I just got a spot in Victorville, so the California Aqueduct is my new backyard...
Plus I still have Silverwood, or a 1.5 hour drive to the beach and go Halibut Hunting lol...Besides Growing,Billards, and gaming Fishing is my only other Hobby... Man that reminds me I feel like going fishing
I go fishing out of San Diego, Mostly for tuna, yellowtail and Dorado. Nothin like being 80 miles in the middle of no where. I like to down some edibles and then crawl into my bunk for the night.
I love fishing! Diamond Valley in Hemet CA is the best place in So Cal.
The Delta has some os Calis best fishing.
10 footers even:thumbsup:
There's a lot of steps to shorecasting, First you need bait. You can buy frozen bait, but fresh is far better. That requires a dive. You spend a few hours just looking for taco (Japaneese word for octipus). I've seen people go right past them, because they are masters of disguise.
So you have enough bait, to cover your hooks. Now it becomes haul ass time. There are only so many spots to fish from and everybody wants one. You race out to the backside and find South Wailua open. Thank God! But you still have work to do.
You now get to go down the cliff. Only 150 ft down. There are ropes...and a ladder...and a slick as snot red dirt trail. Oh and did I forget to mention, its raining, and you have a 70 lb pack on your back? And your 13 ft lemmiglass poles in your hands? Good Times.
You get to the bottom. There's a cave, and a big crack that once a tarp is put over it becomes dry and comfortable. That's your home for the weekend
But the work has one little gem saved up for you. You gotta go back up the cliff and bring down the ice and bait. First trip was food and gear. Sorry.
By this time the day is almost done, That's cool...The big ulua bite at night.
My rigs are all the same 13 ft lemmiglas pole, 50 lb test on a 4/0 Penn reel.
The line is tied to a barrell swivel. Off the swivel is a 4 ft length of steel leader, and a washer to stop the slide. On the washer is a breakaway lead line and a 8 to 10 oz grabber lead.
Now you gotta chuck all that 150 yds or so out onto the blues. Throwing a pole is not easy. Takes some practice and a lot of backlashes. Eventualy you learn to let the natural spring of the pole do the work, and that baby will sail for miles.
Sun has set, time to slide bait. We use a slide bait swivel...you may call them pigtails. Put your bait on the hook, and attach your swivel and let it go. Gravity does the rest. The bait slides right down the line. This way over the night you can slide 3 or 4 times with new bait, and not pull up your pole. After the baited pole is in the water, you put a cowbell on it so you will wake up if you have a strike.
Now its party time. Cook dinner, smoke joints, drink beer whatever. Burn time, waiting for the bell. It seldom happens when you are waiting. Best bet is to go to sleep.
Dream time. Just about the time the pretty blonde makes her appeareance in my dreams, a godamn bell starts clanging...followed by a rachet, and line stripping off the reel. Hana'pa. Hook up. The next minute is chaos everybody half asleep, slippery rocks, find your shoes and headlights. slide out to the point, Bobby's pole is screaming. He tosses the bell, turns off the rachet and sets the hook. Big smile..."this is a dude!"
He's in charge. All we do is over, under, so the line doen't go and tangle with ours. We help any way we can , but Bobby is fucking this donkey, not us. He's screaming at me to get the gaff, but I get to be the bearer of real bad news...two words....Pink eyes. Sharky....Tax collector...The man in the grey suit.... whatever you want to call it.... I call it rubbish. I learned some new cuss words that day.
Long story short (I think I blew that oppertunity a ways back) Bobby's pal caught a rat (small ulua) and I caught an Uku (grey snapper) on live bait next morning. Not worth writing home about, but a decent dinner.
Nice fish tale, Ol Haole! I fished offshore on Oahu and Maui once...chased a 8' marlin around for two hours, but he wouldn't hit anything we threw at him, caught a few ahi, nothing big tho....when I boarded the boat, I asked the Capt if he minded if I smoked, and he said smoked what? LMAO! Just cigs I said, and he laughed pretty hard, he said cigs ok, but Coast Guard has 0 tolerance for anything else, turns out he was cool off the boat...I fish for anything everywhere, but live around the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean, so salt is where I'm usually at, with a pack of doobers, a roach clip, and a windproof lighter!
Here ya go guys, case anyone is interested......22nd Annual Isabella Lake Fishing Derby
I love to fish but I have to fish for a way of life still be findin it fun.

After living in san diego my whole life, i just spent 6 years in Colorado. never fished at all in san diego, but got into fishing while in colorado. Colorado fishing is awesome! just sucks cuz its only like 3 months out of the year.
