In the last couple of years numerous books on bdsm have appeared on the market. This book is among the very best of those! It is an unusual complete work on the world of bdsm. Although it is written from a heterosexual, dominant male and submissive female point of view, the concepts presented and the advice given in this book apply to any other type of relationship or sexual preference. All in all, the book contains thirteen chapters.
The first two give an excellent introduction and present a whole variety of different flavors of bdsm practices. Bdsm is not about violence, abuse or misusage of power. Based upon communication and trust, it is a very strong and wonderful experience full of love and affection.
The following three chapters focus upon finding partners, developing relationships, and provide the basic bdsm etiquette. New relationships always start out by negotiating, setting limits, and defining unbreakable boundaries. Even the experienced player will find the tips and advice given here very useful and practical. For example, Philip and Molly present a simple categorization of different levels of dominant and submissive power exchange that already seems to have become "standard'' among some practitioners.
Almost half of the book is devoted to teach concrete, safe bdsm techniques. And to say the least, this part is very well-written and contains an amazing amount of detail. It is almost like having a real mentor. The section on bondage discusses how to plan and then safely perform a bondage scene. Those who do not know how to tie up his or her lover with a rope, will really appreciate the detailed description of the "rope dress," "wrist bondage," "crossed ankle bondage," and "breast bondage" techniques. Do remember to always keep a pair of scissors handy in case you quickly have to release your victim when a vanilla friend shows up at your door! Also worthwhile mentioning is the "cloth gaggage primer" contributed by Master Ken. Other standard bondage toys and restraints are discussed as well: collars, blindfolds, cuffs, and gags.

As this is a book that could be used as a guide, the reader will really appreciate the extensive work put into a table of contents, an alphabetical index, and a glossary. Also, addresses and contacts to bdsm support groups, organizations, computer BBSs, stores, etc. are provided in the appendices.
Finally, throughout the book there are a lot of concrete examples. Some are Philip and Molly's own, and some are told by their friends. They give the beginner a very good understanding of the various aspects of bdsm discussed, and also provide the more experienced with new ideas and perspectives on otherwise well-known practices. There are also lots of funny bits told in a tongue-in-cheek fashion that make the reading very entertaining.
