The leaves need light to break down the cloroplasts, turn it into sugar, then turn that into starch and munch down.

FYI, leaves don't break down chloroplasts... the chlorophyll present in the chloroplasts is excited and the enegy used to drive ATP (energy) and NADPH synthesis.. If you put a plant in the dark for weeks it'll start breaking down the chlorophyll as it tries to get every bit of reserved energy.Quote:
