First grow. Looking for advice

Hey Cann, looking great man. As far as the male, the pollen will not bug your girls till the sac's open, but you dont wanna wake up one day and there open, you will have a seeded crop. If you can move it into a box in a different room and put a couple cfl's on it, when it flowers you can get some pollen then ditch it. The male i posted in here was sitting by my biggest female, but i only found 2 seeds. Now it wasn't long after i took the pic that i moved the male. Also, if you see an open flower spray it with water, then the pollen cant escape. So if you keep it misted everyday and keep an eye on it, move it just before it looks like what i posted.

Hope this helps, ya got a nice grow going on there. Not sure if you have seen mine, but i have 11 cfl's and the buds look good and will be harvesting soon. I think the cfl's work better then i thought in the beginning.

Thanks LSY, ive been misting them everyday. im nuting about every 1 1/2 weeks. They seem to be doing good so far. MY other female is just now starting to bud but i have feeling she is going to be much much bigger my other one. These are just mixed bagseed from some great bud. They are turning out better then expected considering what im working with. Next grow i will step it up to a real lighting system, better soil and maybe some good nuts as well as some known strain seeds. This was a learning phase for me as ive never grew any kind of plant before. Just gonna keep learning

I'm in the process of growing my second batch of bag seeds and I just germinated some seeds from Attitude. They germinated in a day and already are 3 inches out of the soil after just 2 1/2 days!! Bagseeds were used to get a feel for growing and now I'm amazed with the growth of genetic seeds!!I'm sure you'll say the same when you get around to getting some.

well as for watering i usually go every 3 to 4 days and then check...i check by putting finger in soil about 2 inches deep and if its COMPLETELY dry then i water but if there is any moisture at all then i let her stay... sometimes i like to leave her in a drought though to make the roots stretch out because the bigger the roots usuallly bigger the plant.


and for the flowering thing usually people say when the plant is a little over half the size you want it to be at the end flower it...good luck and happy growing...:thumbsup:

sorry i just forgot to ask...you said you wanted to upgrade you lighting system well im just curious as to what you are using now. because im in the beggining stages of veg right now and my plants are doing great right now but idk what kind of light im going to need for fowering and for bud so i was just wondering...thanks.

looks like you could use a little cal mag, it will help the yellowing~i use it through week 6 and it really gives your girls a more vibrant green~happy plant=better bud :jointsmile:

hi everyone,just wondering weather i could get some advice aswell.my first grow went o.k-ish.....then when i started my second grow i listen to a friend and put my second grow on 12/12 from week 2 (from seeds).i know now that i shouldnt have listened but i did......so i'm at week 5 and would love to boost my yield by going back to veg....has anyone got any advice....or well changing them back to 18/6 for a bit stress them out to much........advice anyone?

GIjaneBRAD for lighting upgrade, right now im using 8 cfl's 4-43w and 4-23w. I think i will prolly get a Amazon.com: Sun System 150w Grow Light Fixture with Bulb: Patio, Lawn & Garden or something similar. right now im using 260+ watts and getting about 16000 lumens. Seems much more practical to use 1 bulb that can produce that. Plus its HPS and will give me much better light pentatration.

one of the first lights i bought was a 4' 4bulb T-5/(2)150 watt hps combo hood and it was a great veg light but not so hot on budding...the 150 watt hps's are not really made for growing like a Hortilux bulb!jmho!

if you are nute free get a PH pen to stick in the soil to watch your PH levels~if your soil is 6.2 - 6.6 your plants are taking all they can get but if it is out of that range she can starve and have plenty of food in your soil! ;)

Does that apply yo hydro if its even possible since theres no original nutes from a soil? So you think I'm better off with cfls though out the entire cycle?

pH comes in handy for soil, as well as hydro. I think he also meant 150w lights aren't that much better, I've heard that the 250s are pretty good though.

im currently running a 3x4x7 shed at my buddies and we have i have my 400watt hps and a 4ft floresent t8 cool blue and the hps is like a shop light but what funny is my plant that i have under the floresent is doing better then the one under the hps is it cause its not a hotilux???

I found a grow shop in my local area that is a growers paradise. I picked up 3 bags of fox farm ocean forest, clonex, some root starters, and some koolbloom dry. I took some cuttings from my other female plant who i feel has some good qualitys that i want (vigiorous growth, medium height, very bushy). This is my first attempt at cloning so only time will tell. I also started my furtherest along plant on a its first nute feeding. I started very very very light maybe if lucky 1/4 of regular dose. Attached are some pics of her. She looks yummy and i cant wait to burn the bitch. :jointsmile: Im still undecided on my lighting. the guy at my grow shop was very positive on using CFL's. I was thinking i might just mix the spectrums rather then just going all 6500k. He suggusted to wait till my next grow as switchin spectrums at this point would put unneeded and unwanted stress on them. But at least ill be better prepared on my next grow.

This first grow was really to just learn from, if i get anything smokeable i will be really really happy. All my plants are from HQ bagseed so i figured they were gonna be just as good as the stuff that was in the bag if not hopefully better. The more i got to think about it the more i was pushed towards using nutes. If im gonna learn i might as well try to cover as many details as i can on this test grow. My next grow i wanna be alot better prepared and armed with info to help my girls serve me better. In the end i wanna be able provide for myself and maybe have a little extra to socially smoke with friends. I dont need a big large grow nor do i want one. Just enough to get by. Thanks everyone for helping and watching me learn.

So i have started to build a CFL lighting system for a walkin closet i have. I used a T12 fixture and attached security light fixtures to the inside. I only have 1 light fixture added as i wanted to make sure it would work good and be a nice clean install for me. the setup will hold 22 bulbs ( double that if i put in a Y splitter per lamp). This should provide me plenty enough light for the closet. the fixture itself only has cost me about $50 plus all the bulbs but i already have 11. I have included some pictures of the fixture. 1 of the pictures is photoshoped to give a better idea what final product will look like when done. Let me know your thoughts.

I also wanna get some opinions or advice on spectrums. Currently right now im only using 6500k spectrum bulbs for both veg and flower. Have been reading and talking to people and seems there is alot of knowledge about using more warm and redish spectrums during flowering opposed to blueish. What if i ran Full spectrum for both would that be better? what am i losing by running only 6500k in flowering. what would i be losing if i didnt run 6500k at all in flowering.

well with MH and HPS its better to run both i run both spectrums with cfls but that because i never have enough for all cool or all warm i use wat i have like you should do! the plants never notice ....shit when i was about 14 me and my cousn grew three females with two 60wat bulbs they strecht alot but it was good bud when it was done i think it took like 4 month to grow about a foot and i dont remember how long they flowered for but yor light setup is wat cfls growers wetdream about

new pics as of today. Soon im going to get a microscope so i can start actively watchin the trichs. Dont wanna harvest too soon or too late.

looks like my first grow. i recommend less water. those roots go deep and these plants can go with out water for some time. and since you are using CFL... no heat so you will want to wait for about 4-6 days before a real watering and maybe a little mist inbetween. you want those leaves t perk up towards the light.

Think as tho the trichs protect the plant... so less water the more trichs will produce trying to protect the plant from the light.

I havnt watered that plant in 8 days. I dont water if i feel any moisture in the soil and i go down 4-5 inches. I do however mist once a day. Thou the plant pictured is 105 days old, leaves are dying and its coming to an end. I dont think there is much more "perking" this plant is gonna do. Another one of my plants just started flowering and looks as you describe, nice green color, leaves pointing sky high and very happy. I will post pictures of her tomorrow. The plant pictured was my first plant ever grown, i abused her alot. the fact that she is producing any buds at all let alone the quality of the ones she has now is a miricle.

Well i finished my CFL lighting system as well as preparing a new grow area. This closet area is 6"x2"x6". I lined it with Reflectix Insulation. http://www.reflectixinc.com/images/u...s%20larger.jpg. I added a 6 Inch fan in the top corner of the area for air movement. The CFL lighting system holds 20 bulbs and each head can be adjusted any direction. Im thinking about moding the reflector a bit to extend out more so it can actually reflect all the light downward. FRom the looks of it i should be able to fit about 8-10 plants in there. I will be laying a sheet of wood on top of a few blocks so the plants are not sitting directly on the floor thats why there is no Refeltix on the bottem 6 inches of the wall ( waste ). If anyone can give me any advice to better prepare this area for my new grow that doesnt involve alot of installation that would be cool.

I picked 4 of these bad boys up for $13.00 a piece at home depot.68w 2700k and 4200 lumens on a cfl is great considering it doesnt put out alot of heat light can be spot directed.

I just ordered 5 Feminized Blackjack and Snow White Seeds fron Nirvana. Cant wait to start growing a good strain. Grow room is set up and i have learned alot on my first grow. Lets hope i can improve and transfer that knowledge to my next grow.

Checked trichs.... Still pretty much clear. She is starting to devolop a very unquie smell to her. Much like cat piss. Other girl is flowering real nice as well. She is about 8 inches taller and has 3x-4x as many bud sites. Cant wait to smoke my OWN product. It will be such a satisfying feeling.

Here is a picture of my other girl. She is doing great. Had a bit of a burn up top but that looks as if it was corrected. She is much bigger and has alot more budding sites then my other girl. Tell me what ya think

Very nice :thumbsup: I like the new setup. You did pretty well without any nutrients... your oldest one does look a little hungry still (probably could have used some more nutes along the line) but I wouldn't mess with it now. Look into getting a good nutrient regime for your next grow. Might not need the veg nutes if you're using foxfarm soil, but definitely get some for flowering.

Thanks BTF. The soil used for both those girls wasnt even the MG soil i bought. My ex old lady just purchused some catus like 2 weeks before we split. Well instead of of looking at those fuckers all day and taking care of them, i had some pretty good bag seed and decided what the hell, so i ripped out the catus and planted the seeds. Started very basic with what i had laying around and been trying to improve my set up and learn as i go. So just the fact that those 2 girls are producing anything is way above my expectations to be honest. I have some Feminized Blackjack & Snow White seeds that i will be starting soon as these ghetto girls get out the way. Having improved my lighting, grow space, temp control, venting and air movement, growing medium (FFOF) and some blooming nutes. I wouldnt see why my next grow wont blow these girls out of the water. I want to try a few grow techniques with a few plants to see what i can pull off next grow as well. ( LST, Topping)


As for blooming nutes i do have some koolbloom dry. Might switch over to a FF product thou.

Thanks for viewing. Ive been keeping a steady eye on your grow as well. Very interested in the TW. It was a strain i was very very close to getting.

Killer light man:thumbsup:. It would be great to mount one on each wall and use a hook light with 3 splitters with 4 bulbs burning from the top. If you expand in there and stay with the cfl's, that would grow some great plants:thumbsup:. Just a thought:hippy:
