GREENATIK'S HOUSE OF FOAM
Yeah Greenatic,
I have been away from home doing the festival scene in my campervan here in the UK as I do every year.
I found your other grow log and read it, Pilav did you proud man.
Sorry this is of topic, I will be lurking on this one all the way.;)
Best regards Greenthing.:D

I have a friend who grows in coco, he say's it is reusable because he uses Cannazym which breaks down the old root matter, it saves him money on grow media.
-
GREENATIK'S HOUSE OF FOAM
where can I get this stuff? and how well does it work. and how often do U have to water.
-
GREENATIK'S HOUSE OF FOAM
coco is the shit. its considered hydro so it requires a couple variables to be on track. if your PH is on, and you supplement CAL/MG (medium is inert, no nutrients) when your not giving nutes, you will be amazed with coco
it does require more water, because it is aerated so much. I water them once at night when the lights are on, I don't soak em, but I give em enough for runnoff. then in the morning I fill up the tray that they are sitting in, and they wick it up during the dark period. I usually put like sweet and a light nute mix during their sleep cycle, and flush at night through the top
check out puffs white widows. or check out icmag, they have a section just on coco. quite amazing stuff..
and yes, its reusable, but its so cheap, unless your doing a larger grow op (or if your just not as lazy as me! :D), its easily replaceable. just make sure you rinse it well before using it the first time. :hippy:

hey bro,
yeah, I really enjoy growing the assortment. Next run I keep telling myself that it will be way more efficient (and 10x easier) to sog the same strain... but variety is what im all about! Since this is going to be 100% peronal, the variety should help with building up a tolerance (which i do easily) to one strain or another
anyways im on my way to check out a few logs in a bit
peace :hippy:

Hi Greenatic, do you rinse with PH water.
-
GREENATIK'S HOUSE OF FOAM
heya green,
I did not rinse with ph water this go around. I had a lot to rinse and I really wanted to wash it well, so i just used plain tap. but after I rinsed it and let it dry out a bit, I watered it with ph'd water and a light nute mix right before transplanting into. my mix contained piranha root mass, b1, liquid karma, and a tiny bit of maxigro veg nutes (everything was 1/6 strength or less)
but if you can do it, phd water would be the better route, although I saw no problems doing it this way :hippy:

I was not sure if you would have to with coco, I know its best to soak rockwool cubes in PH water.
what PH is your normal tap water, over here mine is 7.1
-
GREENATIK'S HOUSE OF FOAM
mines about 7.5
it would be best to soak it in ph'd water i would imagine, but the rinsing is to remove the excess salts that coco is so renown for having. I probably ran 2-3 gallons through each of my gatorade pots lol. now the runoff is really clean. I did not rinse pilav's coco nearly as well, and nearing the end of that run, lots of salt started to buildup on top of container :(
oh, what i like to do, is ph an entire cooler full of water at a time, then separate it into smaller containers for flush/nute mixes
my flush water is at a ph of 5.8 and all I add is calmag
my nute mix is ph 5.8 and all I have been adding is 1/6 strength flora nova bloom and a little bit of sweet
I try and do 3 flushes to 1 nuting
:hippy:

GREENATIK'S HOUSE OF FOAM
Thanks for the info man, I am gonna give coco a try next time round:thumbsup:
-
GREENATIK'S HOUSE OF FOAM
that makes me happy man..
if i've helped convince a couple people of how easy and explosive coco is, then this log was entirely worth it
a couple more points about coco:
first of all, using a nute that is ph balanced and made for hydroponic mediums is key (IMO). last run i used botanicare bloom pro, and now I am using flora nova. both are 1-part nutes, containing everything needed for a hydro medium. There are lots of guides to follow over at icmag in the coco section about nute formulas compiled by some of the best coco growers i've seen. Lots of people recommend the canna line of nutes. I couldn't get my hands on it locally, but I would steer you towards that line. The nutes are specifically built for coco, not just hydro in general
secondly, don't be afraid of overwatering. it's possible, but only in a finer coco. i used botanicare BOSS coco last run, and it was fine enough to not have to water for up to two days. I pump water through this coarse coco twice a day, and i think this is where the difference will be seen this time around. The roots are thick white with lots of side branching.
pot size is not significant like it is with soil. my gatorade bottles will be more than suitable for the entire run. but the bigger the pot, the less you have to water.
the last tip i have is bottom feeding. I picked up this technique again over at icmag. it encourages the roots to grow more efficiently and replenish the root zone with fresh oxygen.
first i take a bucket filled with ph water and my calmag (or nutes, but I usually flush with this method)
Then, take your plant and push the pot down into the bucket. you can actually see air bubbles shooting up and once the pot stops trying to rise up and starts to sink, its been watered thoroughly. im going to find the link on the article about this
hope this helps :rasta::rasta:

I am so gunna try this.
and where can I get this stuff.
-
GREENATIK'S HOUSE OF FOAM
Us coco growers are taking over the world!
:D
About the coco nutes Hesi is also very good and have a specific line for coco growing so depending on what you can get your hands on Hesi or Canna will both be excellent choices.
This is the chart and the nutes I use.

