutes to 2.5ml/46oz
- Noticed the edges of my leaves are sorta curled up? Whats up with that?

Do you have a fan circulating air around the grow room? (in one of the pics in your 1st post it looks like you have one in the background). The curling right at the edges of the leaves can be a sign of transpiring. Not sure about the curling of the whole leaf. I had some curling right at the edges of some of my leaves, improving air circulation seems to have helped.

You used the word "transpiring" like it was a negative thing. Without transpiration the plants would be dead NOW.
The curling is probably a cal/mag def. sign IMO.

@ForgetClassC - The CFL's are for when my HPS goes up so I can supp some blue light. And the main light I'm using right now to veg is a 150w MH @ 6700k. Seems to be working pretty good so far.
@PhatJay - Yea I got a tower osculating fan that's always on low. I'll try to turn it up a little more. Thanks!

Well according to that ultimate growing video, curling up at the very edges of leaves happens when the leaves are too warm and are having to excessively transpire to cool down. I know a plant has to transpire to live. I am talking about that little "lip" on the edge of the leaves, not the curling of the whole leaf.

Day 15 - AM - Veg
- Watered this morning with 2.5ml/AnB nute mix + 1 Drop of superthrive/gallon
- Lots of new growth, especially in 1 plant.
- Noticed one plant had brown spots on the leaves. Is this signs of CalMag deficiency?
- Noticed roots sticking out the bottom of the Solo cups, will transplant tonight.

Whe you repot/transplant it's a good idea to get some pebbles/rocks/stones in the bottom of your pot. Coco is so fine, that it has a tendency to run out of the holes in the bottom of your pot when watering.

That's a great idea! I have that problem with my Solo cups. I'll put a layer of perlite in the bottom of the new pots they get transplanted into.

Because perlite holds water, that might be a bad idea. I would go with pebbles, they don't absorb water and they cannot do your plants any harm (unless you throw them at them).

Day 17 - AM - Veg
- Transplanted a few days ago and everything seems to be going well.
- One plant still has brown spots spreading around.
- Been watering everyday with nutes.
- Also noticed the plants have a slight skunky smell.

They look nice but one thing to remember is never have water sitting at the bottom of the pot that creates root rot and alot of other problems... Just a heads up:greenthumb
O ya and Phatjay i don't know how pearlite holds water when it is used to make the soil better for irrigation.
I use a 40/60 mix (pearlite 40%) so if i ever had to flush i can do it no prob:

My bad, I havn't used perlite (thought it held water) :i feel stupid:, I just knew pebbles/stones were OK and concerned that my advice might hinder instead of help if the wrong thing was used. Thanks for putting me right. :)
Looking good aquanaut, those babies are about the same size my cuttings were when I got and potted them. I started with around 200ml water per plant and after around 4 days I started watering them till I got runoff. I was feeding them 2 days on 1 day off, with canna start for the 1st 14 days. Then I switched to Cannazyme, Hydroveg A, Hydroveg B and Roots Accelurator.
-
(aquanauts) First bagseed grow!
We are all here to learn
pearlite has helped me alot that's why I guess I have some knowledge on it, I would recommend everyone to use it. I've never used coco but heard/read great things about it in the Veg cycle although I've read that it makes airy buds during the flowering cycle.
I am using Pro-mix which contains 10% pearlite and I still mix more into it
Anyways keep up the good work aqua everything looks fine, read alot and look at other ppls threads as there are tips and tricks that will help make this journey easier for the ladies.

(aquanauts) First bagseed grow!
they are looking awesome now aquanaut!!!
just curious on how big those pots are.. because with coco its a good idea to go from the party cups to the 1 gal pots because if you go to big ive noticed that the roots will stay in the middle of the pot and they wont spread to the bottom or the outside.. the bottom of the coco will remain moist and same with the side .. it can cause mold and other bad stuff to happen.. i think if you went to a 2 gal pot you will be ok but i think if your at 3 gal then you MIGHT run into some problems... also next time because you transplant let the coco dry a little and pull the whole root ball out and make sure its a nice root ball that is formed and not roots that are stretching to see how fall down they can go.. :hippy:
also when you water ... water till a little run off and let all the extra water drip out this will let the coco stay at a perfect moisture .. another good idea is to try a 50/50 perlite coco mix
-
(aquanauts) First bagseed grow!
Thanks for all the feedback guys.
Yea I think for my next grow I'll start the seedlings out in the square pots I have the new seedlings in now. And then transplant into the 3gal pots you see above.
Also next time I was thinking of 20~30% perlite mix into the coco. Just seems like a good idea.

- No watering today, it's really moist still.
- Plant on the left is growing insanely fast.
- Plant on right, is so so- it's the one with the brown spots.
- Seedlings looking okay, they were the smallest of the bagseed.
- 1 seedling looks mutated... ill name him the hulk.

