5 seconds is kinda long for me. I don't like to hold my hits at all, just feels unnatural, I just like to smoke, rather than taking a hit, and holding it, I'd rather take a hit, blow out, wait a sec, hit it again.
Maybe I should hold it a little longer, I barely hold it 2seconds.
i still hold my hits in for at least 7 seconds

i hold mine in for 3 seconds, about the length of a normal breath
you avoid a lot of the carcinogens this way, because as many have said the THC is absorbed instantly and the tar and other nasty shit gets exhaled before it can settle
Ive also heard of people taking a hell of a hit and blowing a lung.
Yeah I read somewhere maybe here a while back not to hold in for more than like 5-7 seconds, and I never do...If you need to try and get the little tiny bit more thc, your too desperate to get fucked. Even if it was true, the extra 20 seconds wouldnt be worth the damage and the tiny little extra bit of high.
Depends on how much you smoke at one time.
Bottom line, holding it in for more than several seconds is going to irritate your lungs more, and probably won't even make much of a difference in how you feel if you are smoking at least a bowl or two.
But try this some day (if you can lol)- take ONE hit and stop there. Literally one hit and hold it as long as you can. See how high you get. The next time you smoke (on a different day, make sure each time that it's the first smoke of your day), take ONE hit again, same size hit, same weed, same smoking method; only this time, hold it for just a few seconds. Tell me if there is not a significant difference in how you feel
It's all relative to the total amount consumed. The more you hit in one session, the less significant the gain from holding each one longer becomes.
Also, holding the hit may make some feel higher, but its infact oxygen deprevation. Once your done smoking whatever, just hold your breath...[With no smoke] and you'll see.
A natural breath is about 3 seconds, and thats all it takes. THC and lungs go hand in hand, made for each other.

I don't really care how many studies say what. All I know is if I hold in my hits for a good 10-15seconds, I get much more stoned if I hold it in for only 3 seconds. That's me, not their studies. :)
