Brownies for Beginners ... done right in a couple of hours
I tried to make brownies once. I made them and ate two of them and waited 30 minutes. I had friends telling me to be careful because they said "I would really get out of my head". Anyways, after feeling nothing I ate a couple more, then just decided to eat them all at once. I felt like Kobayashi at a brownie eating contest. Chasing every disgusting piece with water, trying not to puke.
After eating the whole tray, and sitting in front of the tv waiting to feel something, I finally felt like maybe I was sitting next to someone who was toking and I got a second hand drag....but that's it. I gotta try this again some day, as I must have done something seriously wrong......
Sounds like this recipe would be a good place to start.....

I just did my Second batch of brownies today.I was kinda scaed,I diddnt wanna waste my money. But I did it,and it is AWESOME!
I tried grinding up the shake and added Olive oil,I let that sit for 120 hours....5 days.
I used this same recipe and divide the brownies into 4 squares.I ate half of one,It was So Oily. But I ate it and probably an hour later I was so Damn Toasted,I still am.ITs Too Good!
I was cleaning my house and everything,it was weird,I had so much energy all of a sudden and I am feeling too good.I put the rest in the fridge.

StickyfingahZ,
Nice to hear your success story. The fear of screwing up the recipe and wasting precious herb took me a while too. But once I did it and launched into space the fear was gone and I have the perfect cure for my insomnia when I need it.

if i cook the oil how long will the house smell like weed?
-
Brownies for Beginners ... done right in a couple of hours
If it smells like weed your temps are a little bit too high. I cook at night with the back door open to let any small smell escape. It will only stay around until you 'burp' the house and let in new air. Or maybe try an air sanitizer like Oust or something...

I am so making these when I harvest. Has anyone tried cooking it right after harvest, literally skipping drying the herb? I know it would probally taste like plant matter, just wondering.

MVP you often speak of eating them after eating verses not eating having an affect on the effect brownies. I was wondering which way this goes like if they hit sooner if you just ate or take longer if you just ate.

It will hit you quicker and have a stronger effect if you eat brownies on an empty stomach. Also I have eaten them after a workout when my body is in need of nutrients and the absorption rate is higher. If you eat them after a meal there is more material in your system and it slows absorption.

Typically a person should eat 1 brownie, wait 1-1/2 hour, then eat another. Especially those that are inexperienced with brownies. The reason is lots of people get way too high and have to lay down and pass out. Not all people, but many that eat too much too quick...

If it has been more than an hour since you ate the last one then you might wanna chow down another. Personally I wait 2 hours from the last one if I eat 2 or more brownies so they don't kick my ass all at once. As long as you don't have anywhere you have to be and you can veg and crash if they all hit you at once then you could eat more. Just be careful and don't go out driving around or nothing like that....

keep that heat high when cooking. thats the key my friend. alot of people say to keep heat low, over extended periods of time.... but i have found that dosent work at all.
cooking on low heat for 30 minutes is the same as low heat for 30 hours.
it makes no difference on cooking time.
what makes a difference is cooking heat. im not saying burn the fuck out of it..... but you have to get it hot enough for the weed to turn at least red brown.
if the weed is still green, you are not done cooking!!!

MVP: I have a few questions for you, just so I can be aware of any adjustments that I may need to make.
What is your altitude? How many ft above sea level? What are the average humidities your climate has? All of these things drastically affect baking results.
Thanks! It's looking like I'm going to have to take a bit of a long trip next week, and I may need brownies in order to deal with it successfully and without getting into too much trouble.

I am 10 ft above sea level, coastal SoCal climate, humidity 30-50 percent unless a storm comes thru...

Damn. If I make these in my hometown, we'll have almost exactly the same stats (except, I'd be in Texas, not SoCal.)
Sadly, I'd be making these at school..... in which case, I may have to fiddle with a few small details. :-) I think the only thing though would be upping the humidity a slight bit. Not much I can do about the elevation, but that's not so different as to require any changes.
Great. :) Thanks for answering my questions.
Also, I'm considering possibly baking only a half batch, as it would require less time at such a high temperature (and I only want to use an 1/8th of good bud), which hopefully would lead to a very even product. That, and I'd be using a small toaster oven. Yay for student living quarters....

Also, a few other questions after reading your guide: Does the flavor/potency of the oil change when strain it?
I would assume that straining the bud material would lead to less of a "plant" taste, which might improve the flavor of the brownies. However, it might also be accompanied by a reduction in potency, which would be shameful. I'd rather eat weed-flavored brownies at full potency than slightly better-tasting, but weaker ones. I can stomach the weed taste for about 3 bites if I chug something with it, and I think I can get a brownie down in that amount of time :-)
Note: When I chug, it's usually milk if it's weed-related. Gives in some fat in the stomach, which, at the very least, won't hurt your high. Some say having something small with a high fat content just before eating weed improves the high, but I'd rather go for the more conservative "least harm" way of looking at it. Something with fat means that the THC has a secondary medium to help get it into your bloodstream, whereas something like water or a protein drink mgiht just dilute it.
And my other question, regarding flavor, is this: What type of brownie mix do you think makes for the least-bad-tasting product? Would you suggest that I go for a larger or smaller chocolate content? I'd assume blondies would be out, simply because the flavor would NEVER cover up weed, so I was thinking perhaps a very rich chocolate mix would help the flavor out some.
Forgive me for my rambles, but I am high and must attempt this brownie-thing fairly soon (next few days).

Haven't tried it before on a side-by-side basis. Possible but not highly likely.

When in doubt leave the herb in the recipe as long as it is a strongly flavored mix like Double Chocolate, etc.

