I'm not sure about the chemistry involved, but I've tried it twice. Once in a bowl with no effect, and once in a joint with a definite effect. Since the bowl had a flame on it the whole time, I'm guessing this means a flame is hot enough to break down the Psilocin and Psilocybin, but a lit J is not.
I wouldn't do it again, though. We tried it those two times because we just had leftovers from a bag that didn't get eaten for some reason, but not enough to trip orally. The effects only lasted about 30 minutes and felt a bit like my head was going to explode. The only think about it that even reminded me of a mushroom trip was this weird curly kind of look everything got to it, which faded when that feeling in my head did. It was nothing spectacular in the least.
lol oh come on i can't even defend myself lol. also, when asking other people, please include all info, ;) including indigenous use. People in the amazon have done it a long time, look into it before you throw this out there, asking for further information.
And the pseudo-scientific approach to randomly dismissing this form of consumption, is not really funded IMO, and maybe a bit harsh. first off, I'm not a gullable dude who'll swallow everything, I try to be openminded yet rational. In this case, i am aware of the fact that heat kills the active substance in most cases.
When I'm talking about tiny pieces of psylocybin, they're so tiny they can be absorbed right along with asbestos that we inhale every day if you live in the city. This is not naieve at all. The molecular structure allows such small particles to be absorbed.
But I guess i'm your regular whackjob in your opinion  I don't mind. The only freely accessible reference i can give you is the book by Carlos Castaneda. They clarify this method in about four pages, I've just checked. I stand by the arguments. ;)
check erowid on it http://www.erowid.org/plants/mushroo...s_smoked.shtml
