listean to the song taurus by spirit
I enjoy Led Zeppelins music but if you knew were much of it comes from you might have a different opinion of them.
As a couple people mentioned Spirit??s ??Taurus? written in 1967 has the same exact guitar line as Stairway to Heaven; which was written years later. Now I mention Jake Holmes because his Zeppelin connection is a pretty fucked up story.
In 1967 Jimmy Page, then with The Yardbirds, heard Jake Holmes play a song live off his new album "The Above Ground Sound Of Jake Holmes". Page liked it so much he began to play it live with The Yardbirds, although they never recorded it in the studio. Finally in 1969 he recorded it with Led Zeppelin, WITH NO CREDIT WHATSOEVER given to Holmes. The name of that song ??Dazed and Confused?.

Back in the late 60's all the big groups shared and recorded each others music...hendrix, grand funk, the stones, van morrison, rare earth amongst many; Commonly recorded their own version's of the song. so, it does not surprise me, that you came across info like this...cool info.
here is a trivia question for 'you' then. In the late 70's Mother's finest released a song called Mickee's Monkey...
What band and song was that an almost exact duplicate of? (music arrangement only; words were different) lw
My problem with Pages theft is that he gave Jake Holmes NO CREDIT for a song that was a hit. Imagine how you would feel if your greatest accomplishment in life was stolen from you and credit for it was given to the thief. :dance:Quote:

nontheless led zeppelin is an incredible band. Each of the members are masters at there instruments. They combine to make an original, bad ass, perfect sound.

Yeah, a lot of Zeppelin's stuff came from classic blues songs. Page and the rest really took it and made it their own though. Still doesn't make it right that they didn't give credit where it's due.Quote:

Do you know were Pleasant Hill/ Walnut Creek is? I have some friends out there and might go out there this summer.
Sure do. Pleasant Hill/Walnut Creek is in the East Bay (San Francisco Bay Area). Nice area but gets really hot in the summer. I'm down in San Jose which is in the South Bay, about an hour from Pleasant Hill. Have you been out here before?Quote:
