my buddy brought a pipe back from cali and did that and had no problems.
if it's with you, you'll have to empty your pockets and shit b/c it will set off the detector.
but if its in my luggage, im thinking that i might have some trouble when i put it through the metal detector conveyer belt thing....because they look at whats inside your luggage with the x ray machine correct? i really need some help on this im rather stumped.

well look at it this way:
either it's in your carry-on and there's a chance they question it and whip it out in front of your family
OR
it's in your bag under the plane, and a SMALL chance that they question it and remove it. still, you won't have to deal with your family knowing.
you want to bring back some treasure, you gotta be down to do whatever it takes so you dont get caught.
Yeah, i was underage on my senior trip to hawaii and i brought a suitcase full of booze and checked it. no problems so put it in your bag that u check. remember, those people who check your carry-ons are people too, they make mistakes, the worst thing you want is a person who is anti pot to whip it out in front of ur mom and dad and make a joke
