I think the movie you mean is Little Shop of Horrors (Rick Moranis , Steve Martin not the original which had an early Jack Nicholson role) it features a flesh eating plant called Audrey.

Ground breaking movies for their time were the likes of the Burning , I spit on Your Grave (disturbing rape scenes) Evil Dead , Cannibal Holocaust and Cannible Ferrox , Happy Birthday to Me , Driller Killer , Eraserhead and of course Scanners.
Others to watch are :
Tetsuo, part one and two.
Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend
Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers is always good for a laugh along with:

Bad Taste
Braindead
Evil Dead II + III (the first Evil Dead was pure horror but these were very funny).
Any Troma movie.
