First Grow from Bagseed w/Pics
Midweek 5 update. I finally got to sex some of the younger 6 plants i have. So far i got 2 males which have been taken care of and 1 female. I should know the sex of the other 3 in a few days. Although i dont hope for males i'm happy to have the extra space in my closet. I'll have another update tommorow night with some pics of the plants.
Peace

Today is the start of week 4 of flowering for Candice. My post last week was titled "Week 9" but was incorrect it was actually week 8. She was vegged for 5 weeks before starting 12/12. A few days ago she was looking sad because of me cutting her water down because of those damn gnats. She got a good drink today with bloom ferts and molasses. Hoping she starts to put the buds on soon. She is the lone survivor of the first 4 plants I started.
On to the 2nd wave. These plants were vegged for 3 weeks and are starting week 3 of 12/12 tonight. After killing 2 males last night i discovered another this evening and it got the axe and I am suspecting that another one is male but am giving it a few more hours to change my mind. That puts my ratio so far at 2 females 6 males 2 unsure. I think i figured out why i've been getting so many males. My temp has been fine through the entire grow(80f-85f) but i never measured the humidity until last night and it was at 85% last night and at 95% tonight. So i'm gonna get my ass in to town tommorow and get a dehumidifier. I have decided to name the newest female April. No reason why just like the name.
I purchased a 16oz jar of molasses yesturday for $3.00 and that brings my total to $171.00

Quick update. I think the 2 plants i am unsure of are female now. I can definately see pistils on both plants but they have 2 weird circlular looking things on them. They dont look like pollen sacks but not sure yet. Hope they arent hermie. Gonna give em a few more days to be sure.
Wally world didnt have a dehumidifier that would accommodate my grow rooms size or my budget so I got one of ebay along with a few other things.
32 oz portable dehumidifier with shipping - $49
15" used desk lamp with shipping - $8.50
Dual bulb Y socket adapter with shipping - $9.00
Total for the day - $66.50
Total for grow - $237.50 (damn) My goal is to keep total initial start up costs under $300 for this grow.
I am gonna use that lamp with the Y adapter and use the 2 - 25watt cool cfl bulbs i already have in it for supplemental lighting on the lower parts of the plants.

I just noticed that no one has posted on here in almost a week. Does anyone care about this log or am I just wasting my time here?

i just saw this post and will be following ya miley, keep up the good work. What was your experience with getting the seeds, i was thinking of going to Canada and getting some but i wasnt sure if the mail order thing works all that well... let me know your thoughts and keep posting....
as for your cats, last thing you want to see is coming home one day to find your cats sitting on the couch with a bag of cat snacks on one side, your plant clippings on the other holding the ps3/xbox controller fast asleep sprawled out.....

Hey Smell thanks for the reply and for keeping tabs on this grow. The seeds i am growing now are just bagseed i've saved over the years but i recently purcahsed seeds from Gypsy Nirvana's Seed Boutique. I got 10 papaya seeds and they sent me 5 free skunk crosses. I ordered off their site with a credit card and the seeds came 5 days later in a very discreet package. I am gonna put 4 of them into germ tonight and see how it goes. I'll get pics as soon as they sprout.
Hey 420 thanks for the response. Definately check your humidity once you get into flowering. I dont think its such a big deal in veg as long as your between 50%-90% but once into flowering it is important that the humidity be no higher then 65% and down to 50% during the last few weeks.
Peace

That would be sweet "Smell". I'd sit down next to em, hit their pipe, grab the other controller, and whip their ass at the game. lol.
Hey Blackout. Definatly will keep ya posted on the papaya. THanks for the props on the setup even though most experienced growers will argue with you but its all i can afford and fit in my space right now. As long as you can produce 50watts per cubic foot your ok and i am almost there.

Hey Popabean. Thanks for the support. It nice to see that people are actually checking this grow out. I am not claiming to have the biggest or best grow here. What am i trying to accomplish is a decent to nice crop from bagseed with easy to use and cheap lighting on a tight budget. Hopefully if all goes well this can be a nice example of how easy it can be for regular joes to grow dope.