- Another day
- Watered today with nutes and 1ml of CalMag+
- There is definitely a lemony-skunky smell starting to permeate.
- Also debating on when I should do the switch to my HPS.
- Forgot to note I'm using my 150w MH + three 23w 6500k CFL's. Need more light!

That's what I loved about vegging for the 1st time. The plants grew so fast, there was something new to look at every other day. Once you get to flower they seem to slow down and grow in spurts (well my ladies anyway).
You babes are looking very healthy mate, how long are you planning to veg? and do you still intend to do some LST'ing? I chickened out of pruning, which I think is going to affect the size of my harvest. I have buds all over my plants all the way down to the base. Next time I am going to at least prune the bottom foot of my plants, so they can concentrate their efforts on making the main cola and higher buds fatter.
-

looks like you got it down now!!!
-
(aquanauts) First bagseed grow!
Your plants look amazing and if you were at all interested in LST'ing it would be great to do right about now. Ofcoarse some have LST'd even in flower. You interested in strapping that girl down? Mine looks amazing in its first week of flower:thumbsup:
-
(aquanauts) First bagseed grow!
2.7 ml/500ml for young plants?
1.5ml/500ml for seedlings?
What are you basing your measurements on?
-
(aquanauts) First bagseed grow!
@Phat - Yea I think I'm chicekning out on LST'ing for my first time, maybe next. I'm just afraid to LST it so close to flowering. Don't want to stress out the plants and make hermies =[
@bickeybammer - Thanks! Took some fiddling and getting over new grow syndrome and just let thme grow. :hippy:
@jtsik330 - Won't LST'ing during flower cause stress? I do plan on LST'ing one of these days... just so unsure about it since its my first grow.
@sarah - I'm basing all of my nute dosage from the Canna grow guide. I'm not so sure if it's too strong or not, but my plants sure don't seem to mind. Except this one seedling who is growing really strangley.

CORRECTION!: My water container is 1.36L (a V8 Splash juice container). I punched in 1.36 liters into the Canna caclulator and it gave me the same results. They must be rounding to the nearest Liter.
Day 23 - AM - Veg
- Watered this morning with nutes @ 2.8ml / 1.36L
- Seedlings were watered with nutes @ 1.4ml / 1.36L
- I think I'll switch to flowering on Sunday so I can take a watch over my new HPS system!
So instead of going with a 250w HPS I got a screaming deal on a 400w HPS digital system + Cooltube! Heat may be an issue and I may have to increase my ventilation. I'm also in the middle of trying to build my own carbon scrubber. I may break down and just order one :(
The one on the left is growing at a real fast pace, whereas the one on the right is so-so.

after reading through your thread the only thing i would suggest is mychorizzea for the coco....your roots will have explosive growth....more roots=more nutrient uptake=more buds:thumbsup:

that sounds more like AN's Voodoo Juice, it would be ok to use with....mychorizzea is a beneficial bacteria that roots use to help nutrient uptake...there are several brands...i think GH calls theirs sub-culture...AN's is pirhana and tarantula...i have heard of Great White....i use roots organics blue/green.
use it all alone and no nutrients for at least 3 days after applying....plain water is ok if the plants need it....do this every 2 weeks and into the 2nd week af flower and it will increase your yield!

Sweet thanks! I've been curious about Roots products and have been considering moving over to Roots stuff for my next grow. How well do you think it holds up against Canna or AN?
On another note after fiddling with Canna's Grow Guide (their nute calculator). I found out it rounds whatever you enter for the target volume to the nearest Liter. 1.5L = 2.0, 2.4L = 2.0.. etc which for me (ADD/ADHD) is hard to live with. So I spun up some graph paper and my trusty pencil to do the math for my target volume based off of Canna's 1L base on Coco nutrients.
I came up with: The descriptions are straight from Canna's calculator and the nutrient volumes are based off of ratio's from the 1L base and verified with 2L base from Canna's calculator.

i use Botanicare pro bloom and grow with some various AN products...that is the only roots organics product i use....i have heard the soul synthetic line is pretty good from roots..about 80% organic.
AN...i use voodoo juice, bud candy, carbo load, kushie kush, rhino skin(ph up),and overdrive at the end.....oh yeah wet betty...gotta have her!
i have never used Canna but have not heard anything bad about it:jointsmile:

Well that answers my question... the calculator is only accurate for whole litres.

I'd like to thank everyone for their comments and advice which lead me to where I am now. Thanks guys!
For anyone interested and using Canna Coco products. I wrote up a Python (programming/scripting language) app to calculate corrected nutrient volumes. The Canna calculator rounds to the nearest Liter. If you need help running it please lemme know, or you could just tell me your nute container volume and I can calc it for you real quick.