I go a bit harder than that though. ;)

GREENATIK'S HOUSE OF FOAM
most hydro shops have a good selection of coco. if you can water daily or put them in a tray to wick, get a coarser coco. you might be able to get coco elsewhere, im not sure though :wtf:
the hydro shop or online will be the only place to get the nutes though.
so this is what id get
1 bag, or 1 'brick' of coco
1 bottle of calmag
1 ph tester (and up/down to fix) ph needs to be 5.5-6.0
one part veg nute
one part bloom nute
thats the basics, any additives are up to you. im using piranha, sweet/molasses, kool bloom liquid/dry. the piranha is just fungi for massive root growth and you only use it for a couple of times in veg. the kool bloom liquid starts after week 5 of flower and the dry is a ripener for the last couple weeks. ive been using sweet for a week now and will continue every other watering until flush. the last weeks i will add the molasses
now i gotta go tend to the garden :rasta:

GREENATIK'S HOUSE OF FOAM
HI Greenatic,
I can get Canna nutes in my local hydro shop, I have used them before with NFT system with excellent results, big yields.
Thanks for all the info on the coco medium great stuff.
Do you mind if i copy that post for future reference.

well its been quite challenging lately (with a couple) but the stretch won't last much longer I think.. the secret is in a nute I gave them right before I flipped to 12/12. its called The Stimul8r and it increases the amount of flowering nodes. it has really done a good job keeping them short. i am growing everything from a bagseed sativa to white widow to indicas, and without it, i think they would of stretched beyond control. also i keep the lights within 1 inch, thats why some leaves look burnt because they grow up into the lights occasionally.

This is a very interesting read greenatik.......I think im gonna try some coco next run.....probably coco/perlite hempy's vs. perlite/verm hempy's....might just throw a couple of soil ones in too with FFOF....
One question about the coco....since you done much more research....which i will eventually have to catch up, but have you seen people use FF hydro nutes in coco.....i can get any nutes from the hydro shops but i have tons of FF nutes now and some AN micro and Bloom.
Thanks for the show.....our clones are exactly 1 day apart.....nice...i also found that FF bestie bloomz will stop the plant from growing in its tracks....one or two doses and that plant will not grow more than 3 inches....
-
GREENATIK'S HOUSE OF FOAM
hey killa sounds like a plan... although I have heard that cutting coco with perlite has no benefit. you should try just coco vs hempy with the same hydro nute. should be an awesome comparison, as well as interesting ;)

Thanks for the heads up with the coco/perlite.....ill take your advice and go 100% coco....im gonna go to hydro store on monday and source some coco.....any suggestions?...the store i go to has everything...
Off to IC to research more on coco! just like u said....if a few people go coco after this log it was worth it......chalk up another one for me!
thats kinda how i feel about the hempy's.....no one really over here ran them....now i feel people understand how explosive and easy passive hydro can be!

GREENATIK'S HOUSE OF FOAM
well, no brand in particular, but I'm really likin' whats going on in the box with this coarse coco. just make sure you wash it good. mine came compressed in a brick in a grow bag. i ran water in it and it expanded, use your hands to fluff it up and break it apart. then, i put the coco into the pots, or gatorade bottles ::pimp: and rinse it once more really well... it drains easily so it doesn't take too long.
just make sure you have calmag

omg. omg. omg. they R looking so so beautiful now. cant wate to see end grow bud shot.
so how often can this be reused? I really really want to get this stuff.
and have u seen any buds yet?
this is 1 hell of a badass grow.
-
GREENATIK'S HOUSE OF FOAM
I wonder how well this setop would work with seeds.
-
GREENATIK'S HOUSE OF FOAM
hey hydro,
purple erkle is from seed, it was from bud so it had a good chance of being female.. but i would really recommend using clones. its really easy to clone, and it keeps the SOG extremely efficient. the canopy stays even and its much easier to work with. my gg x bg, the ones that are growing like single colas, will be revegged and kept as a mother for the next run. all clones from that, and the yield will be greatly increased. i can also fit more plants because of how it grows.
coco is reusable but its really not expensive. youd be suprised. one bag was enough for 30 gatorade bottles and it was i think 4$
my last grow in the computer was in coco, it really was frosty yielded nicely for 1 plant in a comp, but dont overnute in coco, it reacts a lot faster (everyone saw pilav get fucked by the guano :()
try it out, if you can maintain a solid ph, not let them dry out, and supplement the calcium and mag when your not using the 1 part nute, i think you will have similar results bro

so can I use any kind of hydro ferts in the coco?
and where can I get this stuff. like at a hydro shop or a garden shop or where ever.
and how much water do U give them each time U water?
also I have done 4 DWC grows over the past 3 years. they went good.
but just a few months ago I tryed to grow dwc agen and it whent way bad.
so I wnt back to soil but ended up with 10000,000000s of white flys.:(
thanks for the info on this.:D

I hope this wasnt in a bag of FFOF......i had a problem with a bag of FFOF infested with white flys......took it back to the store and they gave me a replacement....i had a thread on this.....seems like in my parts we have a major white fly epedemic......This is the reason i went hempy.....
On another note...I bought some coco today......its called cocogro.....its mixed sizes....i saw the fine stuff and decided this might be better.....thanks hydrocannabis....i should have some clones running in the next few weeks with Coco/Hempy/FFOF

hydro shop is your best bet for the supplies needed. any hydro nute should do the trick but there's nutes out there that will work much better for coco. hesi and canna are two of the best. I have seen insane grows with Monkey juice a/b.
CALMAG 3/4-1 tsp / gal when not nuting
i water twice a day now, once when they were little clones, but now, if i only watered once a day they would die.... when coco is dry, its really dry, and the plant will be on its side within 12 hrs (already happened to one of these plants, but it revived quickly once I watered it :( )
and how much i water is really something youll just get the feel for. its dependent on what type of coco you get and its drainage properties. about 80% of what I pour into the coco comes out due to the 'coarseness'
