yea,and im the moron.
Amster the Hamster. HA!
No Hamster I am not a teacher....I am an Artist. I got a teaching degree but as I stated before I did not agree with present day teaching methods...We were taught to use constructivist theory but not allowed to apply it when actually teaching....
and I stood in front of a starbucks during a protest, ...you are adding the rest....no wonder you like Bush you both seem to have a talent embellishing and lying....
Why is it you always get up in arms when college is mentioned...are you having grade problems? It is always such a touchy subject for you....your insecurity is showing....
i finished school and work in advertising for a hardware company in downtown Chicago.
no,your the typical unorganized protester.i just got done watching a bunch of children banging sticks on armored vehicles outside the G8.like i always say, great way to get people to listen or care.keep up the good work.the 1960 way of thinking is a dying breed.perhaps you should take a marketing class at northwestern since you know some faculty.because you and your protest kids suck at it.

owned.
by the time the babyboomers start taking over our public offices the war-on-drugs will start to take more of a realistic turn, meaning alot of these ol' folks mentality about weed will be gone from our goverment & they will start relaxing most of the laws regarding smoke. democrats right now(kennedys') still get to this day a cut on all scotch sold in this country. this was given to them by the u.s. goverment in an effort to curtail bootlegging during prohibition. why would they step on their own toes? most of the people i know would much rather go to the liquor store to pick up a 10pk of NL#5, than a 6pk of budwieser. budwieser pumps millions into keeping weed illegal, it would kill their sales if legalized, & they get to write it off on their taxes! by the time my children are old enough to become legislators things will be much different. anything worthwhile in life is niether free or fast! r
p.s torog was raised in the bible-belt, it's what he knows/believes, cant change people, places, or things. same with alot of these muslims from poor, dusty, miserable-ass desert towns/villages. they are angry w/good reasons but they have been taught that God is a vengeful, hating entity & when you are left ignorant & cant read you only know what your taught. children are taught hate, it is not something they are born with. unfortunately alot of organized religion bashes other beliefs & teaches their young that any other veiw of the world other than theirs is grounds for death. WTF? i personally believe that God is in each & every one of us & that we dont need to go to a place of worship to find him or give 10% of of our income to be saved. we are Gods' children & if you are a believer be good to yourself & those around you & you will be admitted to his kingdom. if you prey on the old & weak & take their money for a false blessing or repentance then you should be executed. My father was the same way Torog...but I have raised my kids not to be intimidated. They know right and wrong but they are not afriad to talk to me or to their dad. They call me almost everyday...we are very close...I never had that with my dad...I value everyday with my kids...we have such fun together because there is no tension. I think a lot of people miss out on a really enjoyable friendship because they are so busy being the boss. They never get to know their child as a person.
Do you think by being really stern you close down communication lines? Is it really good to be terrified of your parent?
Awaiting your opinion....

There has been studies done showing that some people are attracted to pheremones of the same sex, making them gay. So this is proof being gay is not a choice, and you are born like that and you cannot change that. Some people are CREATED gay, this is a fact. If this is a sin than why would "god" create something that he is against? And also, if you are so sure god exists, what created it in the first place?
America is a free country. Why was a president elected that got less votes than the other candidate? Why does the government have the right to read any emails you have sent or received, listen in on your phone calls, and have you under surveillance without you ever knowing?
The president started a war on a country looking for terrorists that had caused 911. Even though there were NO iraqi terrorists proved to be on the plane. There were 18 Saudi Arabian terrorists on the plane, and the organization was believed to be in Saudi Arabia. George Bush also happens to have a very good relationship with the saudi leaders that get him most of his oil.
America is not free, and the situation isn't getting better either. Some people really just can't see big brother.
Hi Sentinel...
Ever notice how the one thing that is never brought up about gay marriage is children.....Some gay people are parents like it or not....and by recognizing their union they can get the same tax breaks as conventional parents...they would also be able to get health insurance and other benefits...why should the children suffer because the right wingers don't want civil unions in the main stream? Right wingers have a way of putting their heads in the sand and wishing everything away....
Damn if only that would work....I know what I would wish for.....lol
I have posted this before but it just fits good here too.... :D
Dear President Bush,
Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's law. I have learned a great deal from you and try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind them that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate. I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some other elements of God's Laws and how to follow them:
1. Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not to Canadians. Can you clarify? I really want a Canadian slave!
2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?
3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness (Lev. 15:19-24). The problem is, how do I tell? Do I stake out the feminine hygeine departmant at walmart? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.
4. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord (Lev. 1:9). The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?
5. I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states that he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or can we have a stoning party?
6. A friend of mine feels that, even though eating shellfish is an abomination (Lev. 11:10), it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this? Are there "degrees" of abomination?
7. Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle-room here?
8. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?
9. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?
10. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them (Lev. 24:10-16)? Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair, like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws (Lev. 20:14)?
I know you have studied these things extensively and thus enjoy considerable expertise in such matters, so I am confident you can help.
lol I'm prolly one of the rare concervative mormon marijuana users.
I think the reason why a lot of religions ban certain things, is because in certain incidents they were bad, or led too other bad things, so people speak out them agaisnt them completely.
For example, I find marijuana use fine, but I can see if someone is under the influence of it and goes driving and hits someone that it could be a problem. Thats how I make sense of the fact that my church looks down upon it, even though thats probably not the case.
Just because I personally smoke marijuana doesn't make me a liberal either. Their are many other subjects that would prevent me from this, such as gay marriage, abortion, etc.
In every group of people, they are some differences.

