David Letterman and the Culture War

Letterman was VERY friendly to the Bush administration after 9/11. I remember him using the phrase, about Chaney, Bush, and Rumsfeld, "They're the real deal!" A lot of people that felt the same way are now asking themselves what exactly the "deal" really is.

Letterman is a conservative to moderate millionaire that doesn't usually stick his neck out - for ratings, arguments, or anything other than doing his job of entertaining. Even BORE knows that, but insists on claiming that his patriotism is superior. The Dubya of today has not matured much, in many ways has regressed backwards, and BORE is just fighting a losing battle by trying to get back the support for Dubya that is now fading fast - not just with Letterman, but a large segment of the American people that voted for him as well.

I don't think that it's going to go any better for the No-Spine Zone, either.
The more fed-up people get with Dubya, the less they are to believe, or watch, apologists and sympathizers like O'Reilly.

I saw a bit of that video. It was pretty interesting. O'Reilly's views are totally nonsensical but at least he's able to argue them like a respectful human being. I'd say Letterman did pretty good up until the '60% of everything you say is crap' line out of nowhere, that just showed he couldn't keep it together.
Plus watching two mild mannered gents having an eerily polite discussion can be damn trippy when your really stoned.

Among other things about O'Reiily, I'm disgusted with seeing Al Sharpton on his show, and BORE literally kissing his fat ass by politely referring to him as "Reverend", and assuring him that he (BORE) is against the death penalty. Why doesn't he ask his boyfriend Sharpton if mobs that he incites make him an accessory to the lynchings, bloodshead, and riots that have occurred?

In 1987 Sharpton started spreading lies that ruined people's careers by representing Tawana Brawley, who falsely accused several people of raping her. Although he was proven wrong in court, he has never recanted, apologized, or paid the monies that he owes to his slander victims.

1991: A Hasidic Jewish driver in Brooklyn's Crown Heights section accidentally kills Gavin Cato, a 7-year-old black child, and anti-Semitic riots erupt. Sharpton races to pour gasoline on the fire. At Gavin's funeral he rails against the "diamond merchants" -- code for Jews -- with "the blood of innocent babies" on their hands. He mobilizes hundreds of demonstrators to march through the Jewish neighborhood, chanting, "No justice, no peace." 1995: When the United House of Prayer, a large black landlord in Harlem, raises the rent on Freddy's Fashion Mart, Freddy's white Jewish owner is forced to raise the rent on his subtenant, a black-owned music store. A landlord-tenant dispute ensues; Sharpton uses it to incite racial hatred. "We will not stand by," he warns malignantly, "and allow them to move this brother so that some white interloper can expand his business." Sharpton's National Action Network sets up picket lines; customers going into Freddy's are spat on and cursed as "traitors" and "Uncle Toms." Some protesters shout, "Burn down the Jew store!" and simulate striking a match. "We're going to see that this cracker suffers," says Sharpton's colleague Morris Powell. On Dec. 8, one of the protesters bursts into Freddy's, shoots four employees point-blank, then sets the store on fire. Seven employees die in the inferno.

If Sharpton were a white skinhead, he would be a political leper, spurned everywhere but the fringe. But far from being spurned, he is shown much deference. Democrats embrace him. Politicians court him. And journalists report on his comings and goings while politely sidestepping his career as a hatemongering racial hustler.

Any candidate, such as Al Gore, that allows Sharpton to campaign for, appear on TV with, etc., has lost my support. That is one of the reasons I voted for Bush, and now Bush has shown himself to be unworthy of the presidency.

I guess it's back to the Libertarian ticket next time, unless the Democrats or Republicans acquire some integrity. Unfortunately, I don't anticipate anything of the sort happening in the near future.

The jews have faults, like anyone else. There's not enough of them to make much of a difference either way. The christians love israel because it's the birthplace of their alleged savior god, and the oil people are in bed with the sheiks. Is that what you want to hear? Yeah, Israel is our ally for some questionable reasons, but we could be doing worse.

I don't think that the article makes it out like you say at all. We are talking about a situation that Sharpton was complicit in that resulted in the lynching of someone that was innocent of any wrongdoing in the accidental death of that child. His only "crime" was the outfit that he was wearing. The murder of those people in Harlem was another one of Sharpton's masterpieces.

I've never said anything about the "exaggerated" holocaust, either way.
That man, Yankel Rosenbaum, did absolutely nothing. He was murdered by a lynch mob, which was fueled by the words of Sharpton. Rosenbaum was not even an American. This happened where I live, in Brooklyn. The mayor at the time, David "Do Nothing" Dinkins was also responsible for tying the hands of the police during that time. I've met Dinkins and he's a nice guy, but a hack that never should have been mayor of NYC.
All I'm saying is that if the Democrats keep courting people like Sharpton, they'll get what they deserve. I've already expressed my disgust with Bush, whom I voted for.
What is happening in Israel has nothing to do with an orthodox cult in Brooklyn, or, in the case of Yankel Rosenbaum, his home in Australia. I do not think that they (Hassidic Jews) even serve in the armed forces of Israel, but I may be mistaken on that. I can say one thing for certain: they do NOT mug anybody in the streets. They're like the Amish, in dress and in other ways. If you don't like them, fine, but don't think that they are in league with ultra right wing warmongers, because that just isn't their bag. They're more interested in the Talmud, and going to the synagogue - NOT in killing people, either here, or in Israel, or anywhere else.
The Jews that I knew (mostly "Reformed"), while growing up in brooklyn, supported the Civil Rights movement, and backed their opinions up with donations to the NAACP, United Negro College Fund, and many other charities. Almost all of them voted Democrat. Sharpton acts like the Jews are doing harm to the Blacks, simply because they have a higher income - but what he forgets is that the Jews hired African Americans when others wouldn't - and were the biggest supporters of their voting, housing, equal opportunity, and other rights. He's selling the idea that they exploit the African Americans, but that's hogwash. They've consistently been there when other whites weren't, and many jews have gotten disgusted by the anti-jewish rhetorical bashings that they've unfairly received.
Like I said, I'm no fan of Israel, but these domestic-front problems have nothing to do with it. The Arabs may be a little darker than Europeans, but they are NOT African, and will never do for people of African descent what the Jews have.

nicholasstanko has claimed to have had a Jewish boss once. He claims that this boss fired him, and replaced him with somebody that was Jewish. I believe that he said that this boss told him that he didn't work hard enough, or something to that effect.

I tend to think that this boss was giving him the straight dope, as he probably could have just said that they couldn't afford to keep him. If the Jewish boss was racist, then why did he hire nic, who is Black, in the first place?

I once revealed that my wife's family was Jewish (mostly non-religous), so he singles me out as gung-ho for Israel - which is something that is not true, but he has taken it upon himself to presume.

This guy should get a life, because it's obvious that he has no idea what he's talking about and he is too young to remember the civil rights movement - who were at the front lines, where the support came from,etc. Like many young people today, his main "research" is reading bullshit web sites that express opinions based on distortions and lies.

His boss, Jewish or whatever, was probably right - and he should have learned a lesson frrom that experience.

I actually saw that episode on the other night and yeah it was good O'Reilly should of known what he was getting into when he went on the letterman show.And he did not like it did he?(O'Reilly)and he let himself off the stage just before dave ended the interview so good on dave he's a great guy that is just trying to earn a living just like most of you.Great show wish I'd taped it it was great.
