Need help, question on watering!!
Thank you Jdog 7000 (and others) for not making me feel like a complete moron. I KNOW to water when they are dry. I needed to know why they aren't getting dry. I mixed about 40% perlite ( I read this somewhere) They are growing pretty quickly, but then again this is my first timeso I have nothing to compare it to. I do have house plants that are thriving, so I do know how to take care of plants. I am just a little hesitant when it comes to these plants. My growroom temp varies between 65-73 degrees, as I am growing in a closet that has one outside wall, and I live in the NE. Do you think this isn't warm enough? I was told this is the perfect temp. The pots have adequate drainage. Thanks

Oh and this question may have been aske a billion times, but how old till plants can be sexed, at what age? I have 9 plants, but only room for 3 and I'm dying to know, thanks.
By the way turtle420, I'm also new to msg boards, so I wouldn't have thought to look up watering, I thought people didn't mind answering questions, You didn't have to answer my question anyways.

Right, for a start do you know how to sex a plant? Like how to tell whats what?
If not go and read up about it, but to sex them all you have to do is put your lights on 12/12 and you'll know.
Then you can keep it in 12/12 to carry on flowering, or you can revert back to vegative, 18/6

I guess I wasn't clear, ( I can be confusing) My plants are only 5 weeks old, I guess from your answer, I need to wait till they flower? When do you think that will be? (so sorry, as I said it's my first time) I do know how to sex them. It's just that I have 9 plants and only room for 3. Any help would be appreciatetd thanks.

for sexing...
I don't think age per say matters after it grows a few sets of leaves, but instead height...like at least 12" to produce any worthwhile amount. Plan ahead for the plants to double in height during flowering to judge when to change your light cycle, while also accounting for the distance you want them from the light. Err on the side of short if it's your first time.
I've read that 18" is a common height to switch, but I started mine flowering when the tallest of 8 plants was 15" because I don't have much height to work with. Within a week, the males budded up. The flowers looked like tiny banana bunches or cauliflower and the females had a few v-shaped hairs. I had to chuck 4 boys.

. . .and then you cloned the girls?
Need help, question on watering!!
for rodekyll, on cloning:
I should have, but no. I thought I'd be biting off more than I could chew by trying to clone my first time around.
I was amazed that I could switch to flowering mode by 5 weeks, so I think I could live with that wait next time, then try cloning with a little more confidence.

Go to the floral shop in your area or walmart and get one of these (moisture meter). Real cheap and effective. Put it deep into the soil and if reads dry you know it's time to water.
Good luck with the grow!
