Guide to these forums and dealing with Moderators
As a moderator elsewhere and having been moderated at various points in my life, let's try it this way:
The correct way to deal with a moderator is to respectfully voice your concerns and make your points without:
1. Cursing
2. Insulting
3. YELLING
4. Accusing
5. General foolishness
A moderator sprimary function is to moderate, as in control the flow. In general (b/c every forum is different), they are not babysitters, psychologists, referees, or punching bags.
Forums in general are PRIVATE. You may have public access, but the rules governing them are subject to what the administration feels is right. You may agree, you may disagree. HOWEVER, once you agree to join and click on the TOS, you have agreed to ABIDE by the rules set forth.
Over the last few weeks, the juvenile foolishness has pissed me off to no end! People express their views disrespectfully, get banned, and then want to complain about the moderator that banned them. Maybe if you showed some damn respect and courtesy to begin with, you'd fuckin get some in return.
I had my own recent issue with a moderated action. I respectfully asked my question and got a respectful answer back. I respectfully posted my opinion on the general situation, and I got respectful replies back. It's not that fuckin hard people!

Cheers,
Bob.

Well, I have had my own differences with moderators as well. Altho the end result was one of respect on both sides, over the course of the discussion that wasnt always the case.
I also think its more difficult than one might realize to uphold 1-5 when number 5 covers so much ground. It reminds of the catch 22 charge from the UCMJ, disorderly conduct.
Just my 2 cents Cal, other than number 5 being so general, I think you right on man.
I hope Platy didnt get banned for this thread tho, if he did, I think it would be proveing his point.
Peace.

Yeah, #5 is general but I think Plats posts also speaks to number 5. He, admittedly, was being a smartass. I know when I have my users send me smart ass remarks like that, I don't even bother to read the message. If anything, I ban them longer or permanently. It's not so much what you say, strictly my opinion, but how you say it.
Unless something is so blatantly wrong, I've always tried to avoid 'confrontational' messages and instead, try to leave it open for conversation. I've even been moderated by prepubuscent (sp) 13 yr olds on a video game forum who had no clue what they were doing...and I was PISSED. But, understanding the other side, I iniated a conversation and a mutual understanding was met.
Believe me, I feel the pain from both sides. I know what it's like to enforce rules or policies that you may not agree with, and I know what's its like to be a victim as a end user. In the end, I've found the most success with the old adage that you catch more bees with honey.
It's also very similar to my work motto: You may live in a democracy, you don't work in one. Yeah...my subbordinates used to love when I pulled that one on them! LOL!!!

He was banned for posting this thread.. and then turning around and making an "immature assholes" comment on a thread that hasn't been commented on for 12 days.
Completely uncalled for. And just plain rude...
what was the point?
Platypus obviously had a chip on his shoulder when he logged in this morning and probably should not have been posting here. This isn't a place to take your anger out on random people or authority.
I guess you could say it falls under Cal's #5. of general foolishness.
I hope Platypus can rationalize this and leave it be when he returns.
We don't look for reasons to ban you and we promote freedom of speech. You have to use a level tactfullness and even though that level is not very high at all, some people (kids generally) have a serious problem with being considerate of other people. Simply don't make it a point to call people Assholes, faggots, white trash or degrade the opposite sex you'll get along with just about everyone.
Now if you choose to not get along with someone, and feel strongly opinionated about their personality..bringing it up on the boards is not the thing to do. Contact a mod privately and put that member on ignore if you have a a hard time talking with them. Thankfully people are something in life that if you ignore, will more than likely go away.

You can't just say well if you don't like it you can fuck off because people who post on this site rely on this site as a place to learn how to grow and to talk and share opinions with other like minded people. before the new ownership this was the best place to go for all that and its hard for people to let go of that fact and just standbye and watch the site they once knew go to shit. But whatever who cares i know this site will never be the same again so this is the last time i'm going to complain.
Well all I can say to that is that you don't know the whole story. Nor will you ever. There is much that goes on behind closed doors that is by no means any business of the general public..and hardly even the mods business.
We say that if you don't like it here you can leave.. we say that as an option made BY YOU. If you do not like this place so much I really don't see why you would come here..
I don't like to see gore and death images so i stay away from those sites. The statement by no means is a threat and nobody should be "in fear" of the moderators. This isn't rocket science.. it's called being able to be apart of a community without being a troll.

I used to enjoy the flame sessions in every other thread also.....VERY relaxing!

Due to a change in the rules there have been more bans. After all, just because Sundance is the new owner heaven forbid that he has the right to run it in his own manner...right?
But as far as the "challenge" issue. Why do you feel the need? In the past, you know, the good ol' Ron days....when del told me to back off or else I was smart enough to back off....so what has changed? Del would bounce your tail out the door just as quick as some of the "new" mods.

This REALLY gets me! "rely on this site as a place to learn how to grow and to talk and share opinions with other like minded people"....if that were the case there would be NO hassle from a MOD and definately no reason for a ban.
Have a good one!
