First Grow: Jack the Ripper under a Procyon
awesome. i will do so since the godfather of LED has suggested it. =)
Question -- I have my cups on a wire rack thats like 2" high just to keep them off the floor of the growhut. The whole thing is made out of this washable vinyl. I've just been letting them drain and then dry (never takes long), but some soil has leaked and stained the floor. Would it be ok to wash this with like a Spray Cleaner that has a little bleach in the formula (taking the plants out of course) or would there still be enough bleach in the air to harm the plants afterwards?
Sorry, a little stoned, so hopefully I explained that question clearly lol.

First Grow: Jack the Ripper under a Procyon
Girls are comin along great, my late planted seed is finally turning around... should hopefully be transplanting by week's end the way we're going.
Question: since I added the CFLs and the oscillating fan, my temps have gone up and my humidity has gone down. The room my grow tent is in is like 8' x 2.5' (grow tent is 2.5' x 2.5') and the temp is 67F, humidity 63%. Inside the grow tent, the temp is 77F and the humidity 44%.
I've got 3 solo cups worth of water sitting in there to try and add a little water back into the atmosphere, but I cant seem to get the humidity up at all. Should I be worried that i'm not in the ideal 60-70% for veg? Is there another way to get my humidity inside the grow tent up or should I not even worry about it as long as I stay above 40%?
Thanks all

First Grow: Jack the Ripper under a Procyon
Nevermind on the humidity, 44% seems to be ok.
Got some pics. Time for transplant? Going away for a day and a half but I think Saturday night would be a good time to transplant... =) Then nute time? Girls were planted (seeds) June 1, so they are 25 days old. Slow starters, I know, that was my fault. (too long in the rapid rooters)
Also, last two pics are of the tri-node plant. it appears it grew half a node and then has a full node growing in UNDER that! Look at how fat the half node's leaves are!!!
What should I do with this plant, just let it do its thing?
Thanks all

First Grow: Jack the Ripper under a Procyon
yeah man....let it go!! I had a whorled phylotaxy last grow...(3 nodes at each point instead of 2)...and let it go, but it was a dude, so it went out....lookin healthy! It is almost transplant time:thumbsup:

First Grow: Jack the Ripper under a Procyon
Hahaha yeah hopefully this one will be fine. Think I'd be good with transplanting tomorrow night, WT, or should I wait? Also, I meant to ask you, do you use 100% FFoF or do you mix in perlite? if so, how much?
Thanks
DrSpiggs

First Grow: Jack the Ripper under a Procyon
nope...100% FFoF man...and i would go ahead and transplant this weekend...i am:thumbsup:

First Grow: Jack the Ripper under a Procyon
Transplant complete! mixed 11 gallons of ocean forest with 1 gallon of perlite. transplanted into 1 gallon grow bags. gave the 8 plants about 2 gallons of water. Gave them some spraying with the Dont Bug Me too. Hopefully it doesnt kill them.
Found a fly that kind of looked like an ant. Killed it. Not sure if that has anything to do with the yellow spotting on my leaves. Didnt see any signs of bugs on the undersides of leaves. Confused.
Cleaned the floor of the growhut with some spray cleaner that had bleach in it. Transplant was fun. Really tired now. Here's some pics.

First Grow: Jack the Ripper under a Procyon
Update and more pics... girls are starting to get nice and big. Think I may still have a bug problem, there seems to be a little more yellow spotting. Not alot more, so maybe I slowed them down. I think I read you wait 5 days between Pyretheum applications? I sprayed sunday at like 1 am, so i guess that means friday morning is when i should spray again? I also ordered some neem oil so ill have that on hand by then as well.
Thoughts?

First Grow: Jack the Ripper under a Procyon
WOW! those grew so fast. so have you seen a difference in the LED specturm of light instead of CFL and/or T5 setup. and have there been any pros and cons of LED? but they look healty and look like there gonna treat you well. Nice Greenthumb!
-
First Grow: Jack the Ripper under a Procyon
p.s. whats the neem oil for if you dont mind me asking?
-
First Grow: Jack the Ripper under a Procyon
this is my first grow, actually, so i have nothing to compare my results to... I'm basically just trying to get as good a result or better as WhiskeyTango/Doughboy (SnSStealth)'s first grow, especially with the added CFLs.
The neem oil is for spider mites. Makes the plants extra sticky, from what I understand, and makes them unattractive to pests.
Thanks for the kind words :rastasmoke:

god you people are sooo needy ;)
Sorry been busy at work the last few days, barely even had time to tend to the girls... looking good, gave em some misting with the neem oil last nite. gonna give em one more pyretheum spray tonite bc it looks like the bugs have slowed, but somethin is still munchin these plants.
WT when do you start with your ferts after transplanting into FFoF? I've got my 5 leaf nodes, so theoretically they should be good, but I dont wanna over do it w whats already in the FFoF.
oh, and do you think i should bother trying with LST? these things look like they grow pretty bushy anyway... though i dont know if its the strain, the led+cfl, or both. :wtf:
heres some pics

First Grow: Jack the Ripper under a Procyon
if you want to LST....i would only do 1 or 2 of them...unless you make a big ass screen...lol, let em go i say....they look mighty happy though!!! good shit

Sooo curiosity got the better of me. Put on the 2 Y adapters I bought way back when and shoved in two more 26w bulbs. Now running 204 watts of LED and CFL. Bozo, this bowl's for you :stoned:
Also decided since the plants are 4 weeks old they could do with some fertilizin. Gave em 1 tbsp of Big Bloom in 1 gallon of water.

:D
they look beautiful. so I would grow them big befor I flowered them.
loven the looks of the grow cab also.

First Grow: Jack the Ripper under a Procyon
Gave another pyretheum spray this morning. With some neem oil every couple weeks, these girls should be bug proof now
Theyre getting friggin big--except poor little number nine... who i have a theory on. When i transplanted into the Ocean Forest, the roots were VERY not happy/healthy looking in that shit Hyponex potting soil. So it was probably easier for the bigger plants to bounce back whereas the little one had to start from scratch, almost.
Noticing some weird qualities to the new leaves on two or three plants... not sure if its the heat stress mentioned by the Bible. 78F, 46% in there. CFLs are 12" away, the Procyon 15". is this just because the leaves are new or is this something i should be worried about?

First Grow: Jack the Ripper under a Procyon
hey haven't checked back on this log in a while but those ladies are looking healthy and strong. I'm really not seeing anything weird with the leaves from those pics. and I like the Y adapters, I think they'll do their part even if it doesn't make a huge difference.
keep up the good work, and Lst if you want but I'd wait to see if ya have the space. your call though man.
take it easy

Ya My Brother, They Are Looking & Doing Great, That Was A Good Move Adding The CFL's, Yes The Led's Would Have Be Fine, But A Little Extra Is Away's Better, Hell I Add 400watt's Of Them To My 1000w. HPS, & MH, I Added The UV-CFL's, About A Year Ago, Should have Done It 10 Year's Ago!!!........But Anyway, Your Doing A Great Job,.......Good Luck Through Out Your Grow!!!!

First Grow: Jack the Ripper under a Procyon
they're looking sooooooo freakin nice!!!
that's just how my first ones looked like.
I think I know what you mean about new leaves looking weird... I think they always look weird until they get bigger but I guess that's a normal thing?
If heat's no problem try setting the CFL's to about 6" away, or just let them grow up closer on their own. Either way they're still gonna do awesome, keep it up!
-
First Grow: Jack the Ripper under a Procyon
lookin good spiggity!!.....LST wouldnt hurt, but wait till they open up a lil more....be easy

-
First Grow: Jack the Ripper under a Procyon
yeah im just gonna say eff it on the LST, keep it simple on the first grow.
Made the CFLs hang down from chains now instead of being clamped so tight, which means theyre only 2-3" from the top of the plants now. Here's some pics.
Also fed with some Grow Big and Big Bloom. Gonna just start at week 2 of the FF feeding chart, going half strength on everything while I get a hang for this fertilizing thing. ;)
Thanks for all the kind words everybody, much appreciated. :rastasmoke:

remember spiggity....use the lower amount they give...make sure you are using the SOIL schedule...feed every OTHER watering...this shits important man, i over nuted with that FF real quick first grow...shit is GREAT nutes....and the FFoF is pretty good already...I learned the hard way....just trying to make sure you dont have to:thumbsup:

First Grow: Jack the Ripper under a Procyon
Word... Yeah I keep your first grow log mentally bookmarked WT. Every time I do something I'm like "alright now how did WT do it and how did it go for him" lol.
I only did 2 tsp of Grow Big and 2 tbsp of Big Bloom in 2 gallons of water (the schedule says 2 tsp / tbsp per gallon, so i halved both basically). I will make sure to feed w every other watering as well. As of right now, I need to water every 3 or 4 days. Does that sound right to you?
Also bought two rubbermaid tubs to put the plants in bc draining straight into the growhut is a bad idea. Especially since it doesnt exactly hold the water in, so if I overdo the watering the floor under the growhut gets a lil wet. And the floor under the growhut is concrete. In a dark cellar. So yeah, thats a recipe for disaster. :wtf:

First Grow: Jack the Ripper under a Procyon
the lights that you are using dont get that hot, so i would say that the amount you are watering is fine. if the soil is damp then you dont want to water. also if your plants are droopy they probably need water if the soil is dry. Good Luck! cant wait too see flowering
-
First Grow: Jack the Ripper under a Procyon
yeah 3-4 days is where i was at in flowering

Alright, so update. Getting preflowers on all of the girls except the late plant. Will give her until Sunday and then I'm going to 12/12.
Girls are all between 6 and 10". Starting to crave water a little more... wonder if thats having the CFLs so close to them... gotta move em up every 2 or 3 days.
Been busy and not around, so thankfully the girls have been doing fine on autopilot the last week. Hope to check in more this week as things progress.
Prolly need to transplant to 3 gals once I switch to flowering, huh?

I cant wait till your plants are harvested. Im really interested in seeing how your LED's work out in bud harvest.
-
First Grow: Jack the Ripper under a Procyon
It sure looks like you've tried growing before.
I don't know jack about growing in dirt, but yeah I guess a transplant before the 12/12 switch would be good.... maybe give them a few days or so to get over any shock first.
Have you noticed any smell yet?
-
First Grow: Jack the Ripper under a Procyon
It's looking great man and you seem to have a gentle touch with your plants.
I personally think LED is the future so this is interesting to me fo sure.
Once the prices go down people will start switching to these babies more and more.
Nice job so far and gl in the future.

they friggin stink, have for awhile lol. Not to the point where they leak out of the grow tent, but when you first unzip it, its such a beautiful scent. I heard thats common trait of Jack Herer and its offspring, but I dunno.
Thanks, too... I have never tried growing but I spent a solid 2 or 3 months gathering every little bit of knowledge here on cann-com. Not sure if its Fox Farm, the JackTR, or just beginner's luck but these plants have been very kind to me so far.

Yeah I was always keen on the idea of growing pot; WhiskeyTango's experiences with the Procyon though pushed me over the edge, it seemed like a really fool-proof light. And so far, it is... :D
Thanks for all the nice comments again, everyone... highly appreciated :rastasmoke:

so hows the led light working out for U?
and UR lil ones R looking great.

First Grow: Jack the Ripper under a Procyon
so i learned a valuable lesson today. being a good pothead does not necessarily make you a good pot grower. (actually, its prolly the opposite lol) somehow, i forgot to water the GD plants all week. two of them are quite shriveled. Not "im dead for good" shriveled, but "uhh i fuckin hate you and its gonna take me some time to recover" shriveled. I hope. Having never grown before, I dunno if plants can bounce back from such neglect (6 days between waterings... granted its normally 3 or 4 under LED + CFL so perhaps not as bad as if I were using HPS/MH...)
So, watered them thoroughly (also sprayed a little to get some water to the leaves), then moisture metered each plant to make sure they didnt need _more_ water... I think thats part of the problem, my grow closet / area is such GD tight that its really hard to moisture meter the plants in the back. I kind of just go by the front few and then water the plants as a group. I know youre supposed to water them individually, but I have to pull them all out to do so (much easier since I put them all in 2 rubbermaid buckets, ps... also keeps the drainage off my growhut floor, which is an added bonus) and therefore my lazy ass doesnt wanna do it that way... I guess flowering will be easier since there will be less plants...
Also switched in my 2700k bulbs for the 5500k's I had in there, because tonight these girls are going on 12/12. They're all at least 10" tall and they're 50 days old, so I think they're ready. Still cant tell much from the preflowers, not sure if JackTR is just a slow preflowerer or its 24/0 or LEDs or just being a noob... I figure at 50 days old even with the setbacks I've had, they should be mature enough.
Oh, and some stats. Got a kill-a-watt the other day.
Procyon = 125 watts
Exhaust fan (4" vortex w/ fan controller about 1/3 strength) = 40 watts
Circulating fan = 24 watts
4 CFLs (veg) = 108 watts (4 x 26w 5500K)
4 CFLs (flower) = 92 watts (4 x 23w 2700k)
Whole operation pulls about 3.2 Amps and just under 300 watts (veg, around 275W on flower).
Cool shit. That means in flowering it'll be 275W half the day, only 64W the other half (LOL). LEDs rule.

First Grow: Jack the Ripper under a Procyon
Wow looking great doc, i wouldn't worry about them going a couple extra days without water, they'll bounce back ;)
Can't wait to see them buds grow :D
-
First Grow: Jack the Ripper under a Procyon
Girls bounced back just fine... all gained 1-3 inches since Sunday. Right now I'm thinking 2 definite males, 2 definite females, 1 maybe female, and 3 maybe males. I'm gonna have to wait and see a few more days before I can be more positive.
I also think I may have to water every 2 or 3, not 3 or 4 days... the CFLs, while still pretty cool, seem to make the girls get thirsty more often when added to the Procyon.
Here's some pics. First pic is LED + CFL on, other 4 are only CFL. Only have like another 6 inches to raise my lights, so I'm not sure how that'll work... I guess by the time I thin the girls out in the next week we'll see.
