I have seen how much those players are, stand-alone players. However, what other people fail to probably take into account is that Sony is selling this is an entertainment home console whatever whatever, and there are other things in the PS3 besides that bluray player. So, besides having to pay for the bluray player parts, which are probably expensive, they are putting other expensive parts in it as well. So, my point is, is that Sony probably isn't putting in bluray players that don't compare to home bluray players. When the PS2 first came out, the DVD players in them sucked; I constantly had it scratch disks and then simply refuse to play disks at all. Why? Because the hardware was all cheap, used to cut costs and sell it at a cheaper price to sell more product. I'm going to go off of a limb here and say that I think that Sony is, more than likely, doing the exact same thing with the PS3: cheaper parts, cheaper product. So, regardless of how much of a "save" it is, I'm sure that people will have to turn in their machines at their local Wal-Mart or wherever for a new one just like the PS2s.
The only thing I like about the 360s, at least the Elites, is that Microsoft is using primo parts for the Elites, parts that are, almost, guaranteed never to fail, unlike their white counterparts. The product justifies the price with the Elites. The 60 gig PS3 justifies $500.00 price tag, in my opinion. Though, I think its ridiculous they're going to be "phasing them" out and selling the 80 gig with a POS racer and selling it for *GASP* 600 bucks, AGAIN!
Edit:
PS: Thanks for the games titles, I'll probably buy...1 or 2 of those with the console, and wait/rent the others out.
i can't wait till they come out with another fight nite
they were easy for me... the game starts getting really weird after awhile, did you ever get far into it?Quote:

naw i just played the demo
i know a game that looked good was blazing angels 2 i played the online demo and it's pretty good

and for originality factor, blazing angels is definately sweet... i own squadrons of wwii... it's a great game...
33 percent failure rate, yea maybe when it first came out, but not anymore and not for a long time. More sales for the 360 means it's better. Too bad the ps3 was too slow, microsoft created a cheaper and great system a year quicker. They win. You may not like halo but so many more people do like it. There's a reason why it's the most anticipated game in while and why company's actually pay out money to the winners of halo tournaments..
RR nothing personal... so don't take it that way..

DailyTech - Retailers Estimate Xbox 360 Failure Rate High as 33 Percent
also take notice, this is from july 07... the failure rate is there, even consoles being shipped now, if you have evidence point otherwise, provide it.Quote:
One often overlooked factor when considering a console purchase is reliability, an area that is apparently where the Xbox 360 falls short.