My favorite is Duncan Hines Double Fudge. I then pick up a jar of Dark Chocolate frosting and they are good tasting treats.

Check out my Cranberry Oatmeal cookies too. They are delicious AND potent.

Darn. I went to rep you and it wouldn't let me! Oh, well, will just have to rep you again at some other point.
Cranberry Oatmeal cookies? My god, man, you're trying to kill me with the awesome foods, aren't you?
"As long as you are high, there are no apologies needed." <--- Great Pot Motto. Same thing I said to my roommate after the first time she introduced me to Mary Jane.
Thanks for all the great answers, very very helpful. If I end up trying it before I leave for my hometown on Saturday (must get more bud first, pray it happens [if you pray]!), I will definitely drop by as soon as I'm back to comment on it. If not, then I'll have to wait to attempt this until after Spring Break is over.
Wow. Went into a rant in this last half of this response, so I'll save you from it and instead go make my own thread. LOL

Number 1: HOLY FUCKING GOD I"M SO DOIN THIS SHIT
Number 2: I just had an interesting thought..
How much do you think one could sell these for? Regularly I'm just a user but I deal to help with the "Billz an shiet", So would the price be based on quantity of bud used to make each brownie, or based on how godly the trip will be?
and I have to proclaim my first brownie experiance that just happened last sunday.
So I go over to this persons house whom I am mildly familiar with, because I was going to work for her (I'm in the scrap metaling trade) and before I go out, she gives me half a cannabrownie. (I didnt know they were cannas till I bit into them..it was funny) And I go out to work for about half an hour. I come back in cause I need my homeslice there, and we spark up this half a joint I had. After we smoke most of that (and that took about another half hour) At this point I'm pretty blitzed, but I didnt realize at the time it was mostly due to the brownie. I drive home, my homies already there, we smoke up the rest of the weed and down half a bottle of Merlot. For some reason, I felt extremly tired at that point (I didnt know why then) and then slept for a good 16 hours. It was fuckin killer.

hey guys, im thinking about making brownies this weekend or next weekend not really sure yet....but heres my situation...
I have about 6.8g of quality buds and i wanna make a batch of brownies...but i dont want them all to be gone after the day i make em! i was wondering if theres anyway u can preserve the brownies like freeze em or something without ruining the brownie.(i want to save a few for 4/20!)
also, how long do you think you can save them for? with having the same results as eating one the day u make a batch.....Thanks!!
P.S.- can anyone tell me what the high is like from brownies compared to firecrackers? Ive made firecrackers a few times and am starting to get tired of em so im trying something new...
-
Brownies for Beginners ... done right in a couple of hours
Blazed,
If you make them this weekend and then keep them in the fridge for a couple of weeks, I do not find a noticeable deterioration
in potency. For longer term storage I put them in a seal-a-meal and then freeze them. That is another good option to help you resist the temptation to help yourself to a couple since they are in the fridge. Frozen they require a lot more effort to pilfer...

:jointsmile:I've had some brownies and other edibles before, but never felt like they did what they were supposed to do. I was told that when making some good brownies you need at least an ounce of buds to have enough thc in each brownie, to produce substantial results. Is this the right amount to put into one batch of homemade dankness or am i approaching this recipe entirely wrong??

Rider,
It takes somewhere between .25 - .50 grams per serving for most people to get very, very high. Using an oz of good herb in a batch of brownies is overkill, IMO...

OH MY GOODNESS. This sounds SO delicious! I have NEVER tried cooking/baking with cannabis and I have been smoking for over 10 years now. :wtf:
Lol, well.. there is always a first for everything! I plan to surprise my friends with a batch and I am so excited. Haha. Of course it will have to be later when I get my drug test results back. I had to take one for a new job recently.
Anyways, thank you so much for posting this! I wish I could make this right NOW but I will have to control myself. It is hard... *sigh* But, I will definitely let you know how it goes. Thanks again!!!

So I am wondering, I don't have access to a crock pot, but a rice cooker. Any theories to how this would affect cooking time? I know rice cookers work a bit faster, so I am thinking I can go with a little over an hour, but I don't know if it would be worth it rather than just using the pan technique?
Thanks!

Hey MVP, do you still melt the same amount of coconut oil(whats specified by the brownie package) and use the same amount of bud(.25-.50 per serving) when using the crockpot method of making the oil?

I use the same proportions of oil to herb whether using the "quick" stove top method or the slower crock pot method.

I can't wait to try these, but first i have a couple of questions. How long does the weed/oil smell stay in the crockpot? The shwag i smoke normally gets me high after 1-2 bowls, would that be enough for a 16-brownie batch?
-

Sorry MVP, last question. When you use a crock pot, do you place the oil into an egg cup or coffee cup like Flameon does, or do you just have a thin coat of liquid at the bottom of the crockpot? If you do use an eggcup, will it be the same temperature as the bottom of the crockpot?

wow..
tried this recipe last night.
1/4oz of ak-47.
I had 1 brownie and it knocked me. HARD!
i still feel a bit tweaked out this morning.
I see what you mean about it being not for novice smokers or first timers..
A girlfriend of mine got sick she was so stoned, and she ate about 2/3 of a brownie.
Anyways, good recipe :)
I still have 3 left. wooo!

well, it smells for a while. But don' worry about it. As soon as the brownies are out of the oven, the whole house smells like lovely, baked chocolate goodness :)
So basically, the smell will last until the brownies are ready.

If you use 1/4 oz of shwag that gets you high then you might have to eat 2-3 brownies to get it done, but it has worked for me using similar quality herb.
The smell will subside after the brownies are done cooking, so you will need a safe kitchen area for about 2 hours on average. :smokin:
