Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
Hey Elvis,
The seedlings are of different ages, man. I started with 5 of each. It was too hot and killed some so I tried 2 more, then the last 3 of each. So, maybe I'll have a couple more pop if I'm lucky. I hope that I can at least have two of each to grow out (females). I'll fill the area whether it's four plants or, like last grow, a dozen.
Zeb,
I'll transplant next weekend, probably. No problems with separating, rally. I've used these boxes quite a few times. I like how they can hold moisture for longer periods than small pots. I take as much soil with the roots as possible. If two seedlings are close and the roots have to be cut a bit it's no problem. I'll be going to 6"-8" pots.
-
Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
Shov, I thought 4 of your 5 made it, and that those on the left side of your box were of the same age - my bad. They look mahvelous regardless! I looked back at some "closed room" thread the other day, and that guy planted in 1 big box, and would simply dissect the box for transplanting, cutting squares around the plants, and invariably cutting roots in the process. He had an amazing grow, so it looks like, as you said, you will have no problems even if you have to cut a bit of root.
Enjoy your weekend, my friend! Aloha - Elvis has left the building....

Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
Well the few kids I see there look pretty happy! Sorry to hear about your issues Shov. :(

Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
LOL No problems, I've not fooled myself into thinking that I'm anything special and can't still make mistakes. I have had 100% germination rates in the past and last grow was 100% females and all produced top quality bud. But this experience wasn't anything I'm disappointed in. I have 50% rate after friggin it up with the lights too close. Not bad for these seeds, that didn't look as robust as the seed stock I've been working with. The freebees I got, Sweet Bud, are puny little seeds. I've not done anything with these three yet, though I gave away 5 of the ten I had.
Thanks for the kind words though, Weedhound. You're a sweet bud yourself. :cool:
Been out of town to Ohio, WV, NY this week. Just got in and transplanted the seedlings into larger pots. Man, the larger plants (and they are getting stout) had roots across the whole bottom of the boxes. I'll try and get some photos up soon.
Have a great weekend, All, especially us Yanks celebrating Labor Day.

Oh I like your mylars pasted to cardboard idea too....you should patent it(G) The babies that popped are looking all pretty in pink.

Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
Alrighty now, here's some pics at week three. If you've read the beginning of this you'd know that these plants are different ages from one to three weeks old, right, Elvis? <G>
These are the AK 47 plants, you can't see but under the broad leaves of the older plants are many branches with little leaves already.
[attachment=o199186]
Here's the four Neville's Haze seedlings. I do hope that I don't loose any of these as four are not very many to work with. I'll be very careful when I start to feed these.
[attachment=o199187]
Thanks for the props on the cardboard, I don't think it's exactly 'sliced bread' but it's simple and very easy to work with also.
As far as flipping at five weeks, many experts say if you're growing from seed to make sure the plant is mature before going to bloom cycle. When the nodes change from opposite to alternating that signals maturity. For clones you could start right off with 12-12 as soon as they root. I did cut my veg cycle short to six weeks last grow with no bad effects though.

Sign me up too. I'm anxious to see how those strains do, especially the Neville's haze indoors.
We just starting to look into seed varieties to try on our next grow. I can't think of a more appropriate thread since our seed purchase will be a Christmas present to ourselves.

Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
Thanks for tunin' in.
I may have had a notion of a strategy for this grow but I think I forget it. At least for now. :)
ok, now when I remember all that I will post it!

Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
Im coming along for this ride. Hey shov what type of glue did you use to glue that mylar to the cardboard. I think I want to try it out. I got a roll of mylar laying around I dont use because its hard to clean. I think doing it your way it'll be easier to clean.:rasta::rastasmoke::pimp:
-
Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
whatever glue. I used Elmer's paste, my bro in law used some spray. Shit, you could staple it, pin it, it doesn't matter what as long as it doesn't stink when it dries (jellyfish glue, for example) <G>

AK47 Marijuana Seeds (Serious Seeds)
AK47 seeds from the breeder Serious Seeds, is an easy to grow plant and the most popular from the Serious Seeds range. It is of medium height and produces good yields quite quickly.
Extremely STRONG odor and smoke. Take extra care with odor control when growing near neighbors. The name was given not out of any idea of violence, but more in association with the â??one hit wonderâ?? that the smoke is. Quality without compromise makes AK47 suitable for commercial grows or home use.
These plants have a short flowering period for a sativa, producing compact, not too leafy buds that gleam with a coat of resin crystals.
AK47 is a Cannabis Cup Winner 8 times!!! Including second prize for the Best Sativa in the 1999 and 2003 High Times Cannabis Cup, proving it is a favorite to smoke as well as to grow.
Indoor / Outdoor: Suitable for indoor and outdoor growing

Harvest Month: Mid to end Oct

Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
yeah those are some very high quality strains shov. The Neville's haze is a bit pricey. I've smoked the ak-47 and it was very sticky stinky stinky beautiful bright green and def one of my favorite smokes of all. It really is a one hit wonder and doesn't leave you crashed on the couch all day. I may just have to get some seeds in the very near future. I'm subscribed and can't wait to see how these girls turn out. Good luck buddy

Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
I'll sure try and do it right. Everything will be much the same as my last grow...except the strains are much different. I'll be careful feeding them, the haze especially.

Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
You know Shov a good spray or ointment on those "issues" works pretty well.. :D
Wow, you REALLY study up your strains. I'm impressed. :thumbsup:

Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
Shove,
I am starting to think of strains for my next grow. Bubblegum Is one of the strains I am concidering. I know it is not in this log but I was wondering where you got the seeds from?
Thanks JG
-
Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
Local hook up. I had clones from a commercial pot dealer and then he got hot and split but left a bag of seeds, which I abused (planted by the 100s and gave many away) and no longer have any. I did inbreed a couple of plants for my own seeds though. I'm sure the Serious Seeds genetics are great. I may even get some myself sometime.
-
Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
In studying your Neville's Haze info.....I have 3 "foundation" haze plants going in soil right now. They are unsexed but I hope to get at least one female from the group.
-
Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
I'm hoping for a nice female too. I only have four NH. They are looking very good. Five of the six AKs are looking fine also.
-
Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
I've found the AK's to be pigs.....could not tell you about the NH since mine were crosses but I certainly did appreciate the buzz from them! Turned me into a complete haze fan so I'll be very interested in your NH's.
-
Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
Yup, I understand that they are good 'eaters'
I think the plan may be to fill my vessel with the fert solution, use 75% of it on the AK, then fill back up to 2/3 full with water and feed the Neveille's Haze. Adjust from there. I water twice to every one feeding. Right now it's every three days or more and only a little over one gallon. Later on with more mature plants and 5-6 gallon pails it's more like 4 gallons every two days.
-
Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
Week four. Plants do not seem to be transpiring very much water. I water generously and four days later they are all still pretty wet. I was used to 4 gallons every two days while flowering the last grow. Now I'm using about one gallon every five days. The temp is 80Âș. Some plants have a little yellowing, due to the wet condition. I'm letting them dry out before I water again, but they are looking pretty good though. I have a couple of midgets, that happens. I'm also running an exhaust fan today as the grow room temp is warmer than outdoors, so exhausting the grow room air will pull in fresh outdoor air.

Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
Plants dried out pretty well. I had to water as I'm going away for a couple of days so I fed them the Technaflora vegative stage nutes;
B.C Boost
B.C Grow
Thrive Alive B-1 Red
MagiCal
SugarDaddy
The AKs got the recommended strength and the Haze got 1/3 strength. I also foliar sprayed with B-1 Green with a drop of dish detergent.
Five of the six AKs were FIMed, one had to be LSTed so it wouldn't grow into the light while I'm gone.
Except for one small AK all the plants are thriving. :)

Looking good Shove:thumbsup:
That one AK is a real runt, it is dwarfed by the others, she looks like 2 weeks behind untill you enlarge the picture. Maybe she will turn just turn into one giant bud:rastasmoke:

Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
There are plants that are two weeks behind the others. I've mentioned that in previous posts. I just use 'week four' now relating to the first beans I planted. Check out the first photos I posted. Anyway, it is still a runt. Many of the other later seedlings have started to catch up with the earlier sprouts. The rest of the AKs and the haze have really gone nuts in the last two days, thus the FIM. Can't wait until week five pics, next Sunday!

Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
Sorry :( I assumed they were the same age, it has been awhile since I checked your log and have not kept up like I should. I will from now on :thumbsup:
-
Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
The grow is going nicely. I had to remove a couple of leaves. The plants are very low adn the leaves that touch the soil got nute burned by contact.
Here's five of the six AK-47s. The runt (not shown) is still holding it's own but will likely be culled.

Here are the four Neville's Haze.

Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
I cut two from each of the AKs this am.
I soaked ten peat pucks in a solution of water and Strive-Alive B1-Red. I labelled each of the donors with a number and labelled sticks for the clones. At the ready I had a siccors, a razor blade, water solution, cloning gel, chop stick and muffin tins.
[attachment=o200828]
I cut two lower branches from a donor plant, placing them in a cup of solution. Then, removed excess leaves, cut the stem on a 45Âș angle with the razor. I then touched the cut to a paper towel before putting it in the cloning gel.
[attachment=o200829]
From there I put the cutting into a peat puck where I had poked a hole with the chop stick and gently pinched the opening shut.
[attachment=o200830]
I then added additional solution to the tins and sprayed the cuttings with clean water and slid the tins into plastic bags with a wire support to keep the bag off the cuttings. I placed these off to the side of my light fixture for now. I'll be moving them back to the bench for 24 hour light from a flourescent or perhaps a CFL.
[attachment=o200831]
Any remarks, suggestions appreciated.

Hot Dang, Shov! Your plants are looking outstanding! That front right NH is incredible, dude! Dang fine work on them all, and sweet and informative description of your cloning process. I appreciate that information, and will remember your thread for the time I begin cloning. Thanks!
-
Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
Terrific for you to say so, Brian (I appreciate that information).
I've not had a lot of experience in cuttings for mj. So, let's just watch together and see hor things go. I'll keep up with posting the details as we see the results.
I figured that I needed many more specimens (and beaucoup de fortune) if I wanted to get any kind of seed from this. So, I started to cut clones as soon as possible. Hoping to cut some haze in a week or two.

Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
Plants seem to be very happy so far shov. I love the ak's huge leaves. I actually started some ak-48s about the same time (month and 4 days ago) and they have similar growth patterns which excites me. Two of them actually have new growth of 7 and 9 leaves! Have any of your's shown this characteristic?
gmorning
-
Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
No, I haven't noticed any large numbers of leaflets. But I did notice that the branches are starting to grow alternating, which is a sign of maturity. The Neville's Haze are so squat that I can't get cuttings yet. So though. I'd like to get two ro three from each of the four plants.
No comments on the AK-47 cutting posts? Anyone?
-
Shov's Christmas Sativas 2008
I mixed a new batch of soil this morning. Two bags of Intervale (local Vermont Organic) potting soil, a bag of perlite, a bag of vericulite, a bag of worm castings and half a sq. foot of peat moss. I now have the (4) Neville's Haze and the runt AK-47 in three gallon pots and the (5) AK-47s in five gallon pails. I added a 400 watt MH to the 216 watts of T-5 florescent lights.
The (10) AK-47 clones are doing well and are down in the corner of the grow area, out of the bright light. As soon as they start to root and I transplant them into 6" pots, I'll flip them to 12/12 and start some Neville's Haze cuttings, probably in another week.
I'll try and grab some photos tomorrow. Thanks for checkin it out.
