And there are far too many people who can't do what they enjoy because of some sort of restriction, and ignorant of the fact that this person would be so much more productive in that place than the inevitable one guy who's working there just cause he needs money. Sucks how we all just slave for cash...but we have to.Quote:

12 hour work days, then another 2 or 3 hours of paperwork, *EVERY DAY*, then there is the 5 - 7 semester hours of continuing education and training every year to keep up with the ever changing technologies, and investing every extra penny back into the company.
To start a successful business today, you need a *MINIMUM* of $50,000 in start-up seed money, plus a years salary. I would also highly recommend some business courses at the local JC.
Good record keeping and book keeping is paramount. I get audited every 3 years whether I need it or not. Be able to track where every penny went (literally). Get a very good tax preparer, and put 30% of your gross profits in a seperate savings account so when it comes time to write those checks to the IRS, you *have* the money in the bank.
FWIW, it take a minimum of 5 years to make or break for a start-up company.
If you make it past the first year, you have done better than 90% of the other new start-up companies, if you make it to 5 years, your have pretty much beaten the odds, but.... the longer your company is in business, the more you have to work to *STAY* in business.
The best advice I can give is... *NEVER* be the low bidder, *NEVER* do "cheap", *ALWAYS* work to be the very best at your vocation.
Heard in the local grocery..."Mr Steve isn't cheap, but he is really really good"
Yup. That's what I say about my mechanic. He charges more per hour than the dealership, but he's been wrenching VWs since God was a child and works much faster and more efficiently than the $10 per hour techs with the clean polo shirts :DQuote:

owning your own business is GREAT and lots of fun, but it is 100x more work than just getting a job and working somewhere and forgetting about it when you go home at 5. being a business owner means you are at work every second you're awake and if you aren't, you're doing it wrong.

My favourite job is custom spraypainting vehicles , it's rewarding in so many ways.
Rust bucket to beauty is a good feeling , the expertise to do it isn't cheap either :D
If you like your job you will be so much better at it.
I was a structural engineer for a long time too.
I used to call myself a student, then I heard about a better job and switched. Freelance social observationist. Never get a gig, but the benefits are great.
I manage a research lab. My second occupation is trying to get laid as often as possible . :)
I'm a student and it's usually as dull as it sounds. :D
i drive heavy hauler at suncor in the alberta oilsands.
komatsu 930e 320 tonne and cat 797 haulers
I'm a student, studying music management...so I sit around 3 days a week discussing what band is better and which video was cooler...it's pretty much awesome.
Im a radio Presenter.....and involved in production!
DEA agent. I specialize in busting small grow-ops and computer surveillance.
Im profesional Giggalo, or some might call Man Whore, I make the world a better place by spreading the love, and planting seed like ghingus kahn
One day I want to patent something related to growing weed that can be used for growing other plants as well and make a fortune. I've got a basic idea right now, but patent law says once an idea is published in a magazine or public forum it is un-patentable. So... you'll have to wait for the infomercial. ;)
Right now I'm in law school full time. My fall-back is to become a patent attorney and represent large corporations as they sue each other over frivolous patent claims. Nothing is better for lawyers then rich people suing the pants off each other.
No drug testing at most law firms, from what I hear. Like the restaurant biz someone mentioned earlier... if they drug tested they would have to fire 75% of their work force.
I'm taking the "Patent Bar Exam" this summer. You don't have to be a lawyer to take it, it just certifies you to file patents on behalf of others. I figure then I'll be able to patent my own idea. I would just hire a lawyer to do it... but after my first year of law school I have decided that I trust lawyers about as far as I can throw 'em!
i am a server in a fish house rester aunt............making as much legal money as possble.............:stoned:
I'd love to learn more about this, as it's something I'm really interested in. Any hints where I could start?Quote:

I started with a BS in fisheries and wildlife conservation and a summer job at a hydroponic pesticide free commercial scale basil production facility. Then went to Alaska to work in the fishing industry. Keeping a balance between taking what you need and leaving enough to sustain the environment for another season is important, and working in the food production industry was eye-opening. I've also worked at several restaurants (back of house, with the exception of a 9 year part-time bar manager stint) and have the interest in food. It just seems like it all comes together, and this site has really honed my practical indoor growing skills enough that I feel confident about year-round indoor crop production even in New England.Quote:

I too am in college, going for my network administration/information technology degree....I also work part time for one of the largest banks in the US....It pays decent, but I really, *really* hate the job I do...Im a collector, lets put it that way :(
On the plus side, I am pretty much guaranteed a job with the economy the way it is!
Off to study for my Cisco final....*sigh*
Worked as a full-time bus boy for 7 months after High School.... HATED IT.. decided to be self employed. Now working as a logger doing small jobs that big companies don't do.
That TV show Axeman, I do that, but there is just 1 of me, instead of 6-8 on the work site.
I was very lucky my father knew how to run a company and take care of equipment. I wouldn't be doing this today if he didn't have the tractor, cat, saws that I use today(My father has started and sold both company's and now lives worry free)
There is nothing that I know of better than the sound of a 200-400 year old giant falling. I personally think that logging needs a new route in how we built our houses or general uses of wood, but for now, Im glad i am able to experience it cause in another 2 generations all they will be cutting down is tree farm trees the width of normal car tire.
Oh and I replant and don't clear cut. Also sell firewood on the side, and send semi rotted trees to be turned into sawdust(Which is more money than actual trees sometimes because of the current market being pretty terrible.)
and unban my other account, it was up @ 4/25
If i let you know what i do i would have to kill you, so i wont tell
I work for a factory that ships out boxes of food. I make 300-400 a week and yes we had to get a drug test at the beginning, so I had to not smoke weed for a couple months. After the drug test im happy becuase THERES NO ANNUAL DRUG TEST YAYYYY. So yeaaaaa thats wut I doooo
I am a Project Manager at one of the countryâ??s biggest Drapery and Rigging manufacturers. It's awesome, the pay is good and they never tested me.. not to mention they know I'm high half the time but donâ??t complaine.
I am still a student. But I do have a job at a Bob's Store. I am part of the "Replenishment Crew." But thats a fancy way of saying the guys that take all the clothes/footwear off the truck, size em, categorize em, and fool around. But it SUCKS and im quitting soon. I figure why work 5 hours on thursdays and 7 hours on sundays when i can just work on sundays at a grocery store and make time and a half.
i am a pizza maker (not the pizza hut one with the frozen pre-made dough and instructions on the wall on how to make everything, an actual pizza maker that has to make everything from scratch). i am starting school in the fall for 3d animation and modeling and will probably have this pizza job until i finish college
Bum
I'm a factory worker. We make electrical motors (handmade)
