i think original music is dying or ill
There's a lot of good bands today.
Most people aren't willing to search or take the patience to like them. They wait for the "next big thing." Seem like some wait for the record companies to come up with something, except record companies don't make music, musicians do :P
I could list 5 albums off my head that were released in the past year that are pretty damn good (or in the case of Grandaddy, a masterpiece)
Grandaddy - Just Like The Fambly Cat
Built to Spill - You In Reverse
Arab Strap - The Last Romance
Sunset Rubdown - Shut Up I Am Dreaming
Zox - The Wait

What song is that? I'm too lazy to do a search. I've heard it I just can't remember where.

"Can't You See" - Marshall Tucker Band. Kick ass song and band. Too bad we don't hear any of that stuff today.
Good music still exists, you just have to look for it. Trying to find a lot of good stuff on mainstream radio/CDs won't get you anywhere. Do some searching on the internet for a lot of indie and underground bands that aren't signed to major labels. Granted, a lot of the stuff I've found I don't like at all, sounds too emo/whiny for my tastes aka kinda like Fallout Boy. But yeah.. I still just listen to the old 60's-70's bands.. that's where the real music was. :)

yeah its true... to be a musician nowadays you dont really need talent, you need money and to look good, the rest is up to the record company to make the music sound "good". people these days would rather hear shit music by a really hot babe then see some boring old band playing exceptionally beautiful music. its just sad...

If emo doesn't go away soon, i'm moving to brazil were i hope it won't follow. and if i see some fucker in tight pants and eyeliner... i'm turning 28 days later on them... after 28 days of course
I've worked for them all; SFX, CapStar, ClearChannel, etc. and where I would agree with you that commercially, we just seem to be puking up the same stuff, I would disagree about the lack of a revolution. Thanks to colleges, art/indie pushes and many other off-beat venues, I think you will always find the constant creativity. It may not be mainstream and the artists may never get rich from it, but that's what makes it so appealing for so many in the first place.
The funny thing about producing and sending folks to different labels is that I hear the same thing over and over again from artists who hate commercial artists. They bitch because they can't make a living playing a local coffee house, but the idea of getting big money from getting airplay and huge venues suddenly changes all that.
Fact is, even the most "pop" of most of today's artists are extraordinarily talented and worked their ass off to get there. Keep playing the Virginia venue man, you've got a neat sound. And who knows, maybe someday soon, you'll get a call from someone who you least expect offering to help you start your own musicial revolution.
Cheers,
Chaotic

yea you're right about having to pay dues and that there are a lot of talented artist out there ranging from pop to hip hop to even "pop punk" but at the same time, its just a little discouraging for me sometimes how there are bands that blow up because they're singing about their girl dumping them in highschool. Thanks for the kind words though... got any connects to help us out?? haha:pimp:

Could you inmagine what Jimi Hendricks,Janis Joplin,Brian Jones,Jim Morrison or any one of a dozen folk could do with todays technology, mixing boards, computers ect?? The thought crosses my mind what Hendricks would doing now.
We also have ClearChannel,Westwood One and other Radio megacorps to thank for things like "Lady Lumps and Junk in my Trunk"
Yeah, Janis, Jimi, Brian and Jim didn't NEED fancy mixing machines and other music devices to sound good. That's what made them legends. And overdosing.

Record companies have been doing the formula formula ever since vinyl met money.
No seriously...right from the start I tell ya.
