By the definition, sure:

If you had asked me before I started raising my own, I could not have honestly called it a hobby; more of a vice, really. You can pretty much call anything a hobby under the strict definition, but in terms of what constitutes a hobby to most people's minds, I'd saying growing is a profoundly rich hobby. I would make this comparison: Going to a bar and imbibing alcohol is hard to call a hobby, but brewing your own in your basement could easily be called a hobby. Just like buying pot and smoking it wouldn't be hobby compared to growing one's own.
