looks like normal sacrificing of the lower leaves to feed the new growth. Unsightly, but natural. Plants do that when they aren't taking up nutes for any reason -- no roots, plugged roots, stagnant medium, no nutes in the medium, bad ph, etc. The real question is: is the new growth coming in normal? Looks to me like it is. Wait till you have about 3 nodes going above the brown leaves and then trim them out. The uglies will be a memory in a couple days. . .
