hey icbh707 glad you are back! i will be moving to 1000s (i think) in early september, so basically for the fall / winter. i'd def be interested in hearing about your set up. i would LOVE to have a cooltube and a 400W instead right now, but, since i'm taking down these boxes in 2 months or so, it's not worth it.

i think HPS are the better bulb, but it is definitely less forgiving (heat, light intensity, etc), so it is taking time to dial in. i feel like i have it under control now so that is a good thing. i'll try to stop by your log later on, take care man!

ive got blue cheese going now. started under a 400mh and now under a 1000hps. 9 per 1000 in a 4x4 tray with a 70gal res. E&F watering on a timer, you will only have to mix about once a week. remind me when you are ready and i can get you pics and detailed info. best to start with the hot lights when the weather cools down anyway.

how do you like the 1Ks? i originally thought i would put a 600 above each 3x3 table, but now i am thinking a 1K each ... too much light though? not sure if that is going to be a problem. i think with the air cooled hoods and such, i should be alright temps wise.

i am thinking of doing a 24/0 aeroponics ... i have the plans to build all the 3x3 trays i need, i just have to ask a few more questions about amount of attention and shit (sometimes i have to leave for 1-2 days at a time)

haha yes, outdoors and no, i do not live in the country. consider it urban guerrilla growing. it is completely possible, just an increase chances in loss and exposure. i have to do everything at night, and preferably in the rain / bad weather. pain.in.my.ass. but i love it.

WOW! now i have thought about doing hempy buckets once instead of soil and this just showed me that it is well worth a try. now on a scale what would you rate the difficulty of this process up untill this point? So i cant wait to see the out put from the HPS :) but my eye is on this and i cant wait to see what your compairsion of end product from your CFLS and your HPS! keep that thumb green :greenthumb:

hey man, sorry its taken so long for me to get back to you ... hopefully i can answer some questions.

i'd say the process is RIDICULOUSLY easy ... that said.

pros:
-for me ... tiny footprint, no huge pots, don't need 3-5 gallon pots.
-just mix and feed the nutes, pretty straight forward, no wondering what they plant may or may not need.
-things move fast so you can read your plants real well and make adj quick

cons:
- must feed at least every 3rd day, pref every other, can be tough with a busy life like mine
- since you have run off at feedings u gotta take everything out so that u dont flood your room (you can set up so u dont have to do that)
- too much bud!! hahaha that's a pro :D

I'll try to throw up some pics of my current stash. It's a pretty sight esp considering its only a 250W.

Your lady's are really doing work for there pimp. lol man that giga bud looks so so pretty! now if you dont mind me asking how much was you system with the whole setup (buckets, Nutrients,Pumps, exc.)? But my eyes are on this grow becasue you've gone from soil (frist grow) to hydro (present) and it seems easy as pie. thanks also for listing the pro's and cons. now another question.. are you going to stick to hydro growing or you going back to soil or both?

hey camoxnhx what's up thanks for stoppin by. let me see if i can answer some of your questions ...

1) The whole system is actually really cheap. The boxes are homemade, painted the inside white. The 250W HPS was $120. I built some racks for about $20. The bubble cloner was probably $30 total. Fans were $20 each ($60 total). The pots are old gatorade bottles (free) a bunch of duct tape probably like $40 worth so far haha. The nutes are like $50 for the tri pack, i've bought two of those so far. No pumps. So that is $370 total so far. Oh plus the seeds which were maybe $50 so far. haha, that's $420 (and i did not do that on purpose).

2) I do not think I will be doing soil again. Obviously my outdoor stuff will be soil, but I truly enjoy the speed and ease of hydro. I will be moving to aeroponics also, as soon as I move into my new place. I might actually build an aero cloner just to try stuff out before I move. That is ZERO medium, and I love that. The key to a big bud is big roots so that should be awesome.

Might keep moms in soil if I have the space. More than likely I will put them in 5 gallon DWC instead though.

All this talk of Moms made me realize that I think I am going to flower out my GB mom pretty soon. I just need to figure out how much space I need for that.

And if its not to much could you breakdown the process of filling it with water or how you go about your hempy buckets. or maybe pics to show how to set it up if not its all good buddie. Your plants look amazing btw. Dude hows that power skunk smell btw.

nope. i water every 2-3 days (they are a little dry at 3 days, but marijuana thrives in wet to dry to wet cycles). Let me see if I break this down a little better and I will try to take some pictures later on and post them up.

The hempy bucket is quite simple and it is that simplicity that makes them so great. Basically you take any bucket (i used 32 oz gatorades with the top cut off but you can essentially use any size) and cut/drill a hole about 1-1.5" from the bottom. When I first made buckets I used a 1 gallon paint bucket and ended up glueing a small piece of screen over the hole. With my gato-buckets I have been just cutting little holes in the bucket and saying screw the screens. Once your bucket is prepared you fill it with the medium which for me is perlite/vermiculite (4:1). You can use anything as a medium though (just not soil). The point of the buckets is that there is a small reservoir in each one (below the hole) and therefore that fills with your nute mix everytime. Once the roots hit that res they go nuts. So when I FEED (always nute mix, never just water) every 2-3 days, I fill until there is run off from the hole. Oh and I used the FF line up ... just follow the exact feeding schedule.

That is pretty much it. I will try to post some pics tonight if I have some time. If none of that makes sense, let me know, but I hope that helped a bit.

I highly suggest using hempys, it is easy as hell. I know killa12345 has used 11 liter buckets and grown some bad ass black haze so you can def grow some monsters.

i definetly think you got it secret......one thing though....i have been seeing IRB(hempy's when not following directions to his specifications) using soil mixtures......also....PH is very important.....some strains wont show problems but some picker strains will hate the ph flucts.....im still learning on this process myself.....recently i been seeing that 1 gal is the ideal size.....plus ive been seeing different methods which i will post on very soon!

