just break up your weed better, and hold the lighter right in there, so it looks like the fire is getting sucked into the bong. There was a guy on here once who talked about how this kept happening but he just wasnt taking a strong enough pull... make sure to get some good bubbles goin there man.
I prefer my bowl not to cherry, but if you really want to, the above suggestions sound pretty good. I'd just break it up more and light it longer, or try to spread the flame more evenly across the bowl.
