It's cool the way they ship it to you. It's nicely hidden in a free gift they send you
They sent them to me last year, and I didn't take care of them at all. I'm surprised that they germinated. I fried one seed cause I planted outside and then we had 3 straight days over 100 degrees. Another one I physically damaged after germination, so I have 8 out of the 10 plants growing now :D

PostManDave, Thanks
The lower growth is looking pretty good. I would already be able to remove the first set of lower leaves from this cutting. I'm getting inpatient to find out sex. It appears that it's ready to be cut. I'll give it another week and post anothe pic. What do you think?

Give it some more time on those side shoots so you have a bigger chunk of plant matter to work with.
It's easy to break small weak young branches like those.
And the more nodes you have under the rooting medium the more potential root development sites there are.
I wait until the shoot I'm interested in cutting has at least 4 sets of leaves plus the growing tip:
Leave the growing tip
Leave 2 more sets of leaves
Slice off the rest cleanly with a razor blade

Thanks for the tips
Also, I got some root stimulator but I don't quite understand the label. It says to apply to the soil before transplanting? But I will be taking cuttings so I was just gonna fill a cup with it, and then dip the cutting in the cup and then plant it. Is this ok?

Root stimulator and rooting hormone are different:
Stimulator has vitamin B12 in it.
Hormone has indole acetic acid (IAA) in it, or another similar-acting hormone.
Stimulator is great for watering after you transplant your plants.
Hormone is just for the rooting process.
What you need to dip the cuttings in is a true rooting hormone.
I've tried Rootone, Schultz TakeRoot, Olivia's, and Clonex and holy crapola the clonex works FAST.
Let the cutting sit in it for a minute or so before planting.
Make sure you pour out just a little into a vial and don't contaminate the original bottle it came in, or you could get rot.

My gutt feeling was that I bought the wrong product but that's all they had @ home depot. Since it says that it promotes new roots and stimulates root growth I figured it would help. I will look around for Clonex.
Vigoro....Root Stimulator and transplanting solution 2-5-2...Contains Vitamin B1....
Should I return it? Or will I need this for after transplanting? Thanks for the feedback stinkyattic

Here's an update of my plant. Still waiting for some more growth to start cutting. I took them outside today even though it's a bit cloudy. Check out the visitor on the left branch

PostmanDave, can you explain the difference between taking one or multiple cuttings?
