I'm gonna assume yer referring to phytoestrogens, which are substances that have estrogenic effects in mammals- not in plants. The meaning of estrogenic, in this context, is that these substances have effects similar to that of the estrogens in the regulation of cholesteral level and post-menopausal bone density. There is no phytoestrogenic effect upon mammal reproduction.
These are almost universally flavinoids, not steroid hormones like, say, any of the estrogens. They are not interchangeable. What you are saying is that because a steak knife can be used as a phillips screwdriver, a phillips screwdriver can be used as a steak knife.

No, flavinoids are primarily found as pigments and as components of a plant's immune system. They are not hormones. They have no signifigant effect on growth rate or pheno. Flavinoid levels are regulated by plant metabolism, not vice versa.

Once again, not hormones. No increase in growth rate. See above.

Not if they know what they're doing. I thought that this myth dissappeared back around 1974

There's none. Lots of scientific evidence to the contrary, though.
Plenty of people voted for W. Did'nt make it a good idea. They did it for the same reason,too...

Well if i made anything sound like a fact, sorry to mislead anyone. However, i have read tons of sites and forums post (including ones on this forum) about how birth control pills increase growth and no one has said that it doesnt work (well, very few in number). Since both birth control pills and menstrual blood contain the same two hormones, i made the assumption that they are interchangeable. I also found several references supporting that they are... (the most notable being a test using a tomato plant and birth control pills, the results were more growth)
You appear to be well informed on this topic, but i can honestly say majority of the post, sites, and articles i have read support that this does in fact work.
and since i havent tried it myself, I was just posting the general consensus.
maybe there is alot of mis-information out there, and out of my own ignorance i am now spreading it further :( but until i can test it myself i cant be sure...

guess it would make sense that this is just a myth, and people choose to believe it without evidence to support it... wouldnt be the first time. thanks for bringing this to my attention... i have been enlightened :) perhaps this should be added to a sticky to prevent new growers from falling into the same mythological hole.

Trust me, folks- if estrogens increased growth rate, every corn, potato, soy, etc. field in the world would be treated. You'd see big ol' tankers of estrogens cruising through Kansas. Agway would carry it. Farm workers would not have facial hair.
Cannabis is just a plant in every aspect but the legal. There's no black magic involved.

You wouldn't get me to doing it for all the tea in China. Whatever happened to civilization?
The only thing I've EVER heard about birth control pills is the myth that soaking seeds in them will make them female. I've never heard, read OR seen anyone use it, mention it, or even think about using menstral blood (or estrogen itself) to grow pot. And I think I can safely say I've done my share of study. ;)
PS....which doesn't mean it isn't done......just that I've never heard of it. :D

well basically im surprised you havent heard of it, i came across it on my first day researching hydroponics... still just a myth tho (until proven otherwise)
i dont think there is anything left to contribute to this topic unless someone can find a scientific article explaining why this cant possibly work, or vice versa. rhizome, could probably find one.

WEll I HAVE NOW!! Thanks for the articles....I will indeed read up! :)

Menstrual Blood as fertilizer?
Well I just read them all.....peoples' opinions only as you said. Even the reference in the cultivation link was vague and "maybe" You are right.....I see no definitive testing or complete record keeping etc. I don't tend to follow stuff like that so it must have gone right by me and I didn't notice. :D

Just because something is posted on this forum does not make it true and worthy of being echoed, even if it DOES appear to be a consensus for a little while.
Read through the 'misinformation' and 'blind leading the blind' threads in the lounge if you have a minute.
Especially in summertime...
Anyway to add something to this... assuming that the plants CAN in fact even uptake estrogen, I'm not going anywhere NEAR a bud that could potentially contain human hormones. No f-in way. And they think RBGH is scary...

Menstrual Blood as fertilizer?
I've been coming to this website for a few months and never went to check the growing forums because I do not intend to grow any weed. But I am into other kinds of organic gardening. So one day I click on the Organic Growing forum, and the very first thread I see is "Menstrual Blood as fertilizer?"
Wow! I've been missing out! This forum is a goldmine!

Dude, check out these buds I scored off this hippie organic grower up in the hills --- they're totally sticky and stinky and covered in little red hairs --- awesome!

There's a crazy old man who lives up the street who has saved jars of his own toenails, boogers and scabs for the past 25 years. Would any of that make good fertilizer?

Menstrual Blood as fertilizer?
If you had an outdoor growing setup, it would certainly help provide the plants with needed nutrients and would also help to prevent unwanted visitors if you mulched the area with 3 - 4 inches of used tampons and maxi pads.
Helps to keep pot thieves away, but might bring bears.
-
Menstrual Blood as fertilizer?
I can't see any reason, apart from the 'eewww gross' factor, not to use menstrual blood. I'd be more inclined to look at adding it to the compost rather than using it directly.
-
Menstrual Blood as fertilizer?
I think that using it for fertilizer in your pot would bring new meaning to the word "Bloody Mary"....It's one of those things that it just sounds gross to think about. Let us know how it goes though Bro.

I laughed so hard just reading this thread. that said i guess it is the same as dried cow's blood. the one about putting them in the bathroom had me rolling on the floor. I love y'all.