Well heres tonights quick update. I got a small one bulb socket with cord and a clamp from my brother today. I threw a 25 watt cool cfl in it and made a hillbilly reflector with a soda can cut in half. That brings my total wattage up to 252. Right now that makes me 28 watts short of 50 watts a cu ft. I have another dual cfl socket coming in the mail this week and that will put me over 280 watts and past my bench mark.
After watching a video on you tube about using co2 while growing I decided to try to make my own small co2 bubbler. Dont know if it will helps the plants at all but its neat and I felt like macgyver while i was making it. lol. All it is is a 5 oz baby bottle that I cut 2 square inch holes in toward the top. Thats it. For the first test I used 2 tps of baking powder in the bottle. Then I took the nipple and stuck it inwards into the bottle and let it rest there. Filled the nipple up with white vinegar and let gravity do its thing. It took about 5 mins for it to completely drain and about 15 mins to stop bubbling. I was pretty happy with how it worked. Like i said before i dont know if it will help but wtf didnt cost me anything except 10 mins of my time.
Over the last week i have been trimming a few of the lower shade leaves off the plants every few nights. This is allowing the light to reach all the lower bud sites on the plants and the lost growth of the removed leave is quickly replaced by new undergrowth that looks great. It also allows for better air flow which helps alot in this stage of growing.
Well i discovered tonight that the 2 plants i was unsure of are females for sure. Definitely see pistils on them but I am gonna keep a close eye on them for a few days just in case they decided to go hermie. I named them anyways. "May" and "June". I decided to stick with the month theme i started with april. Since i only have 4 plants now that are all over 1 foot tall and because my main lights are on a slope i decided to lay June horizontally across the floor. This will allow her to use the wasted light towards the front of the grow room and she should develop really good side growth. Just hope its not too much stress on her. Time will tell. Not worried though if she does go hermie.
Since I put 4 papaya seeds to germ tonight I decided I better get another veg light. Mainly beacuse all my other lights are in the flowering room now. So i got on ebay and got a FLUOREX 65 WATT CFL HIGH-OUTPUT LIGHT. It's compact and puts out almost as much light as my shop lights. It should work well for seedlings.
Total for light with shipping - $36.50
Total for grow - $274.00
Money left - $26.00
If i can get at least 2 ounces from this grow it will pay for itself. Keep your fingers crossed.

Ya my setup is kinda ghetto as well but for starting out, I don't see the problem with fluorescents, they are cheap and get the job done.. I have one 42w CFL right now and am picking up another today, I'll probably add a dual 26w CFL setup strictly for side lighting.. as soon as I get my bagseed to germinate I'm ordering some papaya and start my SoG... good luck with yours I'll be checking back regularly to see ur progess!

Hey Black out its ok about being ghetto. My grow started out like that and pretty much still is. Theres alot of info on here saying that all things need to be a certain way and they do to an extent but just because you dont have a super sanitary grow room and no hid lights doesnt mean you still cant get a good crop. I mean it definitely helps but is not always necessary. Keep me posted on how its going. Good choice on the papaya as well. I have no experience with it yet but what i have learned is that it is an easy to grow plant that flowers quickly stays short. I'll get pics of mine up as soon as they sprout.

I'm with ya on that pope. I mean how many first time growers actually have the money to go all out on the first one. I know damn well i am tired of over paying for the shitty weed thats mostly available in my area. 5 more weeks and i'll have my own good shit hopefully.

Well it only took 2 days and all 4 of my papaya seeds sprouted using the standard wet paper towel method. I put them into their first containers today and hoepfully that new light i order gets here before they break through the soil. Cant wait to get some pics of them for you. Should i just post pics of them in this thread or should i make another grow log specifically for them? Let me know.

You might have a little trouble with the PH adjuster from the pet store...I read somewhere that it is designed not to make drastic changes...You want the stuff from the flower store.