first, refer to the quote above, next...
EETimes.com - Microsoft Xbox sales fall 60% as problems mount
and more so..
PS3's two-week sales figures surge 135 percent - PlayStation 3 News at GameSpot
(360 WAS top, it's rapidly failing and falling. truth of the matter is for the first year of next gen, people had two choices, WII or 360... then the failure rate hit, really impacting sales...)
Too bad the ps3 was too slow, microsoft created a cheaper and great system a year quicker.
well sure, if you want a cheaper more screwed up system, ok... just IMO here, but i'm glad sony took the time to extensively test their product and fix problems (may i cite: Failure Rate: Xbox 360 High As 33% - Sony PS3 & Nintendo Wii Less Than 1% | ripten)
They win.
this 'war' is far from over actually... just wait... think of this as the tortise and the hare... 360 being the hare, had speed on it's side... but who wins in the story? (btw, have you bothered to look up the massive ammount of games coming out for ps3 by the end of next year? not only will ps3 rival quality, by next year, it will also rival the sheer number of games)
You may not like halo but so many more people do like it.
got me there and i won't even bother inserting my opinion (which may i say, that MANY share, even xbox owners and sony haters themselves) but hell.. everyone loved goldeneye release on 64 too... doesn't mean it isn't past the times now... i suspect the reason most still love it, is merely the attachment and keeping up with the story line... i can tell you now, if goldeneye came out with a more high def and online version for the ps2/3/pc i'd have to have it as well...
that doesn't make it a great game, only makes it a popular game which i never debated... i only debate the quality of it, not the popularity.. hell i'd be stupid to try and argue it's popularity
There's a reason why it's the most anticipated game in while
you are most certainly correct here, but not for the reason you're trying to project here... halo came out on xbox.. show me one absolutely amazing GREAT game on xbox that ps2 didn't have.... i'll honestly judge it.. but i've seen most of what it had to offer...
lots of halo fanboys because they opted for xbox and quite honestly of that system, it was one of the better games to choose from... not becuase it was a godly game, just becuase that's what there was to choose from (again, show me otherwise, i'll judge honestly, on gameplay, graphics, and originality definately is a plus [i.e. isn't a game found on other systems that they just ripped off and gave it their own twist])
and why company's actually pay out money to the winners of halo tournaments..
sorry if i'm the first to break it to you, but these gaming competitions have been around forever, and guess what? the winners always get paid... it isn't just halo, nor xbox games...
again nothing personal... just think of as an education, and i'm more than open to any you may provide, except for the parts i've stated were opinon, it is solid cold hard fact... not fan boy inspired opinion, rumor, or info heard from the grape vine.
im not a big halo fan and when halo2 was coming out it was supposed to be so much better than the first and yet it was the same as the first no diffrent and i played the demo of halo3 and i still see no diffrence it still just run and gun no strategy involved i want something with sum depth to it and halo lacks that big time.sos i say and as far as goldeneye 4 64 now that was a very good game for it's time 1 of the best i think along with a game called shadowrun for snes and i might add they really fucked up the remake of it totally im so pissed that they fucked that game up it could have been such a good game.thats why i like rb6 series so much it's tactical and not just run and gun as much as the others.and im hoping endwar will add to that
Hey CC I coulnt watch all of it but I am sure it come out for PS3 and usualy a week before the 360 version. I have already seen the PS3 package and game it self just never played it. At this years E3 their was sopposobly 3 GTA4's for play on PS3.
i love this thread, slipknotpsycho, you make me laugh and i gotta respect you because of your conviction. but at the end of the day everyone has got their own opinons. i know you keep talking about reliabity and thats a fair issue, but due to that issue all 360's now have a 3 year warranty and not once have you mentioned the overheating issues with ps3's in japan, which caused a huge comotion and sony delt with it quite poorly.
as for games, i am an xbox fan, i was playstation the previous round, but there where so many mediocre games i found it to be the same with the ps2. it has to be said that xbox live is a far superior online system than playstations and this is to be commended.
you previously slated microsoft and i can understand why, it was annoying that they pushed other companies to the wayside, but a court settlement and stricter guidelines settles that. they are a massive company, but they do a lot of good. i'd just like to ask what os do you run ?
i was privelaged enough to help bug test vista before it was released, due to my job and it really is a wikid operating system. it has many advantages over xp and media center and feels like they have really listened to the customers as it is exceptionally user friendly and has many diagnostic and bug fixin interfaces built into it.
as for the games well, competetition between systems is healthy it keeps developers looking for new killer apps and keeps the market competitive. i do think and agree with whats been said before that there are no tru next gen apps, but this to me is because the majority of gamers aren't hardcore, they like sports/racing/platform games, that they can pick up and play. this is no more apparent buy the surprising success of the wii, something which i commend nintendo for, they saw a gap in the market and filled it. it has also got ot be said that on of probably the best last gen games i played resident evil 4 was orginally ONLY release on the gamecube.
there is no winner in the console race, as for all the points you raised about the 360 being the most sold, will then apply to the ps3. its about personal choice and what you intend to do.
but as for hd dvd and blu ray, well who knows. i still remember beta max and vhs, and beta max was superior in quality. i think an included blu ray is really false bonus because theres not alot you can do with it at the moment.
peace

ps got my 360 elite today
i'm still yet to hear how xbox live is better... i mean you pay for it, but that doens't make it better.. (the only thing i'd heard on it, was before i had mine, and it was something along the lines of being able to track your friends game to game, rather then having to add them in each game, having voice chat, being able to download and even buy upgrades/extras and download 'em straigh to the system... ALL of which is available on PSN, for free... (other then the games/extras you choose to buy, but they do have alot of free stuff as well... the buying has nothing to do with PSN, but the developers... they decide whether to put it out for free or charge you for it)Quote:

yes, microsoft did what was right by extending the warranty, but if you ask me, that shouldn't have ever been an issue in the first place.. i don't know if you can understand this, but i do not want my system to crap out, just to have to send it to the company just becuase they couldn't get it right the first time (360 also has heat issues.. matter of fact.. if you want, i can find the report on what all xbox changes when you send it in... it's quite alot... most noteably (and important concerning heat) is the heatsink...
when it comes down to it, i honestly feel 360 is a shotty system becuase microsoft pushed it out too fast...
ps3's tho, atleast here, don't have an over heating problem... and even more so, you can buy an attatchment (if you'r ethat worried about it) for 20-30 bucks that eleminates all fear of over heating... i have it, but it's not becuase i needed it, it's just that i had alot fo money to spend, and i didn't wanna take any chances... i don't even have to use it...
as for the rest of your post, i commend YOU on being able to actually discuss the subject, rather then the typical "my system owns yours" :p
and i do run vista, and as i've said, it is a very nice system, just extremely buggy (according to what i've heard tho, the first service pack, which means solutions, is coming before 2008...)
i've never used anything other then windows, but that doesn't mean i'm happy with microsoft... it's just what i started on, before i really knew anything (much less what i know today microsoft represents) and i'm far too stubborn to get used to a new OS.... actually i'd go back to XP SP2 if it weren't for 2 reasons...
1. i paid alot extra for my 'media center pc' and it's remote option (it's pretty much my entire entertainment system, i use it to watch movies, tv shows, stand up comedy, even listen to music) 2. i'm sure vista will outdo xp in time (windows has only gotten better with every installment) and i don't want to have to go back and buy vista all over, when they finally get things straightened out.
as you said tho, everyone has their opinions.... and microsoft (atleast from what i've seen) has NEVER stood for reliablity... and that is a serious problem for me... to me it'd be the same as buying a car, and never knowing when it'll actually start for you.. instead of that, i'd just pick a diffrent car..
i like all systems i don't like narrowing my gaming options down to just 1 system. there are good things about both, and slipnot ur looking for something that will never be "100%" no gaming system or anything for that matter will ever be 100%. it just won't and anything thats massed produced like gaming machines, and the fail rate will only go up.and even though there were heat issues and such with the 360, im sure thankful they came out 2 years ago or how ever sooner than ps3 it was, cause i could'nt imagine still playing xbox. i'd be bored out of my mind, and thats the thing atleast they got it out there for us to play. and have something new to do, it was long enough. xbox was out for what 5/6 years b4 a new system came out something like that, it was gettin old.
and even though there were problems with the system, i did'nt loose out u are acting as if people were wasting there money buying it. i bought 2 at launch and they both lasted a year but i did'nt loose any money i went and traded them in to walmart and got brand new ones, so no loss here and other people just turned them in to ms and got them fixed. and i don't know how into games u are but i don't see how u played without something new for so long ti'll the ps3 came out what were u playing ps2?? man that would have got old to me. i mean it's still a good system but with gaming i always like whats coming out next i like all games and as soon as the games start to pump out for the ps3 im gettin one so...
good to see you rocking the vista, i love it. but it is a blatent rip of macs os 10.i run vista, linux on my pc and os 10 and xp through boot camp on my mac. gotta say there are alot of better companies out there than microsoft and im all for the freeware, but back to the cars, microsoft is like the ford of the computing world, in the sense that it brought it to the masses.
you can by those aftermarket fans for the 360, i have one on mine, in black of course. was only 15 and i considered it a worthy investment.
i didnt realise that psn was free. ive only had a breif amount of time to play with it, so it could just be familiarity that was pining me thorugh.
i will eventually have to by a ps3 for mgs4. im was really torn cus the next gen is finishing two major vide game story arcs on 2 systems that really are my favorite games, halo and mgs.
i know alot of people talk about halo and dont get it, but the mechincs of the game are superior to any other console fps i have played online. its versitile, well thought out and fun to do so. it also has a great pick up and play factor with an intense learnig curve.
reliability is a big issue, but it was ibm, i think who didnt warn them of the problems they already knew about with the architecture of the previous chip. as they had been using them for sometime. the ownus is on microsoft as they design the 360 which when u look inside is very cramped. but they have remedied it go falcon chips.
still its good to ge some healthy debate going. i get sick of reading fanboy posts. based on mindless brand loyalty
peace
ps duality owns :P
I can't be bothered rite now to answer all that, so i'm just gonna agree to disagree. I'm just glad my 360 hasn't broken yet, 33% failure rate is unnaceptable. I may end up with both consoles one day so, enjoy gaming, that's what's really important.Quote:
