I'm not sure about Santa Claus, but from where I'm from, we call him Sinta Clas (sp?), and has been around in traditions way before coca-cola ever made Santa.

Anyways, whoever made him up, it brings out the joy in children...and, if I had kids, that would mean something to me :) J/k

Yea I believe Coca-Cola is responsible for our modern day image of Santa-Claus, but it has been suggested his roots are actually Shamanistic.