Just as we should be fearful of the Wrath of God,we should also be fearful of the wrath of our parents..but if that wrath is just and the child knows it,then it is not terror..but rather , tough love. Those children, who do not fear the wrath of their parents, are usually trouble-makers and git into more trouble. Children should have an absolute, guiding moral authority,in the form of their parents, those children whose parents don't set rules and don't care where their child is..are often un-happy and have life-long problems with authority figures. They also tend to be self-abusive and depressed, and put themselve's into bad situations with bad people who will take advantage of their rebellion against authority.
It feels more right,to a child,to have boundaries and for their parents to not be such a friend,as to loosen up those boundaries of moral conduct and behaviour..they are most secure, when their roles are clearly defined. Until children reach the age of majority and legal status as adults, they should be treated like children..not as little adults, with adult decisions, being forced upon them.
As soon as my daughter turned 18,I began to treat her like an adult..with not only adult freedoms, but adult responsibilty..I told her that she would be responsible for her actions as an adult,in an adult way..and that the law, would expect the same. Before she turned 18,I told her that this was no democracy-that I was the absolute ruler..granted-I was a just and merciful ruler..but at least she knew where she stood in the world..and there was no confusion about that, like there would be,in a household where the children are treated as little adults and not as the children that they are.
Have a good one !

When I watched the episode of Trading Spouses, with the lesbian parents,it was obvious, that they loved their children and the children were happy..however,both I and the Christian mom, were concerned that one of the lesbians, was exposing the children to adult situations, that they should not have exposed them to,without rigid guidelines and strict monitoring.
I'm willing to concede to civil unions, but not marriage..even though,I know that by doing so,we've stepped onto a slippery slope of allowing civil unions for all sorts of blasphemous unions..like bestial, pedophilic or incestous unions.

I couldn't have said it better myself. Children indeed need discipline and boundaries. Parents shouldn't be their friends, at least until the children are adults themselves. Couldn't have said it better myself, Torog.Quote:

kids cant be your "friends". but you can treat them in a manner so youll most likely be "friendly" if anything.
we're raising nations of pussies here in north america. you spank your kid youre a bad parent. dodgeball is bad...bullies are bad.
bullies arent bad at all. in fact id think the school would be doing something wrong if there were no bullies. its a crucial lesson in life when faced with a bully you either shy away from or stand up to. if bush had more people kicking his ass than pampering it in his youth he might not be so detached from reality now.
Not being their friends doesn't mean I wouldn't love and respect them. By definition, friendship implies a relationship between equals, and that's where the parent-child relationship is different. I think it is absolutely not a good idea to treat your children, at least until they're 18 or otherwise mature enough, as the parents' equals.Quote:

This isn't the case all the time, but I still strongly believe that physical discipline or intimidation are not the right ways to help your children grow up and develop.

Personally, if I had to meet a right wing Christian from the south, I'd much rather it be a right wing Christian from the south who tokes. I'm a liberal, but, there are guns in my house (safely locked away, not loaded). Is there some sort of rule book that says the way we vote has to rule every aspect of how we live?
The parenting issue is a tough one. I believe most kids need a spanking at some point. I have even washed my son's smart mouth out with soap....twice. There is a difference between how you raise your kids when they are too young to make their own decisions, and how you parent them when they are teens. When they are teens, if you have raised them properly, they will have the ability to make some decisions on their own using their common sense. Yes, they will make mistakes. But I would rather my kids feel safe enough to talk to me and tell me the truth than be afraid of me and lie.
I don't care what anyone says, if you harm your kids physically to the point where they are afraid of you, then they will start to stop trusting you. Then, you've lost them forever. They should respect your authority, not be afraid you'll beat the hell out of them.
I agree that children need to learn who is boss. Parents' word should always be LAW, whether it is right or wrong. I don't think I'll ever spank my daughter though. I will, however, make sure that she gets real punishments when needed.
When I was a child I was never spanked. If I was really bad I would get grounded. In our house a grounding meant no going out to play, no friends coming over to play, no tv, no video games, no phone, etc. I was an only child and didn't have any siblings to play with either. Looking back I think I would have preferred the spanking that a weeks worth of grounding. It would have been over a lot sooner.
What gets me these days is not the methods that people use to discipline their kids but the fact that so many seem not to discipline them at all. I don't know how many times I've seen kids wreaking havoc in the grocery store while the parents completely ignore their actions. Just recently I came out of a restuarant to find a kid jumping up and down on the back bumper of my car while the parents stood by talking with some friends totally oblivious. When I said something to the kid the father had the nerve to get on my case about yelling at his kid. I wanted to pop the guy in the jaw but seeing as children were near I didn't want to make a scene. So, exercising great restraint, I politely explained just that to the guy and told him if he still had a problem we should discuss it around the corner in private. He didn't, and mumbled something about not noticing what his kid was doing. That in itself says a lot about his parenting.
This thread was posted seven months ago...DIE.

Sure, some parents do let their kids do whatever the fuck they want, and I imagine that in most of these cases the children grow up to be spoiled brats as adults.
What I believe is that, from the moment they are old enough to understand, you should just be honest with your children. Don't lie to them (about things like drugs, sex, etc...) and they will learn to trust you; don't let them have everything they want, and they will learn that nobody can always have everything you want; don't hit them and they won't grow to fear you; don't talk down to them and try and control them unecessarily and they won't try and rebel against you. Assert authority not by physical abuse or force, but by always having an open and honest relationship... explain that the reason you have authority over them is because you have their best interests at heart and because you are only looking after them... don't treat them with the "do what I say because I say so" attitude.
I dunno...this is just what I think, but i've never had kids...
Put it this way - my parents didn't raise me or my brother and sisters like this, and we all believe that we should raise our children differently to how we were raised ourselves.. we've all 'broken the mould', so to speak.
Peace and Pistachios.