So with the hempy buckets after I see pics when u have time I want to cut clones from the Aurora Indica and also my Mazar x Afghani! But man I can't wait to see them in hempy buckets. Jah Bless Your Greenthumb Man!

Thanks SG. I was just about to ask you or killa about the straight water days like one does with a soil grow.

Mine haven't reached the bottom yet so I'm still watering every day. The hempy bucket system sure takes the worry out of over/under watering.

So far, knock wood, I'm having good luck with the Botanicare Pro Grow stuff. I'm guessing it is very similar to the FF, from what I've read on their site, as they both have scheduled amounts based on seedling, veg or flowering.

That is correct, you should be feeding everyday until they really make it down and hit the res. Once they are in the res they sure do shoot up. You brought up something that is basicaly once of the best reasons to use hempys. No such thing as over or under watering ... perfect amount each time.

Never tried botanicare, sounds like it should work just fine. I just use FF because that is what I saw killa using and his shit looked amazing. That's all there was to my decision.

tryin to keep this updated. may have a humidity problem? newest clones are rooting like champs but being real bitches in the leaves section. I just put 3 new ones in soil and they look ok, but I have 2 in hempys that look like shit. Leaves are all droopy and stuff, looks like over/under watering, but has been sort of consitent. Not sure what the deal is. I thought it was humidity, but it's only at like 50% which is not TERRIBLE. The truth is I only need the ones in hempys in order to preserve genetics. So basically I have 3 months to get one of each strain to root properly. I think i can handle that ... :D

1) rootball from GB mom, got some more space by cutting off the bottom and putting her into a bigger bucket. you can see how rootbound she was down in that res. Probably why she sucked up water so damn fast. The roots are brown due to the FF BigBloom. Now she is in flower :thumbsup: hopefully will give me at least 1.5 zips off her. I'm going to let her go long (long? ha - 6 weeks) and get fat too. So far I have been paying a lot of attention to R5 in hopes of creating a very even canopy (best I can).

SG, you present another testament to the greatness of the Hempy bucket. I've been talking about using Hempy buckets for about a year now, and I truly do need to break down and try them out. I might have to take some clones from a nice lookin' fem I have and root them and place them in Hempies. There is no doubt they would take off, given your fine lookin' ladies and all of killa's.

what up everyone, quick update.

just got back from nyc after a couple of days and shit has really blown up. i am a little worried my R4 is rootbound, but they seem to be doing ok, just droppin some lower fan leaves here and there. I have one of the power skunks that is just a stunning plant at the moment. Everything is all packed tight and pretty much the entire plant is nugget, lots of multiple tops, so I am happy with that. Always learnin, ya know? Glad I figure out how to run her because everyone loves her. Always askin for the power skunk...

I dropped the R4 down a little lower tonight (i dont raise the lights, i lower the plants) and actually raised the R5 up. They got LST'd to keep them away from the lights, but chances are I am going to have to drop them back down in a couple of days. The problem is a I dont really have an intermediate step. I have: floor, up 13", up 26". That's it. I will figure it out, always do. :D

hey everyone, quick update because i am way too stoned off scissor hash.

i took down 2 power skunk and a duban poison. this was the last from the run that didn't get topped and didn't get the full veg experience. thus, the PS was real talk, but one of them def yielded a decent amount. as for all the other girls...

R3 = 59
R4 = 38
R5 = 16

one more round to go in a week and a half or so. i've got 10 clones in soil that are loving life. they will go outside in the next couple of weeks.

killa my man, glad to see you here again too my friend. i'm sure you understand this, but the more i read about EVERYTHING, the more i tend to change my mind every damn day. so these are the facts:

1) at first, i was sold on aero, then i realized that i don't have the time or energy to be checking on that stuff 1-2 times a day, so that is out.

2) i wouldn't go back to soil, at very least i can stick with hempy and rig up some sort of drip feed system that i can just turn on every couple of days. but at that point, might as well go with a drip feeder or an ebb and flow of some sort. so an "auto" hempy is still high on my list.

3) i feel like i could do well with a recirculating dwc. i am planning on kind of setting it up as i go, building the 5 gallon buckets and i can always add more buckets, a better res system, R/O, permanent meters, nute dosers, etc etc. i feel like if i can do it well enough i can eventually automate almost everything and then sit back, relax and enjoy the grow (HAHA YA RIGHT, like it ever gets that easy). if i can get the res all dialed in, i would like to use ScrOG which I feel is always the bets yielding.

so that is where i stand on those decisions. i will have a new place on sept 1, so a lot will depend on that. i am also going to be starting a bunch of satori, double bubble, white rhino, church, AMS, white widow and a couple others and choosing some keepers, so i may stick with hempy while i do that selection process.

oh and killa, i think you will appreciate, i am going to start breeding as well. i have some mandala satori regular seeds so i would love to get a bad ass papa from some of those and start crossin that with some other nasty mamas. i am also debating taking the dive and getting some sensi jack herer seeds and grabbin a papa outta that (prices just went up to $200+ on boutique and attitude for a damn 10 pack - still worth it in my eyes) i just read a huge thing on marijuana botany and the persuit of the ultimate strain and it sounds like a long and lengthy yet enjoyable process. i can't wait.

anyways killa, i sure do appreciate you stopping by and catchin up. i'm going to head over to your thread in a minute and see what i can find :jointsmile: i'll def hollar at you at that other place and see how you are doing soon.
