Unlike the for mentioned Savage thread, this Bayer thing seems very interesting to me, and it is what the thread was created for. Not for someone to change the subject because they felt they were being attacked. (Bong30) And consequently attacked another. (GS)
You and I Bird are not in disagreement, and my post was not directed at you, altho you seem to find my suggestion to take a deep breath rather insulting.

So a dude that straps himself with explosives, gets on a bus full of innocent people and blows himself and the bus up, killing everyone on the bus, for political and religious reasons...that's NOT a terrorist? So what definition of terrorist are we working with here?

Marlboro, I didn't take your direction as an insult. Condescending, perhaps, since you compared the divergence of the thread to your kids. But not insulting. I just felt like giving it back to you. And if you'll read back, you'll see I wasn't reacting emotionally to the topic of poor Mr. Savage. I rarely do respond that way. My intellect is far too superior for me not to keep my emotional responses in check. Logical is the way we lawyer-reporter types are trained to think and respond. Illogical is generally the way Mr. Savage does business.
I just thought it was strange that you'd try to direct a topic to stay on track in that way, especially on boards created by and for cannabis believers. If any group of people was ever free-wheeling and spontaneous, it's this bunch. Thank goodness for divergent tracks, especially when people begin hurling the F word at one another. Now THAT's an example of a childish, emotional reaction.
P.S. To get us off on another tangent for good measure, I well remember that change-the-topic tactic my son used when he was a little guy. The funny thing is, I asked him about something he'd promised his father he would do yesterday and didn't do, and he changed the topic so fast it was incredible. He's not any more subtle as a 20-year-old than he was when he was 6!

Back on thread for a second. I guess this video from the Scarborough show was just on recently and that the NYTimes must be working on this story again or something.
What's not being played very highly in the video clip above is that this is a 20-year-old story. Factor 8 and the other two widely used clotting factors for hemophilia have been well tested and safe now from AIDS contamination for more than 15 years. This tainted Factor 8 "dumping" happened back before that was the case. The age of this story doesn't make Bayer's actions any better, of course. If, as frequently happens, a big pharm company worked around the FDA in a way so as to harm innocent people in markets other than America, that's still deplorable.
But everyone reading this now ought to know this regards something that happened during the 80s and received a good bit of attention then. I'm just curious why it's a hot topic again now. Please don't make the mistake of assuming that our current blood supply and clotting factors are still tainted or unsafe, here or in other developed countries. They're safe now. (But we're all still the victims of Big Pharma, as anyone who pays for medicines knows.)

I think he's appalling. I can easily tolerate and respect people with differing opinions if they are able to communicate them in sane, reasonable ways. He cannot. He's one of the so-called "Shout TV/radio" celebrities who's helping further polarize this country by selling his extreme notions to people who don't know or read enough legitimate information to be able to discriminate. That's what so hard to forgive him for.
They took him off the radio market here, which is strange considering that the Dallas area is one of the most conservative parts of the country there is. But I know he still has fans, and it doesn't surprise me that you're one of them. I'm going to do some research into his so-called credentials. I will never change my mind about his having a screw loose and being a dangerous person.
