you probably should have just waited til they preflowered in veg stage before moving them into flower. putting them into flower doesn't actually make them flower anytime sooner i have heard (jorge cervantes), because the plants need to mature first. preflowering in veg stage is the sign your plants are mature.
I am facing the same question....when to start 12/12?
My personal grow is just about at week 7, from seed, and the plants are around 18"-24". I can't see any pre-flowers, although I'm not 100% sure what I'm looking for, and did wonder if I should switch to 12/12 prior to determining sex, or after determining sex?
Reading some other posts, it seems people are switching to 12/12 at around week 7 but, albeit with my limited knowledge and experience, this seems too early to me. Is it?
I was thinking I would need to wait until 9-10 weeks had passed, from seed, to determine sex and, if required, remove the males and THEN switch to 12/12.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm growing NL, if that helps!
Thanks again

wait until your plants preflower (info on preflowers is not hard to fine) before putting them under 12/12 lighting. If you want them to preflower earlier, you can try switching to 18/6 if you are currently using 24.
Hi dutch.lover.
Couple of different responses I'm getting really...some saying wait until pre-flowering before moving to 12/12, some saying move to 12/12 and then determine sex.
Hard to find a definitive answer really, so I guess I'll try waiting until I can take some pictures of the pre-flowers, if I need to, to get some help identifying them. Sure, I've looked at books and on the web, but being my first grow I don't want to make a mistake if I can help it.
At the moment, I'm doing 20/4 for lighting. If I moved this to 18/6 now, you think it would speed up the pre-flowering in the veg stage? Would this in any way trigger flowering considering I've been on 20/4 for 7 weeks?
Thanks again for the advice and help. Really appreciate that.

A cannabis wont flower untill it is mature enough, eg, time from sprouting.
Alternating internodes are a sign of maturity.
And vegging a plant untill preflowering is all well and good, but it's not needed.
The plant measures the uninteruppted darkness cycle, which then reasleses a flowerinh hormone.
Just be patient and the plant will flower.
I agree with Lip..I don't wait for pre-flowers...time wasted in my book....my plants have always shown sex between the 10-14th day of switching to 12/12 regardless of when I turn them.