Hey Miley, Looking nice man, I cant wait to see what a monster your little lady will turn into. When do you plan on popping your store brought seeds?
-
First Grow from Bagseed w/Pics
Hey Popa. Btw sorry for calling you pope before it was a typo. Though i did laugh when i re-read it because I have a cat named "The pope" lol. Thanks for the heads up about the ph adjuster. I checked my tap water today and it was 7.3 so I used 3 drops of the ph down to 1/2 gallon of water and that bought it down to 6.8. I am gonna test it several more times tonight just to make sure.
Hey Skrappie thats for stopping by. I cant wait till shes done. Just paid $70 for another crappy 1/4 tonight. :( I sprouted 4 of my papaya seeds 4 days ago and last night all 4 reached the surface of the soil. I just finshed constructing my veg room in the corner of my closet tonight and they will be left in there for 3-4 weeks depending on how fast they grow.
Peace

Here are the pics as i promised. This is the start of week 5 of flowering and the 10th week total and Candice is starting to get pretty tall and thick. Even though i trimmed some fan leaves she filled that space already. Hope she doesnt get much bigger. I noticed yesterday that some of her leaves are curling under a bit. Any ideas? My dehumidifier came in today. Thank god! My humidity in there tonight was 91% so hopefully i can get it down real soon. I got pics of the Papaya tonight to but i will be posting them in another grow log http://boards.cannabis.com/grow-log/...ml#post1650548 . She got about a half gallon of bud ferts with molasses last night. Anyways here are the pics of Candice.
-
First Grow from Bagseed w/Pics
April so far is very tall and skinny though her under growth is finally starting to grow in. She is a little behind her sister May in flowering but thats ok. Her leaves are starting to curl a bit like Candice's and I think it either has to do with the humidity or the lights are a bit to close to them. I'm gonna give her a dose of bud ferts and molasseses tonight and see if that perks her up.
-
First Grow from Bagseed w/Pics
May has really turned into a sexy bitch in the last week. Cant believe i thought she was hermie. Anyways, shes getting lots of pistils at all the major internodes and on top. I cant seem to see any problems with her other then where my cat took a chop at her. You guys were right. I left the door propped open and blocked a fan in it to air it out a bit. Left the room for 5 secs and they had the blockade down and snuck a bite of her. Lesson learned.
-
First Grow from Bagseed w/Pics
Shooo last one. June is my little experiment that kinda had to be done. I was running out of space in my bloom room and decided to lay her on her side to take up less vertical space and utilize more of the light that was being wasted. It definately shocked her a bit but shes reaching for the sky again and starting to form more pistils. Its a total son of a bitch watering her though. I'm gonna water her tonight with ferts plus molasses and trim off some of the leaves that died from being under her. This should encourage the side growth to grow better.

First Grow from Bagseed w/Pics
Tonight is midweek 5 of flowering for Candice the other girls are midweek 3. Everything seems to be going good for all of them except for the claw leaves that Candice and April have. My humidity is still crazy ranging from 85% to 94%. My dehumidifier has been running for 48 hours now and hasnt really brought it down at all. It better get its ass working though. My 65 watt cfl finally came in today. When i bought it i figured on using it in the veg room and moving some of the 25 watt cfls to the flower room but due to the size of the light and mounting conditions i have decided to put it in the flower room. That leaves my Papaya plants still with 75 watts of cfls in the veg room but now the flower room has 317 watts which is over the 50 watts a cubic foot rule. More pics in a few days.
Peace

First Grow from Bagseed w/Pics
Well here are this weeks pics of Candice. She is starting to seem a bit sad as her leaves are still curled. I scoured this site for info but there are a bunch of things that can apparently lead to claw leaves. She's almost at the end so i am hoping I can nurse her though another few weeks. I am disappointed at all the faster her top cola is growing because her sister May has already passed her by and is 3 weeks younger. Humidity in my room is finally starting to drop a bit but is still around 85%. Hopefully i can get it around 60% by the end of next week.
-
First Grow from Bagseed w/Pics
April is doing well but still isnt putting the buds on yet. She got really tall in the last few weeks and I am just about out of space in my grow room. Unlike Candice and May, April has yet to form her top cola. Anyone know why she would be behind?
-
First Grow from Bagseed w/Pics
June is looking healthy and still reaching for the sky. Like her sister April she has yet to develop a top cola. I believe this might be from the stress of being laid sideways. Other then that this experiment is working out well for me and she is taking up alot less vertical space. Wish i could have put her in a bigger pot but ran out of time and space.
-
First Grow from Bagseed w/Pics
I saved my sexiest bitch for last. May is continuing to grow pubes and the top 2 sites are forming one large site. I think after harvest I will either try to regen her or will clone her because of her fast growing trait. She also grew straight up which saves a bunch of space in my room. Cant wait till shes done!
