Blue Apollo - Flowering Picture Log
Shows what I know....thanks for the info. I use LK to help stabilize ph mostly (rhizome mentioned to me he thought that about 5-7 mls/gal of LK were all a plant would use and the rest was pretty much wasted) so I don't go above 7 as a rule. But I do love my LK.....maybe i'll have to drop my H202 and use cannazyme from the start.

Here's my wonderful molasses story if you'd care to read.......interestingly my hydro guy tells me that he honestly doesn't think plants will use more than about 10ml/sweet per gallon and basically any oher carbs, etc, are....again....wasted. I cant tell you if it's true or not.....but I honestly haven't found him to be wrong yet.

Day 29 (02/04/2008)
The problems with the molasses from last week are still evident. The plants have not consumed as much water and nutrients and they have not grown as much. I rinsed the roots again and changed them to a tub with 400ppm of nutrients and hydrogen peroxide to help clean them some more.

Day 29 - Part 2 (02/04/2008)
Did some trimming up the budsites caught below the canopy. Here are some pics of the dried buds from the trimming.
Also a pic of the AK-99 (she just preflowered so we culled rest) and one of the mother plant after it's pruning two weeks back.

Day 35 (02/10/2008)
The effects of the molasses debacle from a few weeks back is still more than evident. I believe I had a decent fungal infection in my reservoir, which allowed the roots to rot. They did not grow and swell as much as predicted the last week and a half, no doubt due to the essentially non-existent roots. The leaves have also begun to yellow and die earlier than expected because they have been the primary source of food (once again, because of the dead roots).
I removed a lot of the rotted roots to make space for the new root growth they've been putting forth, and they're getting a liberal dose of Hydroguard for the remainder of flowering to help remedy this situation and prevent it from coming back.
They are at 1600ppm now, with the GH 3-part, Cal-Mag, Liquid Karma, Sweet, Hydroguard, Hydroplex, and Koolbloom.

Day 35 - Part 3 (02/10/2008)
The first picture is the dead and rotten roots. A lot of the browning is from Liquid Karma and other nutrients, so they're not as bad as they look. You can see the new roots poking through... a breath of fresh air (or water) is on the way. Most of the dead roots pulled away easily and I'll get some pictures tomorrow of what they look like now.
The last pictures are of the new tub in flowering (one week in). There's also pictures of their roots and what roots should look like.

Yah, I had read your post about your troubles with molasses while deciding if we should use it too. I thought I would work my way up from a small amount and all would be ok.... hahahaha!!! They seem to be doing ok now, and are only 2-3 weeks from flush, so I'm not too worried. I guess we should have everything down by the time this next tub ripens.... hopefully, anyways.

When they first start, the nutrient level goes up about a 1/4" from the bottom of the netpot, so the bottom of the netpot actually sits in the nutrient solution. As the roots grow down, the water level is eventually adjusted to about 1-2" below the bottom of the netpot. I like it that way because there is no media to get salt buildups in, so I don't have to worry about flushing the system.
If you're considering going hydro, I'd highly recommend it. It's just as easy as soil, but different. Whichever you decide, make sure it's tailored to your application because each has pros and cons in different areas.

so at some point in time the roots will be sitting in the water???
i have never under stood that because in soil grows u can over water them
yet in hydro grows they just sit in active water(active as in moving bubbling)

At pretty much any point, the roots will be sitting in water, that's what hydroponics is all about. The problem with over-watering soil plants is that the roots will rot and/or die due to suffocation. The roots need a constant supply of oxygen and if your pot is full of stagnant mud, they die. The only reason the roots work in something like a DWC setup is because of the aerated water. By using an air pump and constantly aerating/oxygenating your nutrient solution, the roots receive all the oxygen they need.

I appreciate the compliments everyone and I will try to get some pictures up of the whole tub (12 clones). I have avoided doing so because since the molasses fun, several of the plants stopped growing because their roots were decimated.

Gainseville, whats the blue and white stuff that those clones are sitting in? Got some really beautiful blue-tinged buds there. Lovely

my goodness, what a wonderful and orderly setup
-
Blue Apollo - Flowering Picture Log
As I previously mentioned, a few of the clones' roots did not recover from the molasses and so they stopped growing weeks ago. A few even died and have been drying next to their growing kin. I cut out the dead ones today and they're drying at my buddy's house.

Those are soft foam plugs that hold the cuttings in the lid. The cuttings just slip into a slit on the side.
