You're reading too far into the man. Look at the lyrics, it's an anti-war and anti-hate message. It doesn't say everyone should be the exact same. And the world will live as one? It's about peace, not uniformity.

Umm, where does it say everybody should think the same? Quite the contrary, he imagines a world without religion, materialism and patriotism, all things which try to get large groups to think in the same way.Quote:

And when some musician does try to get a message out there and make a change, they too often couch a poor understanding of the problem in lyrics which make you wonder if the song has any meaning at all. There just seems to be a complete absence of any intelligent thought or social analysis in modern popular music. To illustrate, here are the lyrics of the top 3 songs on the current Billboard charts:Quote:
People like Lennon are hypocrites preaching the humble life whilst residing in luxury.

Mmmm mmm yeah
Do do do do do do do-do
Ohh Yeah
Gotta change my answering machine
Now that I'm alone
Cuz right now it says that we
Can't come to the phone
And I know it makes no sense
Cuz you walked out the door
But it's the only way I hear your voice anymore
(it's ridiculous)
It's been months
And for some reason I just
(can't get over us)
And I'm stronger then this
(enough is enough)
No more walkin round
With my head down
I'm so over being blue
Cryin over you
And I'm so sick of love songs
So tired of tears
So done with wishing you were still here
Said I'm so sick of love songs so sad and slow
So why can't I turn off the radio?
Gotta fix that calender I have
That's marked July 15th
Because since there's no more you
There's no more anniversary
I'm so fed up with my thoughts of you
And your memory
And how every song reminds me
Of what used to be
That's the reason I'm so sick of love songs
So tired of tears
So done with wishing you were still here
Said I'm so sick of love songs so sad and slow
So why can't I turn off the radio?
(Leave me alone)
Leave me alone
(Stupid love songs)
Dont make me think about her smile
Or having my first child
Let it go
Turning off the radio
Cuz I'm so sick of love songs
So tired of tears
So done with wishing she was still here
Said I'm so sick of love songs so sad and slow
So why can't I turn off the radio?
(why can't I turn off the radio?)
Said I'm so sick of love songs
So tired of tears
So done with wishing she was still here
Said I'm so sick of love songs so sad and slow
So why can't I turn off the radio?
(why can't I turn off the radio?)
And I'm so sick of love songs
So tired of tears
So done with wishin you were still here
Said I'm so sick of love songs so sad and slow
Why can't I turn off the radio?
(why can't I turn off the radio?)
Why can't I turn off the radio?

My life is brilliant.
My love is pure.
I saw an angel.
Of that I'm sure.
She smiled at me on the subway.
She was with another man.
But I won't lose no sleep on that,
'Cause I've got a plan.
You're beautiful. You're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.
I saw you face in a crowded place,
And I don't know what to do,
'Cause I'll never be with you.
Yeah, she caught my eye,
As we walked on by.
She could see from my face that I was,
Fucking high,
And I don't think that I'll see her again,
But we shared a moment that will last till the end.
You're beautiful. You're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.
I saw you face in a crowded place,
And I don't know what to do,
'Cause I'll never be with you.
You're beautiful. You're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.
There must be an angel with a smile on her face,
When she thought up that I should be with you.
But it's time to face the truth,
I will never be with you.
again, how did this come from that song?
Sadness is necessary, disease is the earth's natural process of thinning out the numbers, I get you there. You may see it and think of greatness. I see it as a world where everyone can put aside differences and live as one. The three verses are the three biggest reasons people go to war, or have any sort of problems at all. Religion, nations, and posessions. Utopia, my friend, not grey.
Sorry about that oneironaut. After I posted it showed that you had already posted.
I just sorta reinforced you point. Yeah, that's what I'll say...
I don't disagree with your thoughts on the majority of pop songs (they are mindless (but for some mildly entertaining) drivel).
I prefer music with a message wether that be global as in Billy Joels "We Didn't Start the Fire

Or more on a personal level such as Alice Coopers "Teenage Frankenstein".
I'm the kid on the block
With my head made of rock
And I ain't got nobody
I'm the state of the art
Got a brain a la carte
I make the babies cry
I ain't one of the crowd
I ain't one of the guys
They just avoid me
They run and they hide
Are my colors too bright
Are my eyes set too wide
I spend my whole life
Burning, turning
I'm a teenage Frankenstein
The local freak with the twisted mind
I'm a teenage Frankenstein
These ain't my hands
And these legs ain't mine
Oh no!
Got a synthetic face
Got some scars and a brace
My hands are rough and bloody
I walk into the night
Women faint at the sight
I ain't no cutie-pie
I can't walk in the day
I must walk in the night
Stay in the shadows
Stay out of the light
Are my shoulders too wide
Is my head screwed on tight
I spend my whole life
Burning, turning
I'm a teenage Frankenstein
The local freak with the twisted mind
I'm a teenage Frankenstein
These ain't my hands
And these legs ain't mine
It grew strong
And enegy has its own will
And people think they make music still
But music is there with out you or me we just manipulate
For better or worse so let it situate
I get to make records and dough
Paid out the ass hole
And still seen as another face on the totem pole
Conquer, my sponsors are monsters
And everybody thinks that I owe them one
I'm glad I love music and life
cuz it's easy to see the pain and strife and end it all tonight

All of us get lost in the darkness, dreamers learn to steer by the stars.
All of us do time in the gutter, dreamers turn to look at the cars.
Turn around, turn around, turn around. -Rush
Iā??ve seen a rich man beg
Iā??ve seen a good man sin
Iā??ve seen a tough man cry
Iā??ve seen a loser win
And a sad man grin
I heard an honest man lie
Iā??ve seen the good side of bad
And the downside of up
And everything between
I licked the silver spoon
Drank from the golden cup
And smoked the finest green
I stroked the fattest dimes at least a couple of times
Before I broke their heart
You know where it ends, yo, it usually depends on where you start
